The Direct Segment Anything Model (DirectSAM) excels in class-agnostic contour extraction. In this paper, we explore its use by applying it to optical remote sensing imagery, where semantic contour extraction-such as identifying buildings, road networks, and coastlines-holds significant practical value. Those applications are currently handled via training specialized small models separately on small datasets in each domain. We introduce a foundation model derived from DirectSAM, termed DirectSAM-RS, which not only inherits the strong segmentation capability acquired from natural images, but also benefits from a large-scale dataset we created for remote sensing semantic contour extraction. This dataset comprises over 34k image-text-contour triplets, making it at least 30 times larger than individual dataset. DirectSAM-RS integrates a prompter module: a text encoder and cross-attention layers attached to the DirectSAM architecture, which allows flexible conditioning on target class labels or referring expressions. We evaluate the DirectSAM-RS in both zero-shot and fine-tuning setting, and demonstrate that it achieves state-of-the-art performance across several downstream benchmarks. © 2025 IEEE.

Interpretable CNN-Based Lithographic Hotspot Detection Through Error Marker Learning

As the technology node develops toward its physical limit, lithographic hotspot detection has become increasingly important and ever-challenging in the computer-aided design (CAD) flow. In recent years, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved great success in hotspot detection. However, the interpretability of their hotspot prediction has yet to be considered. Compared with conventional lithography simulation and pattern matching-based methods, the black-box nature of CNNs wavers their practical applications with confidence. In this article, we propose the first interpretable CNN-based hotspot detector capable of providing high-detection accuracy and reliable explanations for hotspot identification. Specifically, we augment the training dataset with expanded error markers obtained and preprocessed from lithography simulation, which are then learned by an encoder-decoder architecture as intermediate features. We additionally introduce coordinate attention in the encoder to facilitate better-feature extraction. By learning these error markers and part of their surrounding metals as root cause hotspot features, our architecture achieves the highest-hotspot accuracy of 99.78% and the lowest-false positive rate of 5.29% compared to all prior work. Moreover, our method demonstrates the best visual and quantitative interpretability results when applying CNN interpretation methods. © 2024 IEEE.

A decision support system (DSS) is a computer-based tool used to improve decision-making capabilities for any organization by analyzing the available data. The heart-kidney (HK) model proposed in this paper, as a DSS, simulates the physiological processes of the heart and kidneys in the human body to support cancer detection. The first part of the HK algorithm is inspired by the functions of the heart, where blood molecules (solutions) are sent to the heart, simulating the processes of oxygenation and the pumping of oxygenated blood to the kidneys as a local search. The solutions generated by the heart are then fed into the kidney-inspired algorithm (KA), which performs filtration, reabsorption, secretion, and excretion. The heart component enhances the KA’s local search capability, guiding the algorithm toward optimal solutions. The HK model is evaluated on eight test functions, with results compared to those of the heart algorithm and KA alone. Additionally, the HK algorithm’s effectiveness as a decision support system is tested on benchmark classification and time series prediction problems, with statistical analysis against existing methods in the literature. Finally, the HK algorithm is applied to cancer detection from microRNA data, demonstrating its potential in optimizing decision-making processes in healthcare. © 2013 IEEE.

Maternal health is among the greatest challenges in the world, especially in rural areas as there lack medical practitioners, they do not have easily accessible publics clinics and transport is difficult. Therefore, high rates of maternal as well as infant morbidity and mortalities are recorded. This research utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) with machine learning algorithms to forecast and address maternal health hazards right at their onset stage. The current research utilizes the concept of AI along with many Machine Learning (ML) methods like the Ensemble Learning Model (ELM), Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), Decision-Tree (DT), XG-Boost (XGB), Cat Boost (CB), and Gradient Boosting (GB), along with Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) algorithm used for dealing with the problem class imbalance within the data set. SMOTE algorithm is utilized for the dataset balancing process. The handling system involves refining data preprocessing with the help of feature engineering and robust data cleaning which makes sure that anomalies do not erode the reliability of the predictive model. The existing methods [1] used RF (90%), DT (87%), XGB (85%), CB (86%), and GB (81%) algorithms and were compared with the accuracies of the proposed models like Logistic Regression (LR), Ensemble Learning Bagging (ELB), Ensemble Learning Stacking (ELS), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU). The existing methods used only imbalance dataset. The accuracies of the proposed models with using SMOTE algorithm (balanced dataset) are LR (61.33%), KNN (81%), ELB (92.33%), ELS (90.66%) CNN (40.67%), RNN (59.67%), LSTM (54%), GRU (56%) respectively. Among these methods, ELB achieved 92.33% of accuracy with using SMOTE algorithm using imbalanced dataset. Whereas the accuracies of the proposed models without using SMOTE algorithm (imbalanced dataset) are LR (66.09%), KNN (68.47%)

Modeling stochastic multi-ship trajectories is vital for maritime safety and interaction efficiency. Recent researches show that diffusion models excel in trajectory prediction, surpassing GANs and VAEs in generation quality, diversity and stability. However, their slow sampling speed remains a major limitation, as producing high-quality trajectories typically requires hundreds of denoising steps. We introduce DDA, a novel method that accelerates multi-ship trajectory generation by distilling the reverse diffusion process, progressively reducing sampling steps by half while minimizing quality loss. We use CVAE-based encoder to map multimodal inputs into state embeddings in the latent space, and use distillation diffusion in the latent space to more quickly and better represent multi-ship trajectories. The diffusion model uses Transformer-based core, and we incorporate SO(2) invariance and equivariance to enhance model representation. Validation on real-world AIS datasets shows that the student model retains high-quality trajectory generation while sampling speed is approximately 30 times faster. © 2025 IEEE.

This research study analyzes six key factors in the education and teaching of IoT embedded direction: training objectives (which direction to teach), curriculum system (what to teach), teaching organization (how to teach), faculty team (who teaches), and teaching evaluation (how well the teaching is) under the current status of embedded teaching on the Internet of Things (IoT) engineering discipline. Guided by the latest National Occupational Technical Skill Standards for IoT engineering professionals and in accordance with the educational philosophy of Chengdu Neusoft University, here we propose a design for teaching system for IoT embedded talent courses, clarified the key elements and formulated new ideas for the current development of talents in this direction to assist improvement and perfection of related curriculum systems, and to promote the establishment and operation of practical and technological activity platforms. Topology entropy: Enhancing graph partitioning for TAD identification and single-cell clustering

Entropy quantifies the limits of information compression and provides a theoretical foundation for exploring complex structures in large-scale graphs. However, effective metrics are needed to capture the intricate structural details in biological graphs. In this paper, we introduce the topology entropy encoding tree to quantify the complexity of biological graphs and show that minimizing the associated entropy is equivalent to optimal graph partitioning. We develop two methods, TEC-O and TEC-U, for partitioning ordered and unordered biological graphs. TEC-O is applied to identify Topologically Associated Domains (TADs) in Hi-C contact maps, while TEC-U is used for cell clustering in single-cell sequencing data. Results from simulated datasets demonstrate that topology entropy is robust to noise and effectively captures structural information, outperforming existing methods. Experiments on Hi-C data from five cell lines and ten single-cell sequencing datasets show that TEC-O and TEC-U achieve the highest accuracy in TAD detection and cell clustering, respectively, providing biologically meaningful insights. © 2025 The Authors

Learning from Multi-Positive and Unlabeled (MPU) data has gradually attracted significant attention from practical applications. Unfortunately, the risk of MPU also suffer from the shift of minimum risk, particularly when the models are very flexible as shown in Fig.1. In this paper, to alleviate the shifting of minimum risk problem, we propose an Example Sieve Approach (ESA) to select examples for training a multi-class classifier. Specifically, we sieve out some examples by utilizing the Certain Loss (CL) value of each example in the training stage and analyze the consistency of the proposed risk estimator. Besides, we show that the estimation error of proposed ESA obtains the optimal parametric convergence rate. Extensive experiments on various real-world datasets show the proposed approach outperforms previous methods. Graffiti detection is essential in historic building protection and urban neighborhood management. Graffiti detection has made significant progress in recent years based on the development of deep learning. However, small-scale graffiti, interference from the background, and the false detection of word parts in graffiti make it a challenging problem. This article proposes a Transformer-based high-precision graffiti detection method, namely DIG. Precisely, it consists of three modules: 1) Spatial query selection (SQS), scale-aware IoU loss (SIL);2) Denoising Task with binary contrastive denoising (BCDN);and 3) IoU-guided box denoising (IBD) modules. To detect small-scale graffiti, this paper proposes SIL to help the loss function to perceive small-scale graffiti and large-scale graffiti fairly. To reduce the false detection of word parts, this article presents the SQS module, which integrates spatial information into the query selection process of the Encoder to filter out falsely detected bounding boxes within the graffiti. To reduce the interference from the background, this article introduces a denoising task with BCDN and IBD modules, improving the model’s ability to distinguish graffiti from the background and accurately select appropriate bounding boxes. A large number of experimental results on the STORM dataset show that our method achieves state-of-the-art results with an AP50 of 87.9%. Moreover, DIG achieved competitive results on the FineFM dataset for mask detection. This indicates that DIG can also be conveniently transferred to detect other scenarios. © 2013 IEEE.

The rapid advancements in time-series forecasting have led to the emergence of datasets with increasingly diverse characteristics. Researchers typically focus on designing robust algorithms to handle these datasets. However, model performance can vary across different datasets. Existing studies commonly use Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) to evaluate model performance. These metrics often need to fully account for the impact of dataset quality on forecast accuracy and reliability, leading to insufficient explanations of model forecasts and even dataset dependence. Furthermore, the lack of dataset evaluation makes it difficult to determine whether forecast results are influenced by data characteristics or model architecture, significantly hindering model improvement. To address this problem, this study proposes a new dataset evaluation paradigm-Multiscale Temporal Entropy Evaluation Paradigm. This paradigm aims to tackle the problem of data feature ambiguity affecting model forecast interpretability. By evaluating nine time-series datasets from domains such as weather, economics, transportation, and networks and comparing these evaluations with the forecast results from six different models, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of this method in explaining the relationship between dataset features and model performance. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.
