The complexity of the entire process of supply chain management (SCM) is quite cumbersome and traditional way of handling it is devoid of proper authentication and security and very often suffers from human errors in dealing with flaws in quality control process of SCM. While it may have started with shipment tracking, the outcome of using IoT on supply chains has spread to every link in the chain. For instance, manufacturers are employing Internet-enabled sensors in production to find product faults, resulting in higher-quality production runs. Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is a security mechanism that exploits the unique, unrepeatable physical characteristics of hardware components to generate distinct cryptographic keys or identifiers, typically for a semiconductor device like an Internet of Things (IoT) device. The unique identification of IoT devices along the supply chain is implemented by using PUFs as tamper-resistant IDs. Blockchain, the distributed, immutable ledger, on the other hand is the disruptive technology that provides higher security as compared to traditional centralized systems. The integration of PUF and blockchain proves to be quite interesting while handling the above issues of authentication. A smart contract on the blockchain is a software code that executes spontaneously as and when the conditions of the contract or agreement are satisfied. Hence after authentication process the results are fed to blockchain smart contract for the final validation. This paper presents a novel permissioned blockchain smart contract-based lightweight authentication scheme for SCM using PUF of IoT known as SPUFChain. Informal and formal security analysis (using AVISPA and BAN logic) of the proposed framework show its potential to combat several attack scenarios like man-in-the middle, non-repudiation, impersonation, replay attacks and many other security features as compared to other related schemes. Background: In bearing failure diagnosis, accurate fault detection is essential for ensuring the safe operation of machinery. However, acquiring enough labeled fault data for training is expensive and challenging. Objective: This paper aims to address key challenges in few-shot fault diagnosis by proposing a novel framework incorporating an Adaptive Detail Convolution and a dual-branch architecture. Methods: The proposed framework consists of three main components: an Adaptive Detail Convolution module for enhanced feature extraction, a Global KAN-Transformer learning branch to model long-range dependencies between global features, and an adaptive-regularized Mahalanobis distance module to measure the similarity of local features between support and query samples. Results: Experimental results on the CWRU dataset show that the proposed framework significantly improves classification performance in terms of accuracy, robustness, and efficiency. Conclusion: The proposed solution offers an effective approach for few-shot bearing fault diagnosis and outperforms existing methods in both accuracy and computational efficiency. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Evaluating Logical Expressions by Membrane Systems

Boolean and relational operations, which are defined for solving mathematically logical problems, are always required in computing models. Membrane computing is a kind of distributed parallel computing model. In this paper, we design different membranes for implementing primary Boolean and relational operations respectively. And based on these membranes, a membrane system can be constructed by a present algorithm for evaluating a logical expression. Some examples are given to illustrate how to perform the Boolean, relational operations and evaluate the logical expression correctly in these membrane systems.

Smart vehicle applications play a crucial role in intelligent transportation systems, enabling sensor-equipped vehicles to establish dynamic networks for efficient collection, sharing, and aggregation. This significantly enhances road security and efficiency by transmitting crucial information to traffic authorities. However, partial research on certificateless aggregation signcryption (CLAS) scheme reveals an intriguing phenomenon where each proposed scheme consistently exhibits numerous security vulnerabilities, particularly susceptible to public key replacement attacks. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a blockchain-assisted certificateless aggregation sign-cryption scheme (BACLAS), leveraging blockchain technology to securely store users' public key on a distributed ledger and prevent public key replacement attacks effectively. Furthermore, it is a provably secure communication scheme for real-world Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication while addressing practical security concerns. The BACLAS scheme ensures security in terms of existential unforgeability against adaptive chosen message attacks (EUF-CMA) and indistinguishability against adaptive chosen ciphertext attacks (IND-CCA2) based on the hardness assumption of the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem and computational Diffie-Hellman problem in the random oracle model. The proposed scheme effectively reduces computational costs and time consumption, resulting in a significant reduction of the computation burden ranging from 50.02% to 88.28% compared to other competitive schemes. Moreover, it successfully addresses the key-escrow problem, thereby achieving enhanced security properties. © 2014 IEEE.

Arithmetic operations and expression evaluations are fundamental in computing models. This paper firstly designs arithmetic membranes without priority rules for basic arithmetic operations, and then proposes an algorithm to construct expression P systems based on several of such membranes after designing synchronous and asynchronous transmission strategies among the membranes. For any arithmetic expression, an expression P system can be built to evaluate it effectively. Finally, we discuss different parallelism strategies through which different expression P systems can be built for an arithmetic expression.

Road accidents are a primary global concern for public safety, with India having a very high death toll. This study presents an intelligent machine learning approach to predict the severity of road accidents, contributing to the development of more effective and preventive measures. We utilized a comprehensive dataset of road accidents in India, employing advanced machine learning algorithms, including Histogram-based Gradient Boosting (HGB), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). Our methodology involved extensive data pre-processing, feature engineering, and model optimization. The Random Forest algorithm demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 94.7% and an F1-score of 0.947. This research provides a robust predictive model and information on the key factors influencing the accident's severity. The novelty of our approach lies in the comprehensive feature engineering tailored to the Indian context and the application of ensemble learning techniques to capture complex, nonlinear relationships in accident data. The findings of this study have significant implications for policymakers, urban planners, and law enforcement agencies in their efforts to improve road safety. © 2025 IEEE.

Changing a person’s posture and low resolution are the key challenges for person re-identification(ReID)in various deep learning *** this paper,we introduce an innovative architecture using a dual attention network that includes an attentionmodule and a joint measurement module of spatial-temporal *** proposed approach can be classified into two main ***,the spatial attention feature map is formed by aggregating features in the spatial ***,the same operation is carried out on the channel dimension to formchannel attention ***,the receptive field size is adjusted adaptively tomitigate the changing person posture ***,we use a joint measurement method for the spatial-temporal information to fully harness the data,and it can also naturally integrate the information into the visual features of supervised ReID and hence overcome the low resolution *** experimental results indicate that our proposed algorithm markedly improves the accuracy in addressing changing human postures and low-resolution issues compared with contemporary leading *** proposed method shows superior outcomes on widely recognized benchmarks,which are the Market-1501,MSMT17,and DukeMTMC-reID ***,the proposed algorithmattains a Rank-1 accuracy of 97.4% and 94.9% mAP(mean Average Precision)on the Market-1501 ***,it achieves a 94.2% Rank-1 accuracy and 91.8% mAP on the DukeMTMC-reID dataset.

The equipment digital twins (EDTs) for discrete manufacturing should be calibrated quickly to avoid irreversible physical damage to the equipment caused by biased control commands. Therefore, an online credibility assessment method for EDTs is urgently needed. However, existing assessment approaches consume too much time, and thus could not reveal dynamic faults in time. In this paper, the dynamic relationship between online evolution and actual applications of EDTs is investigated. Then, two steps are proposed to accelerate the assessment process significantly. One involves pre-constructing a performance-deviation-agent (PDA), and the other involves dynamically fitting the application-time-window (ATW) probability distribution. The methodology is applicable to discrete manufacturing processes. The dynamic credibility of EDT evolution process can be updated after every iteration of the model evolution. Sorting manufacturing equipment was used as a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method. The time consumption was reduced by 90% compared with traditional assessment methods in the case. © 2025 IEEE.

In recent years, machine learning research has continuously made breakthroughs, which has led to the maturity and implementation of a large number of intelligent systems. However, the current machine learning paradigm overly relies on complete prior knowledge, and its application scenarios are limited to static closed specialized systems. The emergence of new categories is one of the main challenges in the research of dynamic open environments, to which the conventional closed-world machine learning methods can not handle it well. In order to break the excessive dependence of existing machine learning on complete category information, the research on open set recognition problem has become a new trend, which extends the traditional closed-world classification methods to open-world applications. Open set recognition problem requires the classification models classify the learned known classes correctly, and effectively identify unknown class samples that appear in the testing phase simultaneously, to avoid the large number of misclassifications. This article systematically surveys the research on open set recognition in recent years, focusing on deep learning based open set recognition methods. It introduces the classic models by sorting out them into six categories based on the main ideas they employ, and horizontally compares various research achievements, and give the comparison details of their performances. Edge caching is a promising technologies, which enhances content delivery and reduces service latency by caching potentially interested content and services on edge nodes near users. Due to constraints such as limited edge server capacities and unstable communications in a highly dynamic MEC environment, caching and content delivery are prone to failures and inconsistencies. Consequently, redundant caching mechanisms are in high need as counter measures in this paper, we proposes a novel redundant service caching and task offloading Decision (FT-STD) method. Specifically, we utilize the primary backup (PB) approach for offloading fault tolerance and employ a learning-based algorithm for yielding redundant service caching schedules in MEC. Simulation results demonstrate thatclearly outperforms its peers across multiple performance metrics. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
