Content-based jewellery item retrieval using the local region-based histograms

Jewellery item retrieval is regularly used to find what people want on online marketplaces using a sample query reference image. Considering recent developments, due to the simultaneous nature of various jewelry items, various jewelry goods' occlusion in images or visual streams, as well as shape deformation, content-based jewellery item retrieval (CBJIR) still has limitations whenever it pertains to visual searching in the actual world. This article proposed a content-based jewellery item retrieval method using the local regionbased histograms in HSV color space. Using five local regions, our novel jewellery classification module extracts the specific feature vectors from the query image. The jewellery classification module is also applied to the jewellery database to extract feature vectors. Finally, the similarity score is matched between the database and query features vectors to retrieve the jewellery items from the database. The proposed method performance is tested on publicly available jewellery item retrieval datasets, i.e. ringFIR and Fashion Product Images dataset. As sports video collections continue to expand at a rapid pace, there is a need for advanced classification methods that can accurately and efficiently categorize and manage the massive amount of content available. These methods must be able to dynamically adapt to changes in the collection, ensuring that the videos are properly organized and easily searchable for users. Traditional classification methods are not able to keep up with the rapid growth and complexity of sports video collections, leading to incomplete classification and impacting search and retrieval processes. This paper addresses this challenge using the UCF sports dataset and proposes a Visual Geometry Group-19 (VGG-19) based CNN classifier and Equiangular Basis Vector (EBV) representation introduced for efficient classification and category representation. Furthermore, a 3D Convolutional Neural Network (3D-CNN) architecture extracts both spatial and temporal features from videos for accurate action classification. The Adam optimizer in the optimization algorithm is employed to optimize the learning process. This paper shows that the proposed 3D-CNN model outperforms existing methods a Hybrid Convolutional Neural Network with a Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network (HCNN-BiRNN) model, Deformable Convolution Networks (DCN), 2D-Convolutional Neural Network (2D-CNN), Convolutional Neural Network - Long Short-Term Frequency (CNN-LSTM) in terms of accuracy (99.45%), precision (98.00%), sensitivity (96.98%), and F1-score (97.05%).

Drones have become a vital part of the technology-driven world we live in today. From using it for delivering our day-to-day items to high grade military purposes, drones have spread their demands to various sectors of the economy. However, a little exploration has been done when it comes to talking about their security. Security generally comprises two aspects: authentication and authorization. While authentication is more to do with confirming the users with who they say they are, authorization is when the user’s permissions to access a resource is examined and a decision to approve or deny the access is taken by the system. This paper discusses authorization in detail using reinforcement learning and federated learning. In today's educational system, maintaining students' interest is of the utmost importance. Researchers have been motivated to investigate approaches that can automatically measure engagement as a result of this. Using facial expressions to determine whether or not a student is interested in a certain topic and to give individualized assistance is the purpose of this research project. Using the well-known VGG16 model, This study provide a framework for evaluating degrees of engagement based on facial signals. This framework is built on face detection which used the FER2013 dataset, produced encouraging findings with a considerable accuracy of 96.16%. The objective of this study is to provide educators and online platforms with a dependable instrument that can assess and address student involvement. This will be accomplished by using deep learning algorithms that are particularly intended to do facial expression interpretation. The findings of this study provide a contribution to the growing subject of using technology to enhance learning settings by highlighting the benefits of automated systems in terms of increasing student engagement and academic accomplishment.

This study is meant to research the evolution of intrusion detection and network monitoring within computer, cloud-based systems, IIoT, and mobile environments. The source has outlined the novel technologies in IDS, from “Fast Learning Network” to hybrid classifiers aiming at protecting cloud computing. The findings highlight innovation IDS technologies that provide flexible and peculiar solutions to ward off potential cyber threats. In addition, it presented with the use of Nagios, NConf, the state of the art in network traffic monitoring, and deep learning as tools for advanced management and network protection. Besides, the research also reviewed concepts of Big Data Analytics and Federated Learning in bettering direct integration and anomaly detection in IIoT. A good comparison of the two would show that recent technological advancements are much needed for network efficiency and its cybersecurity. Based on the findings, the scope of networked system security develops dynamically amid current challenges.

This paper presents a robust and dependable monitoring system designed for space missions where reliability is critical. Theoretically, we use the Markov chain model to evaluate the availability of the system, considering multiple instances of backup devices. The results indicate a substantial improvement in system availability with the inclusion of backup devices. The findings highlight the significance of redundancy in enhancing system dependability while considering practical constraints. Based on this insight, we design an algorithm to deploy backup devices in the system that would improve the system's availability without putting strain on the resources (e.g., channel congestion). It uses backup devices at the sensor node and gateway levels. The algorithm involves backup devices that actively monitor and take over in case of failures, enhancing the system's ability to recover lost or faulty data. We test the system in three failure scenarios: hard failures, sensor failures, and gateway failures. We perform the experiments on our hardware prototypes. Experimental results demonstrate that using backup devices significantly improves the Packet Reception Ratio (PRR) in failure scenarios. We observed an improvement of 30 - 34% in packet reception for different failure scenarios.

Category-Prompt Refined Feature Learning for Long-Tailed Multi-Label Image Classification

Real-world data consistently exhibits a long-tailed distribution, often spanning multiple categories. This complexity underscores the challenge of content comprehension, particularly in scenarios requiring Long-Tailed Multi-Label image Classification (LTMLC). In such contexts, imbalanced data distribution and multi-object recognition pose significant hurdles. To address this issue, we propose a novel and effective approach for LTMLC, termed Category-Prompt Refined Feature Learning (CPRFL), utilizing semantic correlations between different categories and decoupling category-specific visual representations for each category. Specifically, CPRFL initializes category-prompts from the pretrained CLIP’s embeddings and decouples category-specific visual representations through interaction with visual features, thereby facilitating the establishment of semantic correlations between the head and tail classes. To mitigate the visual-semantic domain bias, we design a progressive Dual-Path Back-Propagation mechanism to refine the prompts by progressively incorporating context-related visual information into prompts. Simultaneously, the refinement process facilitates the progressive purification of the category-specific visual representations under the guidance of the refined prompts. Furthermore, taking into account the negative-positive sample imbalance, we adopt the Asymmetric Loss as our optimization objective to suppress negative samples across all classes and potentially enhance the head-to-tail recognition performance. We validate the effectiveness of our method on two LTMLC benchmarks and extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our work over baselines. —Graph representation learning has shown superior performance in numerous real-world applications, such as finance and social networks. Nevertheless, most existing works might make discriminatory predictions due to insufficient attention to fairness in their decision-making processes. This oversight has prompted a growing focus on fair representation learning. Among recent explorations on fair representation learning, prior works based on adversarial learning usually induce unstable or counterproductive performance. To achieve fairness in a stable manner, we present the design and implementation of GRAFair, a new framework based on a variational graph auto-encoder. The crux of GRAFair is the Conditional Fairness Bottleneck, where the objective is to capture the trade-off between the utility of representations and sensitive information of interest. By applying variational approximation, we can make the optimization objective tractable. Particularly, GRAFair can be trained to produce informative representations of tasks while containing little sensitive information without adversarial training. Experiments on various real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method in terms of fairness, utility, robustness, and stability. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Image forgery detection focuses more on tampering regions than image content of semantic segmentation, it is revealed that wealthier features need to be learned. Moreover, insufficient semantic information causes low efficiency of forgery detection. To address these issues, we propose a hybrid features and semantic reinforcement network (HFSRNet) for image forgery detection, which is an encoding and decoding based network. Specifically, long-short term memory with resampling features has been applied to capture traces from the image patches for finding manipulating artifacts. Consolidated features extracted from rotating residual units are further leveraged to amplify the discrepancy between un-tampered and tampered regions. We then hybridize features from them through a concatenation to further incorporate spatial co-occurrence of these two modalities. In addition, for achieving the semantic consistency between two same level features associated by across layers, semantic reinforcement is implemented on the decoding stage. HFSRNet is an end-to-end architecture that handles multiple types of image forgery including copy-move, splicing, removal. Experiments on three standard image manipulation datasets (NIST16, COVERAGE and CASIA) demonstrate that HFSRNet obtains state-of-the-art performance compared to existing models and baselines. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
