Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) is a very popular tracking algorithm which provides a way of processing non-linear and non-Gaussian models. In this paper we propose a modified UKF to extend its applications to multi-sensor scenes, improving thus the global result. The combination of several independent sensors increases the precision and robustness of our tracking system, making possible to solve difficult situations, such as occlusions or serious noise. We approach this modification to multi-camera tracking applications, like video surveillance or sport performance improvement.

This paper presents a novel system that uses two synchronous optimization processes to recover 3D structure from rectified stereo image pairs. The synchronization of the processes are done by energy terms that inform the optimization processes about the recovered positions of each other. This information is used to direct the optimizations towards a better direction. The system is initialization insensitive and it is very robust against local minima. We performed experiments on real and synthetic images with ground truth that showed the effectiveness and the robustness of our system. We also compared our system to other systems for further validation.

In this paper, we propose a fast method for separating reflection components using a single color image. We first propose a specular-free two-band image that is a specularity-invariant color image representation. Reflection components separation is achieved by comparing local ratios at each pixel and making those ratios equal in an iterative framework. This paper presents a method for the automatic creation of 2D mosaics of the sea floor, using video sequences acquired at different altitudes above the sea floor. The benefit of using different altitude sequences comes from the fact that higher altitude sequences can be used to guide the motion estimation of the lower ones, thus increasing the robustness and efficiency of the mosaicing process. When compared to the case of single sequence mosaic creation, we show that by combining geometric information from different sequences, we are able to successfully estimate the registration topology of much lower altitude sequences. This results in higher resolution mapping of the sea floor. Illustrative results are presented using sequences of the same coral reef patch, captured with a single video camera. The sequences present some of the common difficulties of underwater 2D mosaicing, namely non-flat, moving environment and changing lighting conditions. The importance of this work is emphasized by fact that the presented methods require inexpensive image acquisition and processing equipment, thus potentially benefiting a very large group of marine scientists.
