One of the greatest developments in computer science is undoubtedly quantum computing. It has demonstrated to give various benefits over the classical algorithms, particularly in the significant reduction of processing time, due to the parallelism and entanglement properties. One of the most crucial quantum computing algorithms is quantum phase estimation (QPE). It is called the eigenvalue finding module for unitary operators. It has helped to solve the order finding and the factoring problem, and to calculate the eigenvalues of unitary matrices and quantum sampling methods. In this paper, we study recent improved versions for the QPE procedure, their advantages and experimentation. We also propose a new approach for QPE based algorithms for machine learning (ML). These algorithms are the Harrow-Hassidim-Lloyd (HHL) algorithm for solving linear systems, the quantum singular value thresholding (QSVT) algorithm for matrix completion in recommender systems, and the quantum principal components analysis (QPCA) for data visualization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Pulsed electromagnetic (EM) field signal transfer from a general EM source distribution to a transmission line (TL) is analyzed with the aid of Lorentz's reciprocity theorem. In this fashion, the transient voltage induced by the impulsive EM source is expressed through the EM fields as radiated by the TL. These transmitted EM fields are expressed in closed form using an analytical procedure that resembles the Cagniard-DeHoop (CdH) technique. The validity of the proposed reciprocity-based methodology is verified with the aid of an alternative analytical solution describing the EM field signal transfer excited by an impulsive vertical electric dipole (VED). Illustrative numerical examples are presented. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Community smells are sub-optimal developer community structures that hinder *** studies performed smell prediction and provided refactoring guidelines from a top-down aspect to help community ***,refactoring smells also requires bottom-up effort from every ***,supportive measures and guidelines for them are not available at a fine-grained *** recent work revealed developers'personalities and working states could influence community smells'emergence and variation,we build prediction models with experience,sentiment,and development process features of developers considering three smells including Organizational Silo,Lone Wolf,and Bottleneck,as well as two related classes including smelly developer and smelly *** predict the five classes in the individual granularity,and we also generate forecasts for the number of smelly developers in the community *** proposed models achieve F-measures ranging from 0.73 to 0.92 in individual-wide within-project,time-wise,and cross-project prediction,and mean R2 performance of 0.68 in community-wide Smelly Developer *** also exploit SHAP(SHapley Additive exPlanations)to assess feature importance to explain our *** conclusion,we suggest developers with heavy workload should foster more frequent communication in a straightforward and polite way to build healthier communities,and we recommend community shepherds to use the forecasting model for refactoring planning.

This paper presents our Facial Action Units (AUs) detection submission to the fifth Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild Competition (ABAW). Our approach consists of three main modules: (i) a pre-trained facial representation encoder which produce a strong facial representation from each input face image in the input sequence;(ii) an AU-specific feature generator that specifically learns a set of AU features from each facial representation;and (iii) a spatio-temporal graph learning module that constructs a spatio-temporal graph representation. This graph representation describes AUs contained in all frames and predicts the occurrence of each AU based on both the modeled spatial information within the corresponding face and the learned temporal dynamics among frames. The experimental results show that our approach outperformed the baseline and the spatio-temporal graph representation learning allows our model to generate the best results among all ablated systems. Our model ranks at the 4th place in the AU recognition track at the 5th ABAW Competition. Our code is publicly available at https://***/wzh125/ABAW-5. © 2023 IEEE.

A method for achieving reduction of the passive elements values in the case of power-law filters, is introduced in this work. This is achieved by utilizing a curve-fitting based technique, which performs the approximation of the frequency behavior of the required frequency dependent impedances. The employment of the Current Feedback Operational Amplifier as the active element offers the capability of cascading the resulting structure, without requiring extra buffer stages. The provided filter and control system design examples, with their behavior evaluated using the OrCAD PSpice simulator, verify the validity of the presented concept. © 2024 IEEE.

Designing a skilled soccer team for RoboCup: exploring skill-set-primitives through reinforcement learning

The RoboCup 3D soccer simulation league serves as a competitive platform for showcasing innovation in autonomous humanoid robot agents through simulated soccer matches. Our team, FC Portugal, developed a new codebase from scratch in Python after RoboCup 2021. The team’s performance relies on a set of skills centered around novel unifying primitives and a custom, symmetry-extended version of the proximal policy optimization algorithm. Our methods have been thoroughly tested in official RoboCup matches, where FC Portugal has won the last two main competitions, in 2022 and 2023. This paper presents our training framework, as well as a timeline of skills developed using our skill-set-primitives, which considerably improve the sample efficiency and stability of skills, and motivate seamless transitions. We start with a significantly fast Sprint-Kick developed in 2021 and progress to the most recent skill set, including a multi-purpose omnidirectional walk, a dribble with unprecedented ball control, a solid kick, and a push skill. The push addresses low-level collision scenarios and high-level strategies to increase ball possession. We address the resource-intensive nature of this task through an innovative multi-agent learning approach. Finally, we release the team’s codebase to the RoboCup community, providing other teams with a robust and modern foundation upon which they can build new features. © The Author(s) 2025.

TWIRLD: Transformer Generated Terahertz Waveform for Improved Radio Link Distance

terahertz (THz) band communication is envisioned as one of the leading technologies to meet the exponentially growing data rate requirements of emerging and future wireless communication networks. Utilizing the contiguous bandwidth available at THz frequencies requires a transceiver design tailored to tackle issues existing at these frequencies such as strong propagation and absorption loss, small scale fading (e.g. scattering, reflection, refraction), hardware non-linearity, etc. In prior works, multicarrier waveforms (e.g., Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)) are shown to be efficient in tackling some of these issues. However, OFDM introduces a drawback in the form of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which, compounded with strong propagation and absorption loss and high noise power due to large bandwidth at THz and sub-THz frequencies, severely limits link distances and, in turn, capacity, preventing efficient bandwidth usage. In this work, we propose TWIRLD - a deep learning (DL)-based joint optimization method, modeled and implemented as components of end-to-end transceiver chain. TWIRLD performs a symbol remapping at baseband of OFDM signals, which increases average transmit power while also optimizing the bit error rate (BER). We provide theoretical analysis, statistical equivalence of TWIRLD to the ideal receiver, and comprehensive complexity and footprint estimates. We validate TWIRLD in simulation showing link distance improvement of up to 91% and compare the results with legacy and state of the art methods and their enhanced versions. Finally, TWIRLD is validated with over the air (OTA) communication using a state-of-the-art testbed at 140 GHz up to a bandwidth of 5 GHz where we observe improvement of up to 79% in link distance accommodating for practical channel and other transmission losses. © 2023 CCBY.

Social media provides a rapid, simple, and accessible platform for people to communicate and share news through the Internet. However, the information published on this platform is not always trustworthy. As a result, malicious actors often use social media to disseminate fake news or mislead news readers, such as with personal or political attacks that could spark protests or riots. In this paper, we propose a learning technique for detecting fake news sources (i.e., fake users) on the Twitter platform. Three main types of features - tweet content, published time, and social graph - have been defined and extracted from Twitter to create a deep neural network (DNN) as a predictive model. We conducted experiments on PolitiFact, a standard FakeNewsNet dataset. The results show that the proposed approach outperforms traditional baselines with 98.7% accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Early detection of lung cancer, liver cancer (HCC), and pancreatitis is crucial for effective treatment. This study assessed the use of laser guidance CT scans for diagnosis and staging. 26 patients of CT scan which were collected from BVH and civil hospital Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Visible light with a 405 nm wavelength is used. Results showed staging of lung cancer (2 at stage 1, 2 at stage 2, 3 at stage 4) and HCC (stages 1 to 4a). Pancreatic diseases detected included acute pancreatitis (44%), chronic pancreatitis (22%), gallstones (22%), and pancreatic tumors (11%). Alkaline phosphatase, SGOT, and blood urea levels were notably elevated in all three cancers compared to controls. CT scans show promise in identifying cancer stages and diagnosing pancreatitis, aiding in tailored treatment. Statistical analysis shows that alkaline phosphatase emerges as a potential biomarker for these conditions. ©2025 Old City Publishing, Inc.
