Improving the Interpretability through Maximizing Mutual Information for EEG Emotion Recognition

Trustworthy Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) for EEG emotion recognition should identify emotions accurately and elucidate corresponding rationales. Current GNNs have achieved notable performance by dynamically modeling emotional connections between EEG channels. However, these GNNs lack interpretability due to the absence of explicit rationale behind their predictions. This paper conducts a comprehensive identification of important EEG channels to enhance the interpretability of EEG emotion recognition from the perspective of mutual information. Specifically, an Adjacency-Explainable Graph Neural Network (AEG) for ante-hoc interpretability is proposed to capture genuine EEG emotional connections, which gives a theoretical guarantee to remove spurious connections. Moreover, a Channel-wise Adaptive Class Activation Mapping Explainer (CACA) for post-hoc interpretability is developed to locate the EEG channels that contribute most to predictions. Experimental results on three datasets, i.e., SEED, SEED-IV, and DREAMER, prove that imbuing training processes with enhanced interpretability ensures significant performance improvements in emotion recognition. Quantitative comparisons of post-hoc interpretability also demonstrate the superiority of CACA. Furthermore, this paper illustrates two potential applications of the proposed methodologies, showing their broader utility and significance. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Currently, the 4G network service has caused massive digital growth in high use. Video calling has become the go-to Internet application for many people, downloading even huge files in minutes. Everyone is looking for and buying only 4G Subscriber Identity Module (SIM)-capable mobiles. In this case, the expectation of 5G has increased in line with 2G, 3G, and 4G, where the G stands for generation, and it does not indicate Internet or Internet speed. 5G includes next-generation features that are more advanced than those available in 4G network services. The main objective of 5G is uninterrupted telecommunication service in hybrid energy storage system. This paper proposes an intelligent networking model to obtain the maximum energy efficiency and Artificial Intelligence (AI) automation of 5G networks. There is currently an issue where the signal cuts out when crossing an area with one tower and traveling to an area with another tower. The problem of “call drop”, where the call is disconnected while talking, is not present in 5G. The proposed Intelligent Computational Model (ICM) model obtained 96.31% network speed management, 90.63% battery capacity management, 92.27% network device management, 93.57% energy efficiency, and 88.41% AI automation.

This paper presents a study of the segmentation of medical *** paper provides a solid introduction to image enhancement along with image segmentation *** the first step,the morphological operations are employed to ensure image detail protection and *** objective of using morphological operations is to remove the defects in the texture of the ***,the Fuzzy C-Means(FCM)clustering algorithm is used to modify membership function based only on the spatial neighbors instead of the distance between pixels within local spatial neighbors and cluster *** proposed technique is very simple to implement and significantly fast since it is not necessary to compute the distance between the neighboring pixels and the cluster *** is also efficient when dealing with noisy images because of its ability to efficiently improve the membership partition *** results are performed on different medical image ***(Us),X-ray(Mammogram),Computed Tomography(CT),Positron Emission Tomography(PET),and Magnetic Resonance(MR)images are the main medical image modalities used in this *** obtained results illustrate that the proposed technique can achieve good results with a short time and efficient image *** results on different image modalities show that the proposed technique can achieve segmentation accuracies of 98.83%,99.71%,99.83%,99.85%,and 99.74%for Us,Mammogram,CT,PET,and MRI images,respectively.

This study employs nine distinct deep learning models to categorize 12,444 blood cell images and automatically extract from them relevant information with an accuracy that is beyond that achievable with traditional *** work is intended to improve current methods for the assessment of human health through measurement of the distribution of four types of blood cells,namely,eosinophils,neutrophils,monocytes,and lymphocytes,known for their relationship with human body damage,inflammatory regions,and organ illnesses,in particular,and with the health of the immune system and other hazards,such as cardiovascular disease or infections,more in *** results of the experiments show that the deep learning models can automatically extract features from the blood cell images and properly classify them with an accuracy of 98%,97%,and 89%,respectively,with regard to the training,verification,and testing of the corresponding datasets.

With the development of deep sequencing, recent studies indicate that a miRNA precursor can generate multiple miRNA isoforms (isomiRs). The family prediction of canonical miRNAs and isomiRs could provide a basis for miRNA functional research. In this study, we propose a novel method for family identification of canonical miRNA and isomiRs based on incremental learning. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing data based on miRNA sequences and their family annotation. Moreover, sequence embedding and RNN are used for capturing essential features and inherent dependencies within a sequence. Finally, incremental learning is applied to accommodate the continuous influx of miRNA sequencing data, enabling RNN to stay relevant and effective over time. Comparative experiments and ablation studies illustrate the effectiveness of our model, which can help to comprehensively understand miRNA's function. © 2024 IEEE.

Microwave antennas are essential elements for various applications,such as telecommunication,radar,sensing,and wireless power *** antennas are conventionally manufactured on rigid substrates using opaque materials,such as metal strips,metallic tapes,or epoxy pastes;thus,prohibiting their use in flexible and wearable devices,and simultaneously limiting their integration into existing optoelectronic ***,we demonstrate that mechanically flexible and optically transparent microwave antennas with high operational efficiencies can be readily fabricated using composite nanolayers deposited on common plastic *** composite nanolayer structure consists of an ultra-thin copper-doped silver film sandwiched between two dielectric films of tantalum pentoxide and aluminum *** material and thickness of each constituent layer are judiciously selected such that the whole structure exhibits an experimentally measured averaged visible transmittance as high as 98.94%compared to a bare plastic substrate,and simultaneously,a sheet resistance as low as 12.5Ω/*** representative types of microwave antennas are implemented:an omnidirectional dipole antenna,unidirectional Yagi-Uda antenna,low-profile patch antenna,and Fabry-Pérot cavity *** devices exhibit great mechanical flexibility with bending angle over 70°,high gain of up to 13.6 dBi,and large radiation efficiency of up to 84.5%.The proposed nano-engineered composites can be easily prepared over large areas on various types of substrates and simultaneously overcome the limitations of poor mechanical flexibility,low electrical conductivity,and reduced optical transparency usually faced by other constituent materials for flexible transparent microwave *** demonstrated flexible microwave antennas have various applications ranging from fifth-generation and vehicular communication systems to bio-signal monitors and wearable electronics.

This study utilizes the game rules of a falling-puzzle game, developed as a consumer-oriented digital game, in programming education for young people. When digital games are used in programming education, they are often designed specifically for that purpose. In this study, we focused on the game rules of the consumer falling-object puzzle game, 'Puyo Puyo.' Learning impact was investigated on 23 Japanese elementary, junior high, and senior high school students. The results show that the concepts of branching and arraying in programming were taught effectively;thus, consumer digital game rules can be used as a case study for programming education. © 2023 IEEE.

With the emergence of the Transformer architecture, the accuracy of deep learning within the domain of facial emotion recognition has seen further enhancement. However, Transformer comes with increased training complexity and time due to the large parameter count. Additionally, the global receptive field in Transformer's attention leads to unnecessary computations for features with limited spatial extent in image sentiment analysis. In this paper we presents a MSRFormer model, which combines Hybrid-scale self-attention and local fast convolution to address existing issues. The Hybrid-scale self-attention enables precise focus on salient regions of the image, where key features are located. A Local Fast Convolution module was integrated into the MLP head of the Transformer model, enhancing training speed and reducing parameters while maintaining feature learning. we conducted experiments on FERPlus, RAF-DB, and KDEF datasets and confirming its strong performance and broad applicability in facial expression recognition. © 2025 IEEE.

Advancement in wireless technology, artificial intelligence and robotics introduces different problems on coverage or visibility in different architectural shapes. Usually, architectural shapes are represented by two dimensional polygons. Such two dimensional polygons are partitioned using various partitioning techniques to solve those coverage or visibility problems. One such partitioning technique uses reflex vertices of orthogonal polygons. We establish some relations among different components of an orthogonal polygon after it is being partitioned by reflex vertices. There are many variants of each visibility or coverage problems in wireless technology. One such variant is minimum length sliding k transmitter problem. Such transmitters can travel back and forth along the boundary of an orthogonal polygon and can modeled as an omnidirectional wireless modem, transmit signal orthogonally and can penetrate through k walls (k is a fixed integer and k > 0) to reach the client. Let s be an orthogonal line segment where the k transmitter travels back and forth. A point p is covered by the guard if there exist a point q ĝ s such that is a line segment normal to s and at most k intersections with the boundary walls of the polygon. The objective is to minimize the sum of lengths of the sliding k transmitters to cover the entire polygon. In this paper we consider a modification in the above problem where instead of omnidirectional k transmitters we consider k transmitters which can transmit and receive signal orthogonally inside the polygon. The objective of the problem remains same and we termed this problem as modified minimum length sliding k transmitter problem. We develop an algorithm for this modified problem which finds the minimum length cover in O(n2) time. © 2023 ACM.
