This study investigates the fabrication of innovative UV-blocking sheets that effectively transmit visible light while simultaneously obstructing harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, utilizing Cerium Oxide (CeO2) and Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles as UV-blocking agents. Three distinct fabrication methods were explored: The Powder Method, where nanoparticles were incorporated directly into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS); the Ball milling Mixture method, which involved mixing nanoparticles through ball milling; and the Solvent-Based Mixture method, where nanoparticles were dissolved, mixed, and dried; before incorporation into PDMS. Samples were produced using a 3D printing technique, which is Direct Ink Writing (DIW) and characterized for their optical properties via UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results indicated CeO2 demonstrated superior UV-blocking capabilities (a maximum blockage of ~99%) compared to ZnO, while maintaining high transmittance for visible light (a maximum of ~90%). Notably, the solvent-based method exhibited better results than the ball milling method; however, the powder method had the best results. Therefore, this investigation offers a promising solution for solar panel protection that aligns with Saudi Arabia's vision 2030 energy objectives. The relentless exposure of devices, particularly solar cells, to harmful UV radiation poses a formidable challenge and leads to annual degradation rates of between -0.8% and -4.9%, besides other factors. These findings underscore the critical importance of developing effective UV-blocking solutions.

This paper introduces a novel approach integrating Differential Evolution (DE) with multi-objective optimization techniques for enhancing Type-1 Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy rule-based systems to attain both fair predictive performance and enhanced interpretability within the context of explainable artificial intelligence. The developed approach encodes the whole knowledge base into one chromosome and endeavors to concurrently optimize the prediction accuracy, the number of rules, and the selection of relevant input features. The methodology was tested on Earth observation data for the estimation of soil health parameters via infrared spectroscopy, and more concretely i) on the 2015 LUCAS topsoil dataset to predict three key soil properties (namely, soil organic carbon, clay content, and pH) from laboratory spectra, and ii) on a set of PRISMA hyperspectral images to predict soil organic carbon in a region of northern Greece. Compared to the classical Random Forest (RF) algorithm, our proposed learning algorithm attains a fair balance between accuracy and interpretability, and is statistically equivalent to RF in terms of accuracy. The findings underscore the potential of the proposed methodology in refining TSK models and its applicability in Earth observation-driven predictions, paving the way for both enhanced modeling accuracy and sparse feature selection.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) and LiDAR data joint classification is a challenging task. Existing multi-source remote sensing data classification methods often rely on human-designed frameworks for feature extraction, which heavily depend on expert knowledge. To address these limitations, we propose a novel Dynamic Cross-Modal Feature Interaction Network (DCMNet), the first framework leveraging a dynamic routing mechanism for HSI and LiDAR classification. Specifically, our approach introduces three feature interaction blocks: Bilinear Spatial Attention Block (BSAB), Bilinear Channel Attention Block (BCAB), and Integration Convolutional Block (ICB). These blocks are designed to effectively enhance spatial, spectral, and discriminative feature interactions. A multi-layer routing space with routing gates is designed to determine optimal computational paths, enabling data-dependent feature fusion. Additionally, bilinear attention mechanisms are employed to enhance feature interactions in spatial and channel representations. Extensive experiments on three public HSI and LiDAR datasets demonstrate the superiority of DCMNet over state-of-the-art methods. Current dual-band radars consist of 2 different radar antennas with the same back-end electronics and software. There is great interest in AFRL to develop dual-band radars by using the same antenna, operating at two different frequencies, to achieve the desired efficiency as with traditional systems but without the SWaPC constraints. This article discusses radar applications of a dual-band antenna design made possible by integrating metamaterial and metasurface design elements. The metamaterial component of the design investigates the phase change properties of VO2 as a mechanism for switching the equivalent impedance of the proposed antenna. The meta-surface component of the design investigates the size, arrangement and structure of the antenna's unit cells that allow for both dual-band behavior and beam-steering capabilities. This article discusses the application of the proposed dual-band antenna for detection of and tracking of radar targets. © 2023 IEEE.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the top causes of global mortality. It does not give any symptoms at the early stage, and most patients are diagnosed during periods of CHD exacerbation. If CHD reaches a hard condition, it will require advanced and long-term treatments. Moreover, the early detection of CHD is not easy;doctors make a decision based on many kinds of clinical tests. In recent years, machine learning-based approaches are widely used in the healthcare domain to predict disease. In this study, we have proposed a deep neural network (DNN) model with an attention layer that gives importance weight to the input of the output layer for the CHD risk prediction model. The proposed method has been evaluated by predicting CHD risk in the Korean population and compared with typical machine learning algorithms. As a result, the proposed attention-based DNN improved the performance of DNN and outperformed regular machine learning classifiers. The performance measurements include accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score reached 82.7818%, 86.6499%, 77.2704%, 81.6631%, and 82.5802%, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021.

The golden standard of nocturnal respiratory function assessment is polysomnography (PSG) especially for diagnosis of sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (SAHS). However, the use of PSG sensors usually obstructs the patients' breathing, causing discomfort. One of the most important signals in PSG to assess respiratory function is airflow, especially for sleep apnea detection. Radar-based contactless detection technique provides a non-contact monitor way to overcome such limitation. Aiming at developing an alternative of airflow, a 24-GHz biomedical radar sensor combined with airflow reconstruction algorithm is developed to provide accurate continuous measurement of respiratory waveform during sleep. Simultaneously with PSG, the radar data of SAS patients were recorded to validate the monitoring feasibility of the sleep apnea-hypopnea events, which consists of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), central sleep apnea (CSA) and hypopnea. The overnight experimental results show that all the apnea and hypopnea events can be accurately detected, which makes the at-home monitoring possible in the future.

In transiting from one civilization to another, technology has played a vital and positive role. In the 21st century, one of the digital developments that is paving ways for human life improvement is machine-assisted technology using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Artificial Intelligence has successfully enhanced man's capacity in solving complex problems and processes. However, as developed nations continue to reap from the adoption of AI in various fields of human endeavors, the continent of Africa has remained behind, especially in AI-based skills and research. Various governments in developing nations have encouraged the adoption of AI, especially in institutions of learning. However, theoretical adoption without practical experience has remained an ineffective way of bridging the digital divide. In this paper we present the outcome of a practical approach to bridging the AI divide among students and researchers in Africa through funding support from the Google TensorFlow College Outreach Award. A 3-day hybrid bootcamp was organized (11th to 13th December, 2023) using the Google funding in order to equip postgraduate students and researchers with AI and collaborative research skills. A pre-survey method was employed to ascertain the knowledge level of the bootcamp participants. From the pre-surveyed feedback, training sessions on various AI domains were presented, and participant equipped with practical AI skills using a deployed AI-based cloud programming platform running on the private Federated Genomic Cloud (FEDGEN) infrastructure at Covenant University. A post-survey feedback was used to ascertain the effectiveness of this approach. A comparative analysis of the pre-survey and post-survey reveals a 70% improvement of AI skills among participants. This shows that having continuous training session for students and researchers is an effective method in closing the AI skills gap between developed and developing nations. © 2024 IEEE.

The vast majority of mmWave arrays utilize planar topologies due to fabrication and assembly constraints. However, planar architectures bring the antenna element too close to the ground plane, limiting the achievable bandwidth (BW). In this paper, we introduce a vertically integrated UWB array that operates from microwave to mmWave frequencies. The novel antenna array operates from 2 to 40 GHz, i.e 20:1 bandwidth. The enabling novelty is the combination of PCB fabrication technologies with 3D-printing technology. Specifically, unlike previous designs, all components of the array are printed on the same plane and the vertical dipole boards are assembled using a 3D-printed structure. The array employs the concept of tightly coupled dipoles to achieve Ultra-Wideband (UWB) operation. Infinite array simulations showed a VSWR © 2020 IEEE.
