In this paper, we consider the problem of joint transceiver design for millimeter wave (mmWave)/Terahertz (THz) multi-user MIMO integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. Such a problem is formulated into a nonconvex optimization problem, with the objective of maximizing a weighted sum of communication users’ rates and the passive radar’s signal-to-clutter-and-noise-ratio (SCNR). By exploring a low-dimensional subspace property of the optimal precoder, a low-complexity block-coordinate-descent (BCD)-based algorithm is proposed. Our analysis reveals that the hybrid analog/digital beamforming structure can attain the same performance as that of a fully digital precoder, provided that the number of radio frequency (RF) chains is no less than the number of resolvable signal paths. Also, through expressing the precoder as a sum of a communication-precoder and a sensing-precoder, we develop an analytical solution to the joint transceiver design problem by generalizing the idea of block-diagonalization (BD) to the ISAC system. Simulation results show that with a proper tradeoff parameter, the proposed methods can achieve a decent compromise between communication and sensing, where the performance of each communication/sensing task experiences only a mild performance loss as compared with the performance attained by optimizing exclusively for a single task. Differential algebraic equations (DAE) of power systems, classically obtained by aggregating all component equations and network equations, are a standard input of transient stability simulation software. To add a parametric approach to the provided transient stability simulation, the linear modal analysis is a commonly adopted approach because it provides insights about system dynamics, such as eigenvalues and eigenvectors, that can be used for control design. When the power system is more heavily loaded, the linear modal analysis becomes less accurate in terms of capturing system dynamic behaviors when subjected to large disturbances. Normal form analysis, based on a higher-order Taylor expansion of the system model, has been proved to capture the major nonlinear effects occurring in the system. Unfortunately, the normal form method is currently only applicable to ordinary differential equations (ODE) and imposes a recast of the DAE system onto an ODE system, which is feasible only under restrictive assumptions and is usually time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a novel method in order to directly apply the normal form theory to power system DAE without the need to recast DAE into an ODE form. A single-machine-infinite-bus (SMIB) system is adopted to show the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method.

HfO2- and ZrO2-based ferroelectric thin films have emerged as promising candidates for the gate oxides of next generation electronic devices. Recent work has experimentally demonstrated that a tetragonal/orthorhombic (t/o-) phase mixture with partially in-plane polarization can lead to negative capacitance (NC) stabilization. However, there is a discrepancy between experiments and the theoretical understanding of domain formation and domain wall motion in these multi-phase, polycrystalline materials. Furthermore, the effect of anisotropic domain wall coupling on NC has not been studied so far. Here we apply 3D phase field simulations of HfO2- and ZrO2-based mixed-phase ultra-thin films on silicon to understand the necessary and beneficial conditions for NC stabilization. We find that smaller ferroelectric grains and a larger angle of the polar axis with respect to the out-of-plane direction enhances the NC effect. Furthermore, we show that theoretically predicted negative domain wall coupling even along only one axis prevents NC stabilization. Therefore, we conclude that topological domain walls play a critical role in experimentally observed NC phenomena in HfO2- and ZrO2-based ferroelectrics. © 2024, CC BY.

The task of detecting fraud in credit card transactions is crucial to ensure the security and stability of a financial system, as well as to enforce customer confidence in digital payment systems. Historically, credit card companies have used rule-based approaches to detect fraudulent transactions, but these have proven inadequate due to the complexity of fraud strategies and have been replaced by much more powerful solutions based on machine learning or deep learning algorithms. Despite significant progress, the current approaches to fraud detection suffer from a number of limitations: for example, it is unclear whether some transaction features are more effective than others in discriminating fraudulent transactions, and they often neglect possible correlations among transactions, even though they could reveal illicit behaviour. In this paper, we propose a novel credit card fraud detection (CCFD) method based on a transaction behaviour-based hierarchical gated network. First, we introduce a feature-oriented extraction module capable of identifying key features from original transactions, and such analysis is effective in revealing the behavioural characteristics of fraudsters. Second, we design a transaction-oriented extraction module capable of capturing the correlation between users' historical and current transactional behaviour. Such information is crucial for revealing users' sequential behaviour patterns. Our approach, called transactional-behaviour-based hierarchical gated network model (TbHGN), extracts two types of new transactional features, which are then combined in a feature interaction module to learn the final transactional representations used for CCFD. We have conducted extensive experiments on a real-world credit card transaction dataset with an increase in average F1 between 1.42% and 6.53% and an improvement in average AUC between 0.63% and 2.78% over the state of the art. © 2025 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. The development of soil moisture retrieval algorithms for the upcoming NASA/ISRO SAR mission motivates investigations into soil surface scattering effects and their influence on soil moisture retrievals. To better understand the conditions that impact retrieval performance, an investigation is performed into the second-order solution small slope approximation (SSA2) for rough surface backscattering. Scattering amplitudes are calculated for varying soil moisture and surface roughness conditions and compared to the first-order solution. The results show the ability of the second-order solution to model cross-pol scattering and help pinpoint physical conditions that may influence soil moisture retrievals. Overall, the results suggest that the first-order SSA solution should be applicable under the physical conditions where NISAR soil moisture retrievals are expected to be performed.

Controllable strong interactions between a nanocavity and a single emitter is important to manipulating optical emission in a nanophotonic system but challenging to *** a three-dimensional DNA origami,named as DNA rack(DR)is proposed and demonstrated to deterministically and precisely assemble single emitters within ultra-small plasmonic nanocavities formed by closely coupled gold nanorods(AuNRs).Uniquely,the DR is in a saddle shape,with two tubular grooves that geometrically allow a snug fit and linearly align two AuNRs with a bending angle <10°.It also includes a spacer at the saddle point to maintain the gap between AuNRs as small as 2-3 nm,forming a nanocavity estimated to be 20 nm^(3) and an experimentally measured O factor of 7.3.A DNA docking strand is designed at the spacer to position a single fluorescent emitter at nanometer accuracy within the *** Cy5 as a model emitter,a -30-fold fluorescence enhancement and a significantly reduced emission lifetime(from 1.6 ns to 670 ps)were experimentally verified,confirming significant emitter-cavity *** DR-templated assembly method is capable of fitting AuNRs of variable length-to-width aspect ratios to form anisotropic nanocavities and deterministically incorporate different single emitters,thus enabling flexible design of both cavity resonance and emission wavelengths to tailor light-matter interactions at nanometer scale.

Temperature is a common physical quantity with great significance, especially under harsh conditions, such as high voltage, and strong electric/magnetic fields. Here, we demonstrate the development of an all-fiber-optic temperature sensor based on a fiber-end microstructure doped with quantum dots(QDs). The microstructure was fabricated on a fiber tip by two-photon polymerization technology. The results show that the fluorescence intensity of the QDs microstructure reduced with the increase of temperature while the peak position of photoluminescence exhibits a linear change within the temperature range of 26-70 ℃. The developed sensor exhibits a high-temperature sensitivity of 135 pm/℃. The methods developed in our work could have enormous potential for the development of fiber-end temperature sensors.

With the rapid development of the Internet of Things, multi-access edge computing (MEC) has emerged as a key technique and intelligent edge resource allocation has become one of the important research issues in MEC. In this paper, we utilize advantages of matching game to integrate users’ needs and the position of edge computing nodes in IoT networks. The proposed GS-based two-sided matching approach simulates the competition and negotiation relationship between different user sets in IoT edge nodes, and provides feasible options based on the preference between different entities. Simulations show that it not only solves the problem of edge resource allocation in a semi-distributed manner, but also effectively improves SP’s revenue. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Hands-on skills training is a constant requirement in a multitude of practical work settings and virtual reality (VR) is often found to be a valuable training opportunity to safely prepare students for their future work environments. One of the main benefits of utilizing VR-based training is providing high grades of presence and involvement. Although the user experiences of students are a key factor that impacts the use of a VR simulation, it becomes more challenging to decide whether single-or multi-user experiences should be planned and developed. This paper presents the results from a between-subjects case study comparing the user experiences of single-and multi-user VR training for forklift driving. Findings highlight the importance of considering various aspects of VR technology to design VR training environments for high user experiences, including the impact of age, group dynamics, and freedom of movement in the environment. The benefits and challenges of single-and multi-user VR training for high experiences and implications for utilizing serious games in VR-based training are discussed. © 2023 IEEE.
