Microgrids help facilitate the integration of renewable energy in distribution-level grids and increase the resilience of the electric grid to extreme weather, especially in rural areas. Compared to traditional microgrids, a networked microgrid leverages multiple grid-forming sources to form a potential meshed grid and is more flexible in operation. This paper demonstrates the simulation modeling of an actual networked microgrid located in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. The model contains representations of power inverters that connect the battery energy storage systems and photovoltaic generation systems to the networked microgrid and is capable of simulating fast grid transients as well as long-term operation of the networked microgrid. The modeling technique for power inverters allows the time-efficient simulation of the microgrid with a minimal penalty on model accuracy.

This article presents a 3D point cloud map-merging framework for egocentric heterogeneous multi-robot exploration, based on overlap detection and alignment, that is independent of a manual initial guess or prior knowledge of the robots' poses. The novel proposed solution utilizes state-of-the-art place recognition learned descriptors, that through the framework's main pipeline, offer a fast and robust region overlap estimation, hence eliminating the need for the time-consuming global feature extraction and feature matching process that is typically used in 3D map integration. The region overlap estimation provides a homogeneous rigid transform that is applied as an initial condition in the point cloud registration algorithm Fast-GICP, which provides the final and refined alignment. The efficacy of the proposed framework is experimentally evaluated based on multiple field multi-robot exploration missions in underground environments, where both ground and aerial robots are deployed, with different sensor configurations.

The final optics in a laser-driven inertial fusion energy (IFE) plant must withstand intense radiation from the target during continuous operation. Manufacturing optics that are resilient to these harsh conditions is a significant challenge. To tackle this problem, we can create optics in gases. Interfering ultraviolet lasers are used to induce density modulations in an ozone-oxygen mixture, allowing it to act as a volume diffraction grating. These transient optics are intrinsically debris-resistant and feature significantly higher damage thresholds than conventional optics, making them suitable for the extreme environment near inertial confinement fusion (ICF) targets. In this study, we created an ozone grating using the 4th harmonic of an Nd:YAG laser. We demonstrated the efficient diffraction of a probe beam by the structured gas and investigated several key properties of the system. Our experimental findings match a theoretical model for gas gratings and suggest optimal parameters for their effective use. © 2025 SPIE.

Source-Free Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (SFUDA) has recently become a focus in the medical image domain adaptation, as it only utilizes the source model and does not require annotated target data. However, current SFUDA approaches cannot tackle the complex segmentation task across different MRI sequences, such as the vestibular schwannoma segmentation. To address this problem, we proposed Reliable Source Approximation (RSA), which can generate source-like and structure-preserved images from the target domain for updating model parameters and adapting domain shifts. Specifically, RSA deploys a conditional diffusion model to generate multiple source-like images under the guidance of varying edges of one target image. An uncertainty estimation module is then introduced to predict and refine reliable pseudo labels of generated images, and the prediction consistency is developed to select the most reliable generations. Subsequently, all reliable generated images and their pseudo labels are utilized to update the model. Our RSA is validated on vestibular schwannoma segmentation across multi-modality MRI. The experimental results demonstrate that RSA consistently improves domain adaptation performance over other state-of-the-art SFUDA methods. The Cybertwin-based cloud native network (CCNN) with a cloud-edge-end architecture is to provide personalized user services, which includes both wireless access networks and cloud networks. However, the limited availability of resources and intense user competition present significant challenges. While prior studies have contributed to this issue, they overlook the feasibility of using resources as the trading object in a user-centric approach, particularly in wireless networks. To address this gap, this letter proposes a Cybertwin-based Personalized Transmission Service Trading Mechanism (CPTSTM), employing a one-to-many concurrent bilateral negotiation model for dynamic multi-provider trading. An optimization problem is formulated to minimize user costs by modeling the negotiation as a sequential decision-making process, accounting for individual rationality and system uncertainties. Given restricted and hybrid action spaces, we introduce a Constrained Parameterized Deep Q-learning Network (CPDQN)-based negotiation strategy integrating offer evaluation, acceptance, and bidding strategies. Simulation results confirm the feasibility of the proposed mechanism and demonstrate that the CPDQN-based algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of trade success rate (nearly 100%) and the number of negotiation rounds (reduced by 75%) while maintaining comparable user utility across various scenarios. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper investigates the performance of network non-orthogonal multiple access (N-NOMA) in a downlink coordinated multi-point (CoMP) system. In the considered N-NOMA scheme, multiple base stations (BSs) cooperatively serve a CoMP user, meanwhile, each BS serves additional NOMA users by occupying the same resource block allocated to the CoMP user. The locations of the BSs and users are modeled by stochastic geometric models and the interference from the whole network is considered. Through rigorous derivations, the outage probabilities achieved by the CoMP and NOMA users are obtained, respectively. Numerical results are provided to verify the accuracy of the analytical results and also demonstrate the superior performance of N-NOMA compared to orthogonal multiple access (OMA) based CoMP scheme. Audio-visual target speaker extraction (AV-TSE) aims to extract the specific person’s speech from the audio mixture given auxiliary visual cues. Previous methods usually search for the target voice through speech-lip synchronization. However, this strategy mainly focuses on the existence of target speech, while ignoring the variations of the noise characteristics, i.e., interference speaker and the background noise. That may result in extracting noisy signals from the incorrect sound source in challenging acoustic situations. To this end, we propose a novel selective auditory attention mechanism, which can suppress interference speakers and non-speech signals to avoid incorrect speaker extraction. By estimating and utilizing the undesired noisy signal through this mechanism, we design an AV-TSE framework named Subtraction-and-ExtrAction network (SEANet) to suppress the noisy signals. We conduct abundant experiments by re-implementing three popular AV-TSE methods as the baselines and involving nine metrics for evaluation. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in terahertz (THz) networks for delay-sensitive services is regarded as a key enabler for future 6G networks, with ISAC helping to aid beam alignment and improve communication reliability in THz networks. Nevertheless, in ISAC systems, there exists resource and performance tradeoffs amongst sensing, communication and computation. For instance, while better sensing accuracy adds information to aid communication beam alignment, it reduces the temporal resources available for communication. Therefore, in this paper we present a joint sensing, communication and computation model, with a non-uniform frame structure allowing the sensing and communication time to be flexibly adjusted. Based on our model, we formulate an average communication outage probability minimization problem, which optimizes the time and carrier frequency allocation schemes, given constrained resources. We then derive in closed-form the available communication outage probability subject to a given delay threshold, decoupling the computation sub-problem from the original problem. Based on this result, we reformulate the original problem into a joint resource allocation problem between sensing and communication, and solve it by applying the Hungarian algorithm. Numerical results show that our strategy outperforms existing baselines in the average communication outage probability performance.

Maintaining system frequency at a rated value is a fundamental requirement to ensure the stability and security of power grids. However, the advanced frequency regulation process is more cyber-dependent, and raises a cyber-security issue for the power system. Traditional methods cannot avoid the adverse impacts of cyber attacks, which may lead to frequency deviations and, in severe cases, even blackouts. To address this issue, we propose an attack-resilient control algorithm for the smart grid's frequency regulation to defend the system frequency against cyber attacks. The stability of the system with the proposed controller can be guaranteed, which is strictly proved by Lyapunov theorem. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed resilient controller is validated by case studies. The results show that in comparison with the existing methods, the proposed controller can make the system frequency achieve faster recovery with a minor frequency deviation. Specifically, using the proposed method, the maximum frequency deviation can be reduced from 0.17 Hz to approximately 0 Hz even under a cyber attack, which means that the adverse effects of a cyber attack can be almost eliminated. Therefore, the proposed controller can well counter potential cyber attacks, which helps improve the stability of the system frequency.
