The unipolar photocurrent in conventional photodiodes(PDs)based on photovoltaic effect limits the output modes and potential versatility of these devices in *** photodiodes with photocurrent switching are emerging as a promising solution for obtaining photoelectric devices with unique and attractive functions,such as optical logic ***,we design an all-solid-state chip-scale ultraviolet(UV)PD based on a hybrid GaN heterojunction with engineered bipolar polarized electric *** introducing the polarization-induced photocurrent switching effect,the photocurrent direction can be switched in response to the wavelength of incident light at 0 V *** particular,the photocurrent direction exhibits negative when the irradiation wavelength is less than 315 nm,but positive when the wavelength is longer than 315 *** device shows a responsivity of up to−6.7 mA/W at 300 nm and 5.3 mA/W at 340 nm,*** particular,three special logic gates in response to different dual UV light inputs are demonstrated via a single bipolar PD,which may be beneficial for future multifunctional UV photonic integrated devices and systems.

We present the first comprehensive video polyp segmentation(VPS)study in the deep learning *** the years,developments in VPS are not moving forward with ease due to the lack of a large-scale dataset with fine-grained segmentation *** address this issue,we first introduce a high-quality frame-by-frame annotated VPS dataset,named SUN-SEG,which contains 158690colonoscopy video frames from the well-known *** provide additional annotation covering diverse types,i.e.,attribute,object mask,boundary,scribble,and ***,we design a simple but efficient baseline,named PNS+,which consists of a global encoder,a local encoder,and normalized self-attention(NS)*** global and local encoders receive an anchor frame and multiple successive frames to extract long-term and short-term spatial-temporal representations,which are then progressively refined by two NS *** experiments show that PNS+achieves the best performance and real-time inference speed(170 fps),making it a promising solution for the VPS ***,we extensively evaluate 13 representative polyp/object segmentation models on our SUN-SEG dataset and provide attribute-based ***,we discuss several open issues and suggest possible research directions for the VPS *** project and dataset are publicly available at https://***/GewelsJI/VPS.

With the success of multimodal pre-training models in the video-language field and various downstream tasks, previous multimodal models used 3DCNN networks as video feature extractors, which have limitations in interacting and fusing with text features. This paper proposes a multimodal pre-training model that utilizes a Video-Swin-Transformer-based network to encode both video and text data, to achieve better performance in video understanding. The model consists of four modules: video encoder, text encoder, interact encoder, and caption decoder to accomplish the task of ocean scene video captioning. A dataset of ocean scene videos, including various content types such as sea surfaces and shores, is also constructed. The training process is divided into two stages: pre-training and fine-tuning. Pre-training is performed on the Howto100m dataset to allow the model to learn video captions in natural scenes and complete video-language matching tasks. The fine-tuning stage is then performed on the ocean1000 dataset to better understand the events and content in ocean scene videos and generate captions that conform to ocean scene video descriptions. The model achieves satisfying results on both the public dataset YouCook2 and the proprietary dataset Ocean1000, demonstrating its ability in video-text information fusion and interaction. © 2023 IEEE.

Centroid-based clustering validity: method and application to quantification of optimal cluster-data space

Evaluation of clustering validity to set up an optimal cluster-data space (CDS) is a vital task in many fields related to data mining. Almost existing clustering validity indexes (CVIs) lack stability due to being too sensitive to noise, especially impulse noise. Here, we (1) propose a new CVI named DzI (Dzung Index) or fRisk2 using analysis of fuzzy-set-based accumulated risk degree (FARD), and (2) present a new algorithm named fRisk2-bA for determining the optimal number of data clusters. It is a method of evaluation of the centroid-based fuzzy clustering validity. In essence, the fRisk2 still focuses on enhancing the data compression in each cluster and expanding the separation between cluster centroids. However, these features are exploited indirectly through FARD. As a result, the proposed method not only can avoid the difficulties of the traditional ones relying on the compression and separation properties directly but also can distill better local and global attributes in the data distribution to estimate the CDS more fully. Along with the proved theory basis, surveys, including the ones based on noisy datasets from measurements, showed the compared advantages of fRisk2 as follows. (1) The accuracy, stability, and convergence of the fRisk2 are outstanding. Various training-based spatial filtering methods have been proposed to classify steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). However, many overlook the temporal instability of SSVEPs, leading to decreased classification performance. Therefore, we propose an SSVEP decoding method that calculates template signals and spatial filters using the subject's impulse responses and periodic impulses, incorporating the temporally local correlation coefficient in the SSVEP decoding process. Then, we employ a combined correlation coefficient for SSVEP classification. The proposed method addresses the temporal instability of SSVEPs, with template signals that exhibit strong individual characteristics. Utilizing a public benchmark dataset, we achieved a classification accuracy of 87.43% and an ITR of 256.1 bits/min at 1s time window, demonstrating the performance of this method. Compared to other classical spatial filtering methods, the proposed method demonstrates superior classification performance, which can enhance the practical usability of SSVEP-BCI systems. © VDE VERLAG GMBH.

Surface flashover is a devastating electronic avalanche along the gas–solid interface when a high electric field is applied,which is a potential issue that threatens the safe operations of advanced power electronic,electrical,and spacecraft ***,the underlying physical mechanisms for surface flashover development are still under investigation owing to the complex charge transport processes through the gas phase,solid phase,and gas–solid *** this study,the history of surface flashover theory in the last 50 years is introduced,and several key questions are reviewed from the perspective of the competing mechanisms of charge transport:the role of each phase in a surface flashover,the origin of surface charging,and effects of traps in solid on surface ***,some suggestions involve charge transport processes in each phase,and their correlations are put forward,and a predictable‘charge transport competitive flashover model’is proposed by clarifying the competing mechanisms of charge transport processes through multiple *** study summarises the history and hot topics of physical mechanisms of surface flashover proposed based on classic and recent progress and offers promising routes for developing a more precise surface flashover theory and improving surface flashover performances.

Chirality,defined by Lord Kelvin,refers to the geometric symmetry property of an object that cannot be superposed onto its mirror image using rotations and *** material’s chirality can be probed with light as the optical activity:optical rotary dispersion(ORD)and circular dichroism(CD).It is still challenging to yield extremely sensitive ORD and CD for very weak chirality and measure both *** ringdown polarimetry has been reported to improve ORD detection sensitivity with the absence of equally important CD signature,at the price of high cavity finesse near 400,frequency-locking sophistication,and large magnetic ***,we report a unique recipe to demonstrate the simultaneous measurement of ORD and the CD by separately observing the chiral eigenmode spectra from a bowtie optical cavity with a finesse about 30,without resorting to frequency locking or magnetic *** obtain a sensitivity of2.7×10^(−3)deg/√Hz for ORD,8.1×10^(−6)/√Hz for CD,and a spectral resolution of 0.04 pm within a millisecond-scale *** present a cost-effective yet ultrasensitive account for chiral chromatography,the conformational dynamics and chiroptical analysis of biological samples which particularly exhibit weak and narrow spectral signals.

Artificial intelligence(AI) systems surpass certain human intelligence abilities in a statistical sense as a whole, but are not yet the true realization of these human intelligence abilities and behaviors. There are differences, and even contradictions, between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. With the goal of achieving general AI, this study contains a review of the role of cognitive science in inspiring the development of the three mainstream academic branches of AI based on the three-layer framework proposed by David Marr, and the limitations of the current development of AI are explored and analyzed. The differences and inconsistencies between the cognition mechanisms of the human brain and the computation mechanisms of AI systems are analyzed. They are found to be the cause of the differences and contradictions between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. Additionally, eight important research directions and their scientific issues that need to focus on braininspired AI research are proposed: highly imitated bionic information processing, a large-scale deep learning model that balances structure and function, multi-granularity joint problem solving bidirectionally driven by data and knowledge, AI models that simulate specific brain structures, a collaborative processing mechanism with the physical separation of perceptual processing and interpretive analysis, embodied intelligence that integrates the brain cognitive mechanism and AI computation mechanisms,intelligence simulation from individual intelligence to group intelligence(social intelligence), and AI-assisted brain cognitive intelligence.

Basic Tai Chi exercises serve as the foundation and core of Tai Chi practice. A deep understanding of the movement principles and essential characteristics is crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of training. However, practitioners often struggle to grasp the essentials, resulting in minimal progress or even injuries that may lead them to abandon the practice. To achieve a digital interpretation of the movement transitions and force application principles in basic Tai Chi exercises, we introduced surface electromyography (sEMG) detection into basic Tai Chi in this study. Eight Tai Chi experts were invited to construct an expert subject dataset. Then we extracted and analyzed the integral whole electric value and contribution rates of relevant muscles in basic Kai He Gong (KHG) exercise, as well as the dynamic changes on both sides of the body. An improved Teager-Kaiser Energy (TKE) algorithm was used to accurately identify the muscle force sequencing in expert-level and trainee-level basic movement. The results revealed that the cooperated relationship the left and right body sides and the crucial role of the erector spinae in the waist connecting the upper and lower limbs in the KHG exercises, demonstrating the Tai Chi principle of "controlling from the waist". In all, we explored the sEMG activity patterns in basic Tai Chi exercises in this study, enabling a digital interpretation of movement transitions and muscle force application principles. The results could provide references for the training and teaching of basic Tai Chi exercises. © 2024 SPIE.
