In many remote areas, tunnels, and underground spaces, network bandwidth is extremely limited. However, with the development of high-resolution cameras, the size of image data has significantly increased, making it challenging to frequently transmit large-scale images for detection and monitoring purposes. To address this issue, this paper proposes an image compression and reconstruction method based on lightweight neural networks, utilizing a dual-module deep learning architecture comprising a Compressed Convolutional Neural Network (CCNN) and a Reconstructed Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN). The lightweight design facilitates easy deployment on edge devices. The CCNN module compresses the original image for fast network transmission, and upon reception, the RCNN module reconstructs the image. This approach significantly reduces the transmission payload and enhances speed under limited bandwidth conditions. Furthermore, the developed method outperforms the classic JPEG algorithm across four representative metrics as evaluated on a widely-used public dataset. To further optimize the CCNN for edge deployment, a model distillation technique is employed, reducing the model size by approximately 70% with negligible performance impact. In summary, the proposed deep neural network model offers high performance and a low memory footprint for image compression and reconstruction, making it particularly suitable for resourcelimited edge devices and bandwidth-constrained applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Streaming temporal data contains time stamps and values, challenging to quantify relationships of time stamps and corresponding values. Moreover, the characteristics and relationships of streaming temporal data are not invariable. Thus, it is impossible to analyse all data by a trained model at the beginning of data streams. Practically, the trained model to analyse streaming temporal data should change according to the increasing volume of data. Association rule mining, on the other hand, can find potential relationships from given data. This paper proposes an association rule mining method for streaming temporal data to discover potential relationships from streaming temporal data. Our experiments verify our proposed method. A public data set is applied to compare the performance of the proposed method and its counterpart. A small data set is also applied for two case studies to further illustrate our proposed method mine association rules with streaming temporal data with time stamps and corresponding values. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Urine sediment detection is an essential aid in assessing kidney health. Traditional machine learning approaches treat urine sediment particle detection as an image classification task, segmenting particles for detection based on information such as edges or thresholds. However, the segmentation of sediment particles is complex due to the low contrast and weak edge characteristics of urine sediment images. In this paper, we consider urine sediment particle detection as a object detection task and propose the YOLOv5s-CBL, a detector dedicated to particle detection. Specifically, to mitigate the impact of background noise on detection accuracy, we inherit CBAM on the YOLOv5s model to help the network filter useless noise information and find regions of interest to extract target features. Then, we expand the original three-scale feature layer to improve the sensitivity of the model to larger-scale target sediment particles. Finally, we use the BiFPN structure instead of the original PANet combined with the FPN structure, which can more effectively fuse multiple different scales of information to improve the detection performance of the model. We compared state-of-the-art methods on two real-world datasets, and the experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of YOLOv5s-CBL. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs)provide intelligent navigation and efficient route management,resulting in time savings and cost reductions in the transportation ***,the exchange of beacons and messages over public channels among vehicles and roadside units renders these networks vulnerable to numerous attacks and privacy *** address these challenges,several privacy and security preservation protocols based on blockchain and public key cryptography have been proposed ***,most of these schemes are limited by a long execution time and massive communication costs,which make them inefficient for on-board units(OBUs).Additionally,some of them are still susceptible to many *** such,this study presents a novel protocol based on the fusion of elliptic curve cryptography(ECC)and bilinear pairing(BP)*** formal security analysis is accomplished using the Burrows–Abadi–Needham(BAN)logic,demonstrating that our scheme is verifiably *** proposed scheme’s informal security assessment also shows that it provides salient security features,such as non-repudiation,anonymity,and ***,the scheme is shown to be resilient against attacks,such as packet replays,forgeries,message falsifications,and *** the performance perspective,this protocol yields a 37.88%reduction in communication overheads and a 44.44%improvement in the supported security ***,the proposed scheme can be deployed in VANETs to provide robust security at low overheads.

Contact-free manipulation technology represents a novel approach that offers a fresh possibility for human-machine interaction, aiming to meet the evolving demands of this interface. In this paper, we introduce a contact-free planar display control technique based on imaging. In our research, we employ cameras as sensors and integrate infrared lasers with image processing techniques to detect and localize input signals. By establishing a coordinate mapping relationship between the operational plane and the display plane, we achieved contact-free control over the planar display. Our paper introduces two methods for establishing this coordinate mapping. The first involves constructing mapping functions between the rectified and transformed camera imagery and the display plane, thereby creating a point-to-point correspondence. The second method entails dividing both the camera imagery and the display plane into segments, establishing a one-to-one relationship between regions. We analyze the strengths and limitations of these two approaches. While the former boasts higher theoretical precision, it is more susceptible to equipment factors and exhibits slower response speeds. Conversely, the latter, despite its lower theoretical precision, offers faster response times. Through the setup of an experimental platform, we demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed. © 2024 SPIE.

HGDiffuser: Efficient Task-Oriented Grasp Generation via Human-Guided Grasp Diffusion Models

Task-oriented grasping (TOG) is essential for robots to perform manipulation tasks, requiring grasps that are both stable and compliant with task-specific constraints. Humans naturally grasp objects in a task-oriented manner to facilitate subsequent manipulation tasks. By leveraging human grasp demonstrations, current methods can generate high-quality robotic parallel-jaw task-oriented grasps for diverse objects and tasks. However, they still encounter challenges in maintaining grasp stability and sampling efficiency. These methods typically rely on a two-stage process: first performing exhaustive task-agnostic grasp sampling in the 6-DoF space, then applying demonstration-induced constraints (e.g., contact regions and wrist orientations) to filter candidates. This leads to inefficiency and potential failure due to the vast sampling space. To address this, we propose the Human-guided Grasp Diffuser (HGDiffuser), a diffusion-based framework that integrates these constraints into a guided sampling process. Through this approach, HGDiffuser directly generates 6-DoF task-oriented grasps in a single stage, eliminating exhaustive task-agnostic sampling. Furthermore, by incorporating Diffusion Transformer (DiT) blocks as the feature backbone, HGDiffuser improves grasp generation quality compared to MLP-based methods. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach significantly improves the efficiency of task-oriented grasp generation, enabling more effective transfer of human grasping strategies to robotic systems. Manufacturing process selection, as a core element in the manufacturing workflow, plays a crucial role in improving processing efficiency and manufacturing quality. However, due to the fragmented, experience-based, and often outdated nature of processing knowledge, current process selection methods heavily rely on human intervention. To address these challenges, this study proposes an innovative approach that reframes manufacturing process selection as a graph-based semantic segmentation task. Building on this concept, we introduce a graph neural network-based method for manufacturing process selection, capable of effectively identifying processing methods in CAD models. This method discretely samples the topological faces and edges of CAD models, storing them as node and edge attributes in an attributed adjacency graph. Finally, we design experiments to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of this method in identifying manufacturing processes. Experimental results demonstrate that representing 3D CAD models with attributed adjacency graphs effectively captures the geometric and topological relationships between different faces of the model. This method can accurately identify corresponding manufacturing processes at the topological face level of CAD models, offering a novel approach to automated process selection. © 2024 IEEE.
