Although the relationship between anesthesia and consciousness has been investigated for decades, our understanding of the underlying neural mechanisms of anesthesia and consciousness remains rudimentary, which limits the development of systems for anesthesia monitoring and consciousness evaluation. Moreover, the current practices for anesthesia monitoring are mainly based on methods that do not provide adequate information and may present obstacles to the precise application of anesthesia. Most recently, there has been a growing trend to utilize brain network analysis to reveal the mechanisms of anesthesia, with the aim of providing novel insights to promote practical application. This review summarizes recent research on brain network studies of anesthesia, and compares the underlying neural mechanisms of consciousness and anesthesia along with the neural signs and measures of the distinct aspects of neural activity. Using the theory of cortical fragmentation as a starting point, we introduce important methods and research involving connectivity and network analysis. We demonstrate that whole-brain multimodal network data can provide important supplementary clinical information. More importantly, this review posits that brain network methods, if simplified, will likely play an important role in improving the current clinical anesthesia monitoring systems.

Lungs are a vital human body organ,and different Obstructive Lung Diseases(OLD)such as asthma,bronchitis,or lung cancer are caused by shortcomings within the ***,early diagnosis of OLD is crucial for such patients suffering from OLD since,after early diagnosis,breathing exercises and medical precautions can effectively improve their health state.A secure non-invasive early diagnosis of OLD is a primordial need,and in this context,digital image processing supported by Artificial Intelligence(AI)techniques is reliable and widely used in the medical field,especially for improving early disease ***,this article presents an AIbased non-invasive and secured diagnosis for OLD using physiological and iris *** research work implements different machine-learning-based techniques which classify various subjects,which are healthy and effective *** iris features include gray-level run-length matrix-based features,gray-level co-occurrence matrix,and statistical *** features are extracted from iris ***,ten different classifiers and voting techniques,including hard and soft voting,are implemented and tested,and their performances are evaluated using several parameters,which are precision,accuracy,specificity,F-score,and *** on the statistical analysis,it is concluded that the proposed approach offers promising techniques for the non-invasive early diagnosis of OLD with an accuracy of 97.6%.

We introduce a novel framework for analyzing reinforcement learning (RL) in continuous state-action spaces, and use it to prove fast rates of convergence in both off-line and on-line settings. Our analysis highlights two key stability properties, relating to how changes in value functions and/or policies affect the Bellman operator and occupation measures. We argue that these properties are satisfied in many continuous state-action Markov decision processes. Our analysis also offers fresh perspectives on the roles of pessimism and optimism in off-line and on-line RL. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

Explainable-AI-based two-stage solution for WSN object localization using zero-touch mobile transceivers

Artificial intelligence technology is widely used in the field of wireless sensor networks(WSN).Due to its inexplicability, the interference factors in the process of WSN object localization cannot be effectively eliminated. In this paper, an explainable-AI-based two-stage solution is proposed for WSN object localization. In this solution, mobile transceivers are used to enlarge the positioning range and eliminate the blind area for object localization. The motion parameters of transceivers are considered to be unavailable,and the localization problem is highly nonlinear with respect to the unknown parameters. To address this,an explainable AI model is proposed to solve the localization problem. Since the relationship among the variables is difficult to fully include in the first-stage traditional model, we develop a two-stage explainable AI solution for this localization problem. The two-stage solution is actually a comprehensive consideration of the relationship between variables. The solution can continue to use the constraints unused in the firststage during the second-stage, thereby improving the performance of the solution. Therefore, the two-stage solution has stronger robustness compared to the closed-form solution. Experimental results show that the performance of both the two-stage solution and the traditional solution will be affected by numerical changes in unknown parameters. However, the two-stage solution performs better than the traditional solution, especially with a small number of mobile transceivers and sensors or in the presence of high noise. Furthermore,we have also verified the feasibility of the proposed explainable-AI-based two-stage solution.

Nowadays many large cities often suffer from road congestion. Then, it is necessary to improve the working efficiency of urban road network with the help of computational intelligence technologies, within the Internet of vehicles (IoV) environment. We are committed to designing traffic flow prediction methods through the use of machine learning models. In this paper, we predict the traffic flow and traffic situation of the selected road segment. Specifically, we propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based long short-term memory (LSTM) model to predict the traffic flow. On the basis of it, we characterize the traffic situation with fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE)-based model. The experimental results show that the constructed DRL-based LSTM model can accurately predict the traffic flow data. Meanwhile, the traffic situation characterization model can represent the road traffic situation well. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

We delve into pseudo-labeling for semi-supervised monocular 3D object detection (SSM30D) and discover two primary issues: a misalignment between the prediction quality of 3D and 2D attributes and the tendency of depth supervision derived from pseudo-labels to be noisy, leading to significant optimization conflicts with other re-liable forms of supervision. To tackle these issues, we introduce a novel decoupled pseudo-labeling (DPL) approach for SSM30D. Our approach features a Decoupled Pseudo-label Generation (DPG) module, designed to efficiently generate pseudo-labels by separately processing 2D and 3D attributes. This module incorporates a unique homography-based method for identifying dependable pseudo-labels in Bird's Eye View (BEV) space, specifically for 3D attributes. Additionally, we present a Depth Gradient Projection (DGP) module to mitigate optimization conflicts caused by noisy depth supervision of pseudo-labels, effectively decoupling the depth gradient and re-moving conflicting gradients. This dual decoupling strat-egy-at both the pseudo-label generation and gradient lev-els-significantly improves the utilization of pseudo-labels in SSM30D. Our comprehensive experiments on the KITTI benchmark demonstrate the superiority of our method over existing approaches.

Overfitting is a common problem when there is insufficient data to train deep neural networks in machine learning tasks. Data augmentation regularization methods such as Dropout, Mixup, and their enhanced variants, are effective and prevalent, and achieve promising performance to overcome overfitting. However, in text learning, most of the existing regularization approaches merely adopt ideas from computer vision without considering the importance of dimensionality in natural language processing. In this paper, we argue that the property is essential to overcome overfitting in text learning. Accordingly, we present a saliency map informed textual data augmentation and regularization framework, which combines Dropout and Mixup, namely DropMix, to mitigate the overfitting problem in text learning. In addition, we design a procedure that drops and patches fine grained shapes of the saliency map under the DropMix framework to enhance regularization. Empirical studies confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach on 12 text classification tasks. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.
