A Concept for an Integrated Robot Planning and Adaptive Control System

Future requirements of robot control systems are discussed. Advanced robots should be capable to cope with real world uncertainties and should include error recognition and error correction features. Such robot control systems will require a powerfull task level robot programming environment. An architecture for such a system is outlined. This approach incorporates task level problem solving as well as robot control components.

In this paper we argue that the incorporation of experiences on testing activities, in particular mutation testing, in programming courses adds valuable knowledge to the learning process. Mutation testing is centered on the idea of creating test data for uncovering seeded faults in programs that slightly differ from the original program. These faulty programs are called mutants. Through source code analysis and test case execution, testers have to identify the differences between the original program and the mutants. To do so, testers must have a sound understanding of the program's control flow and instructions. This broad understanding of programming represents a key skill for novice students in programming courses. We evaluate the effects of using mutation testing to improve the learning process of novice students in programming courses. We conclude that the introduction of mutation testing in the learning process provides students with learning experiences that go beyond traditional lectures and hands-on programming courses.

The recently proposed pseudo-LiDAR based 3D detectors greatly improve the benchmark of monocular/stereo 3D detection task. However, the underlying mechanism remains obscure to the research community. In this paper, we perform an in-depth investigation and observe that the efficacy of pseudo-LiDAR representation comes from the coordinate transformation, instead of data representation itself. Based on this observation, we design an image based CNN detector named PatchNet, which is more generalized and can be instantiated as pseudo-LiDAR based 3D detectors. Moreover, the pseudo-LiDAR data in our PatchNet is organized as the image representation, which means existing 2D CNN designs can be easily utilized for extracting deep features from input data and boosting 3D detection performance. We conduct extensive experiments on the challenging KITTI dataset, where the proposed PatchNet outperforms all existing pseudo-LiDAR based counterparts. We present a novel 3D object retrieval method that relies upon a hybrid descriptor which is composed of 2D features based on depth buffers and 3D features based on spherical harmonics. To compensate for rotation, two alignment methods, namely CPCA and NPCA, are used while compactness is supported via scalar feature quantization to a set of values that is further compressed using Huffman coding. The superior performance of the proposed retrieval methodology is demonstrated through an extensive comparison against state-of-the-art methods on standard datasets. © The Eurographics Association 2008.

The world communities have suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic for the last two years. Even though many countries have started to normalise the situation, the COVID-19 still becomes a severe threat in the future. Healthy habits, such as complete and frequent handwashing, still need to be practised. These habits can minimise the transmission risks. The paper proposed a single-board computer system that aims to assess the handwashing steps. The standardised handwashing procedure is used to validate the acquired video of hand movement. The system is installed in a Raspberry Pi and receives video data from the connected mini camera. The deep learning model is implemented to provide classification capabilities. The assessment result is summarised according to the movement completeness and total duration. The testing stages found that the proposed system can provide accuracy and F1-score values of 82.55% and 86.66%, respectively.

For the segmentation of moving objects in videos, the analysis of long-term point trajectories has been very popular recently. In this paper, we formulate the segmentation of a video sequence based on point trajectories as a minimum cost multicut problem. Unlike the commonly used spectral clustering formulation, the minimum cost multicut formulation gives natural rise to optimize not only for a cluster assignment but also for the number of clusters while allowing for varying cluster sizes. In this setup, we provide a method to create a long-term point trajectory graph with attractive and repulsive binary terms and outperform state-of-the-art methods based on spectral clustering on the FBMS-59 dataset and on the motion subtask of the VSB100 dataset.

In this paper a colour texture segmentation method, which unifies region and boundary information, is proposed. The algorithm uses a coarse detection of the perceptual (colour and texture) edges of the image to adequately place and initialise a set of active regions. Colour texture of regions is modelled by the conjunction of non-parametric techniques of kernel density estimation (which allow to estimate the colour behaviour) and classical co-occurrence matrix based texture features. Therefore, region information is defined and accurate boundary information can be extracted to guide the segmentation process. Regions concurrently compete for the image pixels in order to segment the whole image taking both information sources into account. Furthermore, experimental results are shown which prove the performance of the proposed method.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)is a multi-purpose neutrino experiment under construction in South *** paper presents an updated estimate of JUNO’s sensitivity to neutrino mass ordering using the reactor antineutrinos emitted from eight nuclear reactor cores in the Taishan and Yangjiang nuclear power *** measurement is planned by studying the fine interference pattern caused by quasi-vacuum oscillations in the oscillated antineutrino spectrum at a baseline of 52.5 km and is completely independent of the CP violating phase and neutrino mixing angleθ_(23).The sensitivity is obtained through a joint analysis of JUNO and Taishan Antineutrino Observatory(TAO)detectors utilizing the best available knowledge to date about the location and overburden of the JUNO experimental site,local and global nuclear reactors,JUNO and TAO detector responses,expected event rates and spectra of signals and backgrounds,and systematic uncertainties of analysis *** find that a 3σmedian sensitivity to reject the wrong mass ordering hypothesis can be reached with an exposure of about 6.5 years×26.6 GW thermal power.
