Secure and efficient management of multimedia objects in medical information system have become a necessity in today's global environment. To strengthen the security level already present in the database management system and to avoid illegal access to comprehensive content of database including patient's information, we propose in this article a mechanism using the content-based watermarking technique. Information of patient and a digest are encrypted, before being embedded into LSB's bitplane of image associated to the patient. This image is directly integrated into the database. The edge map and invariant moments are used to check the integrity of the image. © 2012 IEEE.

A number of action recognition methods make use of spatio-temporal features. These features often consist of local spatio-temporal descriptors centered at locations provided by an interest point detector. The extracted descriptors will then serve as input to classification algorithms. The correct scale of these descriptors is an essential parameter to be determined. Improved information quality has been achieved from recently developed entropy-based spatio-temporal feature descriptors. In this paper, we present an approach for determining scales of the sub-volumes of interest given the locations of spatio-temporal features. Our method works by measuring the average variations of local motion content calculated on subsequences of motion filter responses. We design a filter-specific data prior that allows to determine the scales of the informative neighborhoods. We demonstrate that features calculated at the scales provided by or method allow for noticeable performance improvements of action recognition algorithms.

The database systems use the mechanisms of granting and revoking privileges and of authorization control to ensure the security of data. However, some users such as administrators or persons in charge of security have access to comprehensive content of database including patient's information that are of intimate nature and must be discreet. To enhance the security and avoid illegal access of such users, we propose in this article a mechanism using the content-based watermarking technique. Patient's information are encrypted and inserted in an image associated to it. This image, with faculties of object-relational and object-oriented databases, is directly integrated into the database. To check the integrity of the image we use the edge map and invariant moments.

The fast evolutionary programming (FEP) introduced the Cauchy distribution into its mutation operator, thus the performances of EP were promoted significantly on a number of benchmark problems. However, the scaling parameter of the Cauchy mutation is invariable, which has become an obstacle for FEP to reach better performance. This paper proposes and analyzes a new stochastic method for controlling the variable scaling parameters of Cauchy mutation. This stochastic method collects information from a group of individuals randomly selected from the population. Empirical evidence validates our method to be very helpful in promoting the performance of FEP.

In this paper, we present a solution to the novel problem of recognizing primitive actor-object interactions from videos. Here, we introduce the concept of actor-object states. Our method is based on the observation that at the moment of physical contact, both the motion and the appearance of actors are constrained by the target object. We propose a probabilistic framework that automatically learns models in such constrained states. We use joint probability distributions to represent both actor and object appearances as well as their intrinsic spatio-temporal configurations. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability of our approach on series of human-object interaction classification experiments.

We present a novel method for learning human motion models from unsegmented videos. We propose a unified framework that encodes spatio-temporal relationships between descriptive motion parts and the appearance of individual poses. Sparse sets of spatial and spatio-temporal features are used. The method automatically learns static pose models and spatio-temporal motion parts. Neither motion cycles nor human figures need to be segmented for learning. We test the model on a publicly available action dataset and demonstrate that our new method performs well on a number of classification tasks. We also show that classification rates are improved by increasing the number of pose models in the framework.

Coordination systems have been gaining popularity since the early 80s with the introduction of the LINDA coordination model. Soon after its introduction researchers and practitioners alike started to realize that coordination is ubiquitous to any distributed systems but unfortunately partially responsible for the inefficiency found in these systems-coordination deals with costly issues such as process communication and synchronization. In the beginning of this decade, researchers looked for alternatives for implementing more efficient means of coordination; they turned to Swarm Intelligence; the first of these approaches was called SWARMLINDA. Performance of LINDA-based coordination systems is directly related to the issue of system entropy (tuple organization). SWARMLINDA approaches for tuple organization are investigated in this paper using a simulator. After a careful study on the performance of SWARMLINDA, we introduce modifications on the algorithm so as to achieve better entropic levels.
