Deep Semantic and Attentive Network for Unsupervised Video Summarization

With the rapid growth of video data, video summarization is a promising approach to shorten a lengthy video into a compact version. Although supervised summarization approaches have achieved state-of-the-art performance, they require frame-level annotated labels. Such an annotation process is time-consuming and tedious. In this article, we propose a novel deep summarization framework named Deep Semantic and Attentive Network for Video Summarization (DSAVS) that can select the most semantically representative summary by minimizing the distance between video representation and text representation without any frame-level labels. Another challenge associated with video summarization tasks mainly originates from the difficulty of considering temporal information over a long time. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) performs well for temporal dependencies modeling but does not work well with long video clips. Therefore, we introduce a self-attention mechanism into our summarization framework to capture the long-range temporal dependencies among the frames. Extensive experiments on two popular benchmark datasets, i.e., SumMe and TVSum, show that our proposed framework outperforms other state-of-the-art unsupervised approaches and even most supervised methods. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

Stability-Constrained Contingency Analysis for Modern Power systems

Modern power systems comprise diverse nonlinear components, and an increasingly large number of low inertia renewable power sources necessitate the modernization of conventional power system security measures. Contingency analysis (CA), a routine process for power system operators, ensures grid security under unforeseen circumstances by identifying potential issues and enabling proactive measures for uninterrupted power flow. Electromechanical oscillations (EMOs) in the power system that are a threat to stability must be regularly monitored and mitigated. An online hierarchical EMO index integrating time and frequency response analysis can be utilized for system stability assessment. The integration of an EMO index threshold into contingency analysis is presented in this paper to enhance system security. This new approach is referred to as the stability-constrained contingency analysis (SCCA). Typical results for a modified two-area, four-machine power system with large solar photovoltaic plants simulated on a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) are presented. These results demonstrate that SCCA flags potential issues that can arise from EMOs for certain contingencies, whereas traditional CA does not, as it solely considers bus voltage limits and line ratings.

We focus on a real-time multi agent decision-making algorithm that combines a centralized algorithm and a distributed algorithm. A network segmentation is unavoidable in a dynamic environment. In such cases, it is necessary for each agent to continually make the most urgent real-time decisions in both centralized and decentralized ways. In this paper, we present a Hybrid Factored-Value Max-Plus algorithm with cost which has online, anytime, and scalable properties despite network segmentation. We also study the performance of centralized and distributed algorithms to understand the performance characteristics of a hybrid algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

The unipolar photocurrent in conventional photodiodes(PDs)based on photovoltaic effect limits the output modes and potential versatility of these devices in *** photodiodes with photocurrent switching are emerging as a promising solution for obtaining photoelectric devices with unique and attractive functions,such as optical logic ***,we design an all-solid-state chip-scale ultraviolet(UV)PD based on a hybrid GaN heterojunction with engineered bipolar polarized electric *** introducing the polarization-induced photocurrent switching effect,the photocurrent direction can be switched in response to the wavelength of incident light at 0 V *** particular,the photocurrent direction exhibits negative when the irradiation wavelength is less than 315 nm,but positive when the wavelength is longer than 315 *** device shows a responsivity of up to−6.7 mA/W at 300 nm and 5.3 mA/W at 340 nm,*** particular,three special logic gates in response to different dual UV light inputs are demonstrated via a single bipolar PD,which may be beneficial for future multifunctional UV photonic integrated devices and systems.

This paper summarizes the technical activities of a three-year-long IEEE Task Force (TF) on State Estimation (SE) for Integrated Energy systems (IES). It presents the formal definition and characteristics of IES, along with the comprehensive discussion on Electric Power systems (EPS) model, and static and dynamic models associated with heating and natural gas systems. The paper also identifies the barriers of SE for IES, such as estimation modeling, observability analysis, and measurement requirements, together with addressing multi-scale dynamics. An extensive comparative analysis between Integrated Energy systems-State Estimation (IES-SE) and more established Electric Power System-State Estimation (EPS-SE) is presented. The paper also provides future research needs and directions related to IES-SE. © 1969-2012 IEEE.
