One of the most serious problems encountered in Naval steam plants following World War II was the unreliable performance of boiler and main feedpump pneumatic control systems. In addition to control component and system design deficiencies, these control systems suffered from inadequate methods to measure and adjust system alignment. This paper describes the development of a set of procedures for on-line alignment verification (OLV) of pneumatic main boiler and feedpump control systems. The procedures are designed for use by N avy control system technicians and, in addition to on-line alignment verification, provide guidance for troubleshooting and for performing system alignment. Procedure static checks measure steady state steaming performance and OLV procedure dynamic checks measure the ability of the boiler and control systems to respond to load changes. The paper describes typical control system characteristics that influence OLV procedure content and the supporting analysis that was used to establish alignment criteria ranges that satisfy both steady state and transient performance requirements. Also described is the alignment criteria tolerance analysis along with the steps involved in a typical OLV check procedure development. Descriptions of the various OLV checks, troubleshooting procedures and alignment procedures are provided. Typical shipboard implementation requirements are described and experience to date with the procedures is provided along with a status report on OLV procedure implementations.

The paper analyses a pneumatic temperature transmitter the principle scheme is shown. The device is a gas filled thermal system coupled with a force to air converter with a standard output signal. From static point of view the paper points out the necessity of “theoretical” zero and span adjustments which, as in practice, must preceda the static characteristic determination. An iterative method of doing these adjustments with a quick static characteristic determination are given. Supply effect is also evaluated. The paper also presents the dynamic aspects regarding stability and time response problems. Some experimental data are included and the main constructive aspect is stated.

The multi-core architecture has revolutionized the parallel computing. Despite this, the modern age compilers have a long way to achieve auto-parallelization. Through this paper, we introduce a language that encouraging the auto-parallelization. We are also introducing Front-End for our auto-parallelizing compiler. Later, we examined our compiler employing a different number of core and verify results based on different metrics based on total compilation time, memory utilization, power utilization and CPU utilization. At last, we learned that parallelizing multiple files engage more CPU resources, memory and energy, but it finishes the task at hand in less time. In this paper, we have proposed a loop code generation technique that makes the generation of nested loop IR code faster by dividing the blocks into some extra code blocks using a modular approach. Our TAM compiler technique speedup by 7.506, 5.283 and 2.509 against sequential compilation when we utilized 8, 4 and 2 cores respectively. We observed that the CPU utilization of the TAM compiler reaches the maximum permissible limit when an optimal parallelizable instance is compiled.

The series Advances in Industrial control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. In some areas of manufacturing, the elements of a flexible manufacturing system form the key components of the process line. These key components are four-fold: a set of programmable robots and machines, an automated materia- handling system that allows parts to be freely routed and re-routed, a buffer storage system where parts and partly-assembled components can wait until required for further processing and assembly and finally, a supervisory control system. The technology employed to coordinate and control all these components as a working system is usually based on programmable logic controllers.
