To reduce energy consumption for sustainable and energy-efficient manufacturing, a good understanding of the dynamic energy consumption patterns on the manufacturing shop floor is essential. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to address the challenge of missing operation context information during in-situ energy data measurement. Finite-State Machines (FSMs) are used to model the engineering processes, and a two-stage framework for online classification of real time energy measurement data in terms of machine operation states is proposed for energy audit and machine management. The first stage uses advanced signal processing techniques to reduce noise while preserving important features, and the second stage uses intelligent pattern recognition algorithms to cluster energy consumption patterns. Our proposed two-stage framework is evaluated on an industrial injection moulding system using a Savizky-Golay (SG) filter and a Neural Network (NN), and our experimental results show a 95.85% accuracy in identification of machine operation states.

This paper studies under-constrained cable-driven parallel robots with three cables. A major challenge in the study of these manipulators is the intrinsic coupling between kinematics and statics, which must be tackled simultaneously. In this contribution, a general elimination procedure is provided that solves the direct geometrico-static problem, which consists in determining the platform posture and the cable tensions when the cable lengths are assigned. The problem is proven to have up to 156 complex solutions.

The goal of this article is threefold: (1) Present a thorough model of a generic fin-guided projectile involving the 6DoF nonlinear dynamics, equilibrium point computation, Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) modeling & stability analysis concepts (2) Investigate various structures of low complexity closed loop feedback controllers that could be potentially applied to fin-guided projectile autopilots. (3) Investigate several crucial modeling issues relevant to autopilot design such as state space transformations which avoid output feedback in favor of state feedback, actuator model incorporation, etc. Simulation results demonstrate the performance and the complexity aspects of the proposed control algorithms.

This paper proposes a new approach to identification of the poles in a linear system from frequency domain data. The discrete rational transfer function is represented in a rational Laguerre-basis, where the basis elements can be expressed by powers of the Blaschke-function. This function can be interpreted as a congruence transform on the Poincaré unit disc model of the hyperbolic geometry, leading to a nice geometric interpretation of the identification algorithm. Convergence results in hyperbolic metrics will be given. The full procedure is illustrated by simulation examples.

Ambient networks aim to provide a unified networking concept that can adapt to the very heterogeneous environment of different radio technologies and service and network environments. One of the important issues in the ambient network is to aware complex contexts in various environments. This complex context is determined by a surrounding environments or variety of situations. Office is one of the most appropriate environments to apply this ambient network service. In this application, the main product would be central storage controller (CSC), which is able to receive command from employee in the office. The CSC receives information from devices of the network and this information is saved at the CSC. The ambient network can support the CSC to process this command very efficiently. In this paper, we applied ambient network concept to office environment and show our automatic intelligence application.

The aim of this paper is to place the relation of human and intelligent devices on a new, ethologically inspired base. So far, when designing intelligent device interaction mainly human to human type interactions were taken into consideration to form the human-system relationship. Since intelligent devices perform an inferior role to their human user, we consider that a more successful human-system relationship could be set up if the communication and interaction between them were based on ethological (human-animal communication) aspects. The aim of this paper is to work out this paradigm shift, considering philosophical, epistemological, mathematical and implementation aspects. Focused on the network security situation evaluation, a novel hierarchical evaluation system, which is based on Grey Clustering Analysis, is proposed. In this system, network attacks are classified into "Strong", "Medium", and "Weak" three harmful levels by Grey Clustering Analysis to construct a hierarchical index system. Then, the Analytic Hierarchy Process is used to calculate the impact factor of each network attack, and form the evaluation system to calculate the network security situation value. With Grey Clustering Analysis, harmful level ownership of each network attacks is determined, and each network attacks' influence can be truly reflected. Moreover, network security situation value's calculation speed can be improved by Analytic Hierarchy Process. Finally, large amounts of electric power on-site experiments indicated that the evaluation system is well performed by showing network security situation in both coarse-grained and fine-grained analysis.

We propose a systems design procedure to integrate mechanical design, structural prototyping, and servo evaluation through careful comprehension of the servo-mechanical-prototype production cycle commonly employed in mechatronic industries. Our approach focuses on the Modal Parametric Identification (MPI) of key feedback parameters for fast exchange of design specifications and information to enable efficient conduct of product design evaluations and support schedule compression of the R&D project life cycle. Using the commercial Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as a case example, we demonstrate how our approach allows inter-disciplinary specifications to be communicated amongst engineers from different backgrounds to speed up the R&D process for the next generation of intelligent manufacturing. This provides the project management team with powerful decision-making tools for project strategy formulation, and improvements in project outcome are potentially massive because of the low costs of change.
