In this paper wavelet decomposition is combined with autoregressive models to analyze and predict climate time series such as solar radiation and photovoltaic cell temperature. The method is tested on climate parameters for analysis, and solar radiation and cell temperature for prediction. The work effectiveness is evaluated by the prediction of the electric energy produced by a 100 Wp photovoltaic panel. Finally, the performance of predictor is measured by standardized error.

This paper considers the problem of formation control for mobile robots which are subject to input constraints. The control strategy based on virtual robot tracking is proposed, which leads to a compact controller form in terms of two feedback parameters by Lyapunov method. The introduced elliptic approximation of input constraints brings much convenience to obtain suitable feedback parameters. It is show that the presented sufficient condition guarantees the existence of feasible feedback parameters. Moreover, guidelines for the selection of feedback parameters are provided with geometric analysis. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

The use of Numerical control and computers in manufacturing has enabled the development of new sheet forming processes. One of these flexible processes is called Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF) in which deformation is localized by the movement of a spherical or flat forming tool. ISF is carried out regularly by a CNC machine tool or by a Robot, which follows a tool-path generated by CAM programs, without the need for costly dies. Despite research progresses in understanding the deformation mechanism in ISF the process still needs a further optimization to guarantee the reliability required for industrial applications. This paper deals with the design of a new smart forming tool, applying FEM modeling and simulation, which is able to measure one of the key process parameters: the sheet thickness during the forming process. The authors analyze the possibility to use a Hall-effect sensor integrated into the forming tool for more precise on-line thickness measurement than what can be found in the literature and first results are reported.

Multi-scale principal component analysis(MSPCA) is not a good fault diagnosis method because of pattern compounding effect of principal component analysis(PCA). In addition, multi-scale filtering is required for multiple PCA modeling to increase the computational complexity. In this paper, a multi-scale designated component analysis (MSDCA) method is proposed by using the designated pattern as a uniform projection frame. MSDCA can well solve the problem of pattern compounding effect of MSPCA and reduce the complexity of establishing multiple PCA modeling during multi-scale filtering. Furthermore, MSDCA can also improve the performance of designated component analysis(DCA) fault diagnosis method. Simulation shows the effectiveness of this algorithm.

The spatial uncertainties of tip positioning due to the nonlinearity of the PZT scanner and thermal drift hinder the further application of the AFM based nanomanipulation. This paper brings forward feature referenced tip localization enhanced by probability motion model to reduce the spatial uncertainties. An improved motion model is probabilistically built by incorporating the PI model, the creep model and the thermal drift model. For calibrating the accurate model parameters, the statistical experiments are designed and performed. Then the tip position is optimally estimated by combining with a local scan based feature sensing method. The simulation and corresponding experiments are performed to illustrate the validity and feasibility of the calibrated parameters and the algorithm.

Abstract In this paper, the relative position parameters of the target spacecraft are obtained by using the vision measurement and the target maneuver positions are calculated through the isochronous interpolation method. Furthermore, new switch control laws under constant thrust are designed for active collision avoidance maneuver of the chaser along a specified trajectory. The switch control laws are obtained based on the acceleration sequences and the working times of thrusters in three axes which can be respectively computed by the time series analysis method. The perturbations and fuel consumptions are addressed during the computation of the working times. The simulation results show that the constant thrust maneuver can effectively guarantee the chaser maneuvering along the specified trajectory.

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has proven to be a powerful tool for imaging the topographic properties of biological samples and measuring the molecular specific binding forces at cellular and molecular levels. However, there are still great difficulties in using AFM to acquire images of mammalian suspension live cells due to the suspension growth manner and the softness of the cell membrane. In this paper, lymphoma live cells were trapped in microfabricated patterned pillars and then imaged by AFM in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution. In addition, the CD20 distribution on the lymphoma cell surface was visualized three-dimensionally by tethering rituximabs (anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody) onto the AFM tips. The experimental results indicate that immobilization with microfabricated patterned pillars provides a novel way for anchoring suspension mammalian cells, opening the way for further investigation of the molecular mechanisms of rituximab's anti-cancer effect.

Abstract In this paper, a risk-sensitive filter for a class of jump Markov nonlinear systems is proposed. By using a set of weighted cubature points to approximate the intractable risk-sensitive recursions, the proposed filter could exhibit improved numerical stability with respect to the derivation of the square-root covariance, for which the unscented transform technique might halt the operations due to the presence of non-positive definite covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is illustrated through a simulation study of tracking a land vehicle with maneuvers.
