Accurate and effective parameter identification is an important engineering task in high performance control system design. One emerging approach to effectively identify such nonlinear or dynamic unknown parameters is to use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Linear Permanent Magnet (LPM) motor is a high performance actuator employed in many applications that require direct linear motion without mechanical transmission for high acceleration and accurate positioning. Therefore, accurate motor parameters are necessary to effectively control the LPM motors. This paper proposes a simple PSO based method with chirp inputs to identify the LPM motor's parameters. The simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the results and determine the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we present an approach to scalable co-scheduling in distributed computing for complex sets of interrelated tasks (jobs). The scalability means that schedules are formed for job models with various levels of task granularity, data replication policies, and the processor resource and memory can be upgraded. The necessity of guaranteed job execution at the required quality of service causes taking into account the distributed environment dynamics, namely, changes in the number of jobs for servicing, volumes of computations, possible failures of processor nodes, etc. As a consequence, in the general case, a set of versions of scheduling, or a strategy, is required instead of a single version. We propose a scalable model of scheduling based on multicriteria strategies. The choice of the specific schedule depends on the load level of the resource dynamics and is formed as a resource query which is sent to a local batch-job management system.

This paper studies the tracking control problem of mobile manipulators based on state observer. The proposed tracking controller ensures that the full state of the system can asymptotically track the given desired trajectory globally in the presence of the system coupling. Extensive simulations presented in the paper show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In this work, a nonlinear inversion-based feed-forward controller for a two-stage turbocharged diesel air system with exhaust-gas recirculation is developed. A nonlinear mathematical model is derived for the controller design on the basis of a high-order reference model by applying the singular perturbation theory. In this context, simplified models of different air system components are formulated in such a way that the resulting reduced-order model is differentially flat. Thereafter, the differential flatness property of the design model is exploited to derive the feedforward controller. The approximation performance of the reduced-order model as well as the suitability of the developed feedforward control scheme are finally evaluated by means of simulation studies.

Industrial communication systems standardize communication protocols and services. Interoperability within automation and control systems need additional application definitions. This is usually organized with fieldbus profile specifications. Profiles become part of the overall development process of the device manufacturer. Unfortunately, today's profile descriptions are very informal and have nearly no support for the development process. This paper presents a semi-formal profile specification approach, based on IEC 62390 and using a mixed UML and MS Word process. Result of both specifications is an XML representation which can be integrated in the device development process. This method is developed for the PROFIBUS User Organisation for PROFIBUS and PROFINET device profiles.

In this paper, an efficient framework for passive-blind color image tampering detection is presented. Statistical features are extracted from a given test image and a set of 2-D arrays derived by applying multi-size block discrete cosine transform to the given test image. Image features are extracted from Cr channel, a chroma channel in YCbCr color space, because of its observed sensitivity to color image tampering. A support vector machine is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of image features over a color image dataset recently established for tampering detection. Boosting feature selection is applied to having feature dimensionality reduced so as to make detection accuracy generalizable and computational complexity decreased. Experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed framework applied to the aforementioned dataset outperforms the state of the arts by distinct margins.
