Investigation on the pre-compensation and post-compensation cascaded multi-channel-chirped fiber Bragg gratings for a repeaterless transmission system

We experimentally designed dispersion-managed repeaterless transmission systems with a pre-compensation and post-compensation technique using multi-channel-chirped fiber Bragg gratings. The repeaterless transmission link supports a single channel（1548.51 nm） with a 10 Gbps repeaterless transmission system over 300 km standard single-mode fiber（SSMF）. In the system design, two distributed Raman amplifiers（DRAs） were used to improve the signal level propagated along the 300 km SSMF. The co-propagating DRA provided 15 dB on–off gain and the counter-propagating produced 32 dB on–off gain at the signal wavelength. The experiment results show that the post-compensation configuration achieves an optimal performance with a bit error rate at 1 × 10-9.

Modern powerful reconfigurable systems are suited in the implementation of various data-stream, dataparallel, and other applications. An application that needs real-time, fast, and reliable data processing is the global positioning system (GPS)-based vehicle tracking system (VTS). In this paper, we build on a recently produced VTS (The Aram Locator) offering a system-on-chip (SOC) replacement of the current microcontroller-based implementation. The proposed SOC is built on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) promising a cheaper design, a more cohesive architecture, a faster processing time and an enhanced system interaction. Different designs, and their hardware implementations, are proposed with different levels of integration. Performance analysis and evaluation of the investigated designs are included. The vehicle density determines the frequency of information congestion and collision in VANETs, and affects the quality of communication. Cluster management of vehicle nodes can effectively improve communication efficiency of the network. A clustering framework based on changes in vehicle density and an improved k-means clustering algorithm based on vehicle movement characteristics are proposed in this paper. According to the change of vehicle density, nodes are dynamically clustered, in some cases MSCNs(Mobile Secondary Computing Node) are selected and virtual computing areas are divided. The simulation on NS3 shows that the proposed improved k-means-based adaptive clustering algorithm has strong stability and high communication efficiency.

This study demonstrates the implementation of multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) transmission donut modes in space wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) over multi-mode optical fiber (MMOF) and simulating the effect of mode coupling of the transmitted signal. However, during the data transmitted over MMF by using SWDM an issue is encountered, which is the inter symbol interference (ISI) due to mode coupling. ISI has been recognized as a major obstacle to high-speed data transmission. The signal processing in SDM of donut modes over MMOF with electrical feedback equalizer is used to improve the performance for increasing the bandwidth. A data rate 80 Gbit/s up for a distance of 1600 meters is achieved. SWDM topology was designed emitted from a spatial vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) through MMOF in conjunction with the configurations of electrical feedback equalizer. The parameters and values used in Opt-Sim simulation topology were listed. The performance measurement of this study based on bit-error rates (BER) and eye diagram before and after electrical feedback equalization were analysed.

This paper reports a new kind of mathematical model for language competition dynamics using compartmental epidemiological modeling approach. The model describes the competition between two languages, say the predominant one called language 1, and the less spoken language 2, both in the same community. We distinguish three groups of population building the concerned community: one majority speaking language 1, one minority speaking language 2 and a last minority speaking neither language 1 nor language 2. The study of the proposed model includes an analysis of the evolution of the number of speakers over time. This model predicts that language 2 can inevitably disappear if the threshold parameter R is less than one. We show that our model is well-posed mathematically and linguistically. We also show that the model has basically two linguistic equilibrium points. A monolingual equilibrium point that corresponds to the case where only one language is spoken: some individuals speak only the language 1 and some others do speak neither language 1, nor language 2. A bilingual equilibrium point which corresponds to the case where all the languages are spoken: some individuals speak both languages 1 and 2, some others speak only language 1, while a third group does speak only language 2, and the last group speaks none of the two languages. In this bilingual equilibrium point, both languages coexist. Depending on the threshold parameter, we demonstrate the stability of these equilibria. The model presents on one hand, a direct bifurcation phenomenon, in which we have a stable equilibrium point without bilingual speakers when the associated basic reproduction number is less than one. On the other hand, it presents a stable bilingual equilibrium point when the number of associated basic reproductions is greater than one. Intelligent Wheelchairs represent mechanical devices designed to empower individuals with the ability to move independently. This results in a reduction of the user’s energy expenditure and effort required to maneuver the wheels. Additionally, these devices facilitate the movement of visually or physically challenged individuals between different locations. The wheelchair is equipped with a system that recognizes obstacles, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents during transportation. Recently, there has been a growing fascination with smart wheelchairs, which prove particularly advantageous for seamless transportation. These devices find application not only’s for personal use but also in nursing homes, aiding elderly individuals facing mobility challenges. They are particularly in-valuable for those who has lost their mobility. While various type of intelligently designed wheel-chairs has been developing in the past, ongoing advancements introduce new generations with artificial intelligence, offering users a ranges of options. People with life-long disability resulted from accidents, paralysis, or aging often depend on others for assistance. The incorporation of intelligent healthcare systems, including remote health monitoring, enhances their independence by allowing continuous health tracking without requiring active effort from the individual. This is especially beneficial for those facing difficulties accessing traditional medical systems. In today’s world, numerous individuals with disabilities encounter obstacles in their daily lives and mobility. While many rely on external support, the integration of assistive technologies enables them for achieving the degree of self-independence. Among these technologies, wheelchairs are the most commonly utilized. In this paper, we address the problem of constructing a robust stealthy attack that compromises uncertain cyber-physical systems having unstable zeros. We first interpret the (non-robust) conventional zero-dynamics attack based on Byrnes-Isidori normal form, and then present a new robust zero-dynamics attack for uncertain plants. Different from the conventional strategy, our key idea is to isolate the real zero-dynamics from the plant's input-output relation and to replace it with an auxiliary nominal zero-dynamics. As a result, this alternative attack does not require the exact model knowledge anymore. The price to pay for the robustness is to utilize the input and output signals of the system (i.e., disclosure resources). It is shown that a disturbance observer can be employed to realize the new attack philosophy when there is a lack of model knowledge. Simulation results with a hydro-turbine power system are presented to verify the attack performance and robustness. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a review of how the various aspects of any study using an eye tracker (such as the instrument, methodology, environment, participant, etc.) affect the quality of the recorded eye-tracking data and the obtained eye-movement and gaze measures. We take this review to represent the empirical foundation for reporting guidelines of any study involving an eye tracker. We compare this empirical foundation to five existing reporting guidelines and to a database of 207 published eye-tracking studies. We find that reporting guidelines vary substantially and do not match with actual reporting practices. We end by deriving a minimal, flexible reporting guideline based on empirical research (Section "An empirically based minimal reporting guideline").

This work develops a compact 9 GHz microwave imaging system. The core of the system is a vector network analyzer (VNA) which utilizes range-correlation architecture to suppress the phase noise of the received signal. To overcome the bottleneck that conventional mixer-based phase detectors have limited phase detection range, a novel quadrature phase detection algorithm is proposed. The experimental results show that the microwave imaging system can well detect the bone image of a chicken wing. © 2018 IEEE.
