This paper puts forward an optimization in routing processing for wireless sensor networks. The sensor node in such network is a battery-operated sensing device. These nodes are placed in space with a consideration to a base station that centralizes and consolidates the data transmitted or forwarded by sensor nodes. When optimizing the management of a Wireless Sensor Network, we have to take care of the consumption of energy that takes place while sensor nodes are running the routing process to send or relay a message to neighbors or to a Base Station. In this paper, we put forward a study of sensors' behavior by modeling and implementing a controller with Coloured Petri Network in order to ensure the reduction of energy consumption in some sensor networks in which each node can be activated or suspended as need be. The controller must deal with activation and suspension to apply a reconfiguring policy to nodes depending on an energy supply level in every sensor in order to obtain the lowest level possible of energy consumption and maintain the same service quality consisting in total coverage of the region to survey and the connection of active nodes to the functional network. The evaluation of our presented model is made by CPN-Tools.

Maintaining connectivity is a key responsibility of any routing system, but successfully carrying it out can be challenging, especially for inter-domain paths. Many measurements indicate the links failures are fairly common in the Internet. During the period of failures, some destination would be unreachable and the corresponding services unavailable. Shrinking the convergence time window to improve connectivity of destination may cause routing instability when the majority of failures are transient. To improve failure resiliency without jeopardizing routing stability, we propose a fast reroute approach, called PT, which works by pre-established protected tunnel to react quickly to multi-providers network link failures so as to perform non-stop routing. Through simulation we demonstrate that PT is more resilient to multi-providers network link failures and the scale of exchanged messages is acceptable.

As more and more mission critical services emerge on the Internet, there is a growing demand for the Internet to provide stringent service availability and reliability. More and more domains adopt multi-homed connection to expect increasing reliability. But the de facto inter-domain protocol - BGP spends a long period to converge to another stable state when one of the links of multi-homed domain fails. The delayed convergence of BGP deteriorates the performance of time stringent services. In this paper, we propose a fast reroute approach, called Fremd, to react quickly to multi-homed domain link failures so as to perform non-stop routing. Through simulation we demonstrate that Fremd is more resilient to multi-homed domain link failures and the scale of exchanged messages and route table size due to the deployment of Fremd is acceptable.

Component migration is an effective way for legacy software systems reuse and evolution. The process of component migration for legacy systems involves two major phases: identifying reusable components, and adapting source code to the newly identified component-based system architecture, that is, componentization. Our work concerns the latter phase. In this paper, focusing on improving reusability and extensibility of legacy software systems, we proposed an automated approach to migrating legacy software systems into component-based systems with refined target system architecture. We proposed three policies for componentization: information hiding policy, common class extraction policy and component creation policy. A tool called JCMT is developed to perform componentization and generate executable software artifacts. We also presented a case study to demonstrate that the proposed approach and the tool JCMT can be used efficiently and cost-effectively for organizations maintaining legacy systems.

In this paper we propose a novel planar near-field antenna for radio-frequency identification (RFID) based on the principle that two closely spaced opposite-directed currents (ODC) can generate a strong magnetic field over a broad surface area. To implement the ODC concept, the proposed antenna uses a dipole and a parasitic patch with a microstrip feedline. The proposed antenna provides an Hz field greater than -20 dBA/m in a region of 30 times 30 cm 2 . Measurements with a commercial RFID system show a maximum reading range of 24 cm, and a reading area of 744 cm 2 for a reading range greater than 5 cm.

This paper presents a novel application of incorporating Alternating Structure Optimization (ASO) to conduct the task of text chunking of Semantic Role Labeling (SRL) in Chinese texts. ASO is a competent linear algorithm based on the theory of multi-task learning. In this paper, by constructing several SRL tasks to constitute a multi-task, we are able to encode the inference obtained by ASO algorithm as additional feature to further boost the performance of the target task employing Conditional Random Fields (CRFs). To our knowledge, our method is the first that incorporates multi-task learning into a statistical model in SRL for Chinese texts. We evaluate our approach on Penn Treebank data sets and obtain encouraging result.

We report the real-time visualization method of surface plasmon resonance with the spectroscopic attenuated total reflection. Recently, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) had been studied for plasmonics devices to construct faster processor in the electronic microprocessors. SPR is strong interaction between light and free electron near metal surface, which cause absorption of light due to its resonance. The behavior can be explained with Fresnel’s equation. As the wave number of light with a certain frequency is not matched with that of surface plasmon, a prism or a grating is used in order to compensate this mismatching. In the prism case, the wave number is changed by changing the incident angle to the metal surface inside the prism as ksp=n*k0sinθ, where ksp and k0 is the wave numbers of surface plasmon and incident light, respectively, n is the refractive index of the prism and θ is the incident angle to the metal surface inside the prism. Therefore, the SPR can be observed by absorption of light as functions of the wavelength and the incident angle. This resonance behavior as functions of the wavelength and the incident angle can be observed directly with a two-dimensional detector such as a CCD camera. As the two-dimensional SPR images for 50nm-thick silver films on the prism surface have been observed experimentally, they have good agreement with calculated ones. Kretchmann configuration using a glass prism and an approximately 50-nm-thick silver or gold film was often used in order to evaluate the optical constants of the film. Most of SPR signals had been measured with either angular or spectral dependence with this geometry. In the case of angular dependence, the monochromatic laser, e.g. He-Ne laser at 632.8nm, is often used for the incident light. We demonstrate and validate that concurrent and parallel transmissions are feasible for low data-rate impulse-radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB) physical layers. The optimal organization for a low data-rate IR-UWB network is to allow for concurrent transmissions at the link layer, and to use interference mitigation techniques at the physical layer. Indeed, low data-rate IR-UWB physical layers can suffer from multi-user interference (MUI), especially in near-far scenarios. Therefore, we perform an experimental validation with a packet-based, low data-rate IR-UWB physical layer testbed. Our results clearly demonstrate that concurrent IR-UWB transmissions are possible. This shows that completely uncoordinated low data-rate IR-UWB networks are feasible. We also demonstrate that, in the presence of MUI, an interference mitigation scheme at the physical layer is indeed necessary. In particular, because it is the first component for the proper reception of a packet, we focus on packet detection and timing acquisition. We show that a traditional scheme is not robust against multi-user interference and prevents concurrent transmissions. On the contrary, a scheme designed to take MUI into account, even with a very simple interference mitigation scheme, allows for concurrent transmissions, even in strong near-far scenarios.

We proposed a novel method to realize a compact bandpass filter (BPF) using a standard CMOS process for a 35 GHz passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imaging system. We first investigated the principal loss of low resistivity silicon substrate, which could be effectively reduced by adding a ground plane in bottom layer. In order to improve the inherent poor quality of the designed dual-mode BPF due to stacking less oxide layers, a novel design skill by adding a branch line in M3 layer was provided. A CMOS BPF with an insertion loss of 4 dB and good selectivity were realized in succeed. © 2009 VSP.

This paper investigates the problem of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. It presents a new PAPR reduction method based on addition of power of random signals in a complex Gaussian distribution form to the data constellation points in frequency domain. The added signals alter the constellation shape by shifting the constellation points from their original positions into new positions. This change in shape is accompanied by changes in the statistical properties and reduction in the PAPR value. There is no need to send side information to the receiver for signal recovery. This scheme significantly reduces the PAPR value without decrease in the bit rate or BER performance. Moreover, there is no out-of-band distortion resulted. For 64-PSK OFDM system using 128 data sub-carriers, >4 dB reduction in the PAPR value is achieved by using the proposed PAPR reduction method.
