A novel frequency multiplier using a composite right/left-handed transmission line and defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed. The left-handed transmission line (LH TL) in the proposed frequency multiplier suppresses the fundamental component (f 0 ), while the dumb-bell or spiral shaped DGS diminish unwanted harmonics such as second, third, and fourth harmonic. The frequency multipliers are designed at f 0 of 1 GHz by the proposed technique and measured results are presented. The measured output power at 2f 0 , 3f 0 , 4f 0 , is -3.77 dBm, -6.70 dBm, -6.58 dBm, respectively, when the fundamental input power is 0 dBm.

A new multiplexing technique which is called duty cycle division multiplexing (DCDM) is presented in this paper. Theoretical and simulation studies have been carried out to evaluate the performance of this technique based on the signal energy and symbol error rate (SER). A wireless channel based on free space propagation model is considered for the simulation study. Two modulation schemes of PSK and QAM are used to evaluate the technique, against the number of users and data rates. Also, the performance of the multiplexing technique is compared with the conventional time division multiplexing (TDM) technique as well as with the multilevel M-ary signaling. The study shows that the energy per bit in the DCDM technique, unlike that of the TDM technique increases with the number of users. The simulation results correspond with the theoretical study in which the DCDM technique has better SER than that of TDM.

Non-uniform traffics can severely degrade the performance of code division multiple access (CDMA) and space division multiple access (SDMA) cellular systems. In this paper, we propose a novel interference cancellation scheme by using the joint multiple access system from the merge of CDMA and SDMA systems to form dynamic space code multiple access (DSCMA). This multiple access system uses a modified version of large area synchronous (LAS) sequence called LAS even-ternary (LAS-ET) sequence to increase its duty ratio. This sequence also exhibits a region called interference free window (IFW) near zero delay time offset. In order to ensure that all the signal components drop within the IFW, a narrow beam with higher directivity smart antenna system is exploited. The size of IFW is adapted to the smart antenna half-power beamwidth using DSC algorithm. By using this algorithm the spectrum efficiency is further increased. Finally, all the interferences induced in non-uniform traffics can be dramatically reduced in DSCMA system and thus resulting in a higher system capacity.

In this paper, we present hardware-oriented partitioning approach that can solve the partitioning issues for embedded multiprocessor FPGA systems. In addition, it can gain a better partitioning result, faster execution time, less memory and higher slice used rate, under satisfied system constraints. We also demonstrate the feasibility of our approach by a JPEG encoding system using Xilinx ML310 FPGA platform. Experiment results show that the execution time and memory size are improved.

In this paper, we propose an enhancement partition method that incorporates formal partition, fitting system constraints and hardware orient partition algorithm to solve partitioning issue for embedded multiprocessor FPGA systems. With formal partition, we can rapidly obtain a set of partitioning results that satisfy the system constraints on the number of processors. To fit various system constraints, we find out all partition result sets by fitting system constraints. Finally, hardware orient partition can provide a nearly best partition result for designer to develop multiprocessors system-on-a-chip system. Experiment results show that the proposed method can obtain the fitting best partitioning result than other partitioning method using JPEG encoding system example.

Hundreds of thousands circuits can not be verified easily while develop a field programmable gate array (FPGA) system. In this paper, we develop a functional verification tool, namely FVT, to verify the designer defined specification of functionalities with simulator and emulator in a FPGA system. In addition, FVT can point out the exact bugs for functionality where locates at specific cycle. Experiment results show that FVT can save time up to 99%.

In this paper, we present a new approach to investigate the existence and design of reduced-order proper H_(infinity) controllers that provide the same level of performance as that of full-order controllers. By revealing some special features of the LMI-based solvability conditions for the H_(infinity) control problem for descriptor systems, we obtain a refined bound on the order of H_(infinity) controllers, which is independent of (invariant under the allowed transformations on) a descriptor realization of the generalized plant. Moreover, we provide two LMI-based algorithms to design the reduced-order controllers and demonstrate the validity of the presented theoretical results via two numerical examples. This paper not only extends in a satisfying way the results on reduced-order H_(infinity) controllers for state-space systems to descriptor systems, but also provides insight into the mechanism by which the order of H_(infinity) controllers for descriptor systems can be reduced through a consideration of the unstable finite zeros or infinite zeros.

This paper presents the effect of atmospheric attenuation during hazy days for free space optical (FSO) communication in point-to-point connection. The analysis focuses on scattering coefficient and atmospheric attenuation effects on low visibility, which falls in the range of 1.8 km to 4.5 km. The performance comparison is also done for the wavelength of 850 nm and 1550 nm. The result shows that the performance of 1550 nm is better than 850 nm in both performance parameters. As the link range between transmitter and receiver increases, the atmospheric attenuation increases too. Deployment distance of less than 1km can reduce the effect of atmospheric attenuation. These challenges limit FSO to the short distance application.

In this paper, a compact 5 poles Ultra-Wideband (UWB) microwave filter is designed by using a quarter wave short-circuited stubs. The UWB filter bandwidth is covered from 2.75 GHz to 10.0 GHz. This filter designed is developed from a Low Pass Chebychev prototype with a 0.1dB passband ripple. The first pattern layout uses 5 vias connecting to the ground. This pattern layout is then re-arranged to reduce the total area space needed on microstrip by maintaining the optimum filter response. Finally, a compact microwave filter with 21 mm × 16.1 mm dimension is presented here with excellent scattering characteristic results.
