Studies the swing up control for the Acrobot, i.e., to move the Acrobot from its stable downward position to its unstable inverted position and balance it about the vertical. The combination of the partial linearization control for the swing up phase proposed by Spong (1995) and the robust control for the capture and balance phase is utilized in this paper. The key idea is first to treat the speed of the second link when it rotates across the vertical as an uncertainty, and then to design a robust controller based on the quadratic stabilization method to cope with such uncertainty. It is shown that that the robust controller is generally superior to the LQR controller in capturing and balancing the Acrobot, and the difficulty of tuning the gains in the swing up phase can be ameliorated.

Studies the swing up control for the Acrobot, i.e., to move the Acrobot from its stable downward position to its unstable inverted position and balance it about the vertical. A control scheme which combines of the partial linearization control (related to the first link) for the swing up phase introduced in Spong (1995) and robust control for the capture and balance phase is proposed. The key idea is to treat the speed of the second link when the Acrobot rotates across the vertical as an uncertainty, and to design a robust controller to cope with such uncertainty by using the LMI solution to the quadratic stabilization problem. Hence, the basin of attraction of the robust controller is bigger than that of the LQR controller which is designed based on the linearized model of the Acrobot around the unstable equilibrium. The simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

In wireless communication networks, handoff management is one of the challenging areas in order to maintain the connectivity and its efficiency in handling the mobile users. A handoff switch is defined as a point in the network from which a new sub-path to new base station is established. It should have functions for rerouting and buffering. We propose an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch with handoff support functions, which may perform buffering and rerouting efficiently, achieves in-sequence cell transmission and minimizes the cell loss during a handoff. Buffering is needed in the mobility support ATM switch to reduce the cell loss probability (CLP) with tolerable delay maintaining in-sequence cell delivery, which is not available in ATM switch. A mobility support ATM switch with fully shared input buffer functionality is analyzed with required optimum buffer size under bursty (on-off) traffic maintaining the quality of service (QoS) contract.

In wireless multimedia networks, there exists traffic asymmetry between uplink and downlink channels. The CDMA/TDD system can alleviate this problem, however, previous work in this area can not manage efficiently the traffic, asymmetry among cells. In this paper, we propose a new time slot allocation scheme that considers the traffic pattern of each cell. To solve the inter-cell interference problem, we divide a cell's area into two regions and we allocate the resource of crossed slots to mobile stations which are existing in the inner-region. This proposed scheme increases the resource utilization and decreases the blocking probability of the system as a whole. And our DARD (Different time slot Allocation based on a Region Division) scheme outperforms conventional SA (Same time slot Allocation) scheme in the heterogeneous traffic environment.

An information retrieval system (IR system) collects documents, analyses the contents of the documents, and saves them in the form of a structure effective to search. The IR system provides the user with proper information. In Korean, predicates specify the meaning of nouns. Therefore, if predicates are used as index words in retrieval, the retrieval precision can be raised. In this study, the author implements an IR system using predicates as index words and interrelation by the relative distance of a predicate and a noun. He inspects an efficient storing structure of index words as well.

As the volume of Internet information has been increasing, an Internet retrieval agent is studied to offer an individualized or specialized retrieval engine according to the user's preference and purpose and to overcome the weak points existing in retrieval engines. In order to elevate the recall and precision of a retrieval engine and simultaneously to get effective results, the existing retrieval engine should be moduled enabling effective distribution and multi-processing. Through this process user preference should be reflected on the retrieval result. In this study we transformed the Mirine system (made by PNU) into the base system of the agent and constructed the retrieval agent environment for distribution, multi processing, and real searching.

We present the performance gain of dual smart antennas with adaptive combining at handsets for the 3GPP W-CDMA system. The adaptive algorithm based on the normalized least-mean-square (N-LMS) algorithm is employed, in which antenna weights are recursively obtained. To obtain the channel profile, we adopted the GBSB (geometrically based single bounce) elliptical and circular models. The simulation results show that the dual smart antenna system with adaptive combining performs better than a single antenna system and its performance gain is 3.3 dB for the GBSB elliptical model at BER of 5/spl times/10/sup -2/ and 5.5 dB for the GBSB circular model. The higher performance gain is achieved as the mobile velocity decreases.

In robot soccer, as well as in real soccer and in every team effort, coordination between members of a team is a key issue. We describe the coordination strategies that were designed to achieve effective cooperation between a robot goal-keeper and the rest of the ART (Azzurra Robot Team) team that participates in the RoboCup F-2000 (midsize) competitions.

In this paper a multiinput second order sliding rnode control algorithm for underwater vehicles trajectory tracking will be introduced. The proposed approach guarantees perfect tracking and stabilization even in presence of disturbances and uncertainties typical of this kind of systerns. The trajectories to be tracked are designed basing on an artificial potential field technique. The control objectives are achieved by acting on the voltage of the motors driving the thrusters and the resulting forces and torques are continuous.
