In this paper, we introduce a stacked ensemble model for lung cancer diagnosis, combining Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Artificial Neural Networks. Our model, validated on two datasets and achieving diagnostic accuracies of 92.6% and 88.9%, outperforms traditional algorithms. We also highlight the model's robustness through advanced feature selection methods like ReliefF and Chi-Square. The results we achieved showcase the potential of machine learning techniques in medical diagnostics and contribute significantly to the field of computational oncology, offering a promising approach for early lung cancer detection and prognosis. © 2024 IEEE.

Vaxallot seeks to implement a system to distribute vaccines across high-risk groups accounting for various parameters and prove to be superior to what conventional systems are capable of today. It is a Python flask-based tool backed by infrastructure and data resources from the Covid India central repository;all it needs is a single channel input and a single parameter of the value produced, and the algorithm will take care of the rest. Since it’s Python-based and has an active integration with google sheets, live value updating could be possible for the real-time output of the distribution. The novelty of the proposed mechanism is the unique priority index, a score that accounts for an array of factors associated with the pandemic and is computed for regions in question here;this makes way for better distribution of vaccines. The application has an exclusive segment centered on handling excess units, if any. Moreover, since the application is developed to suit the needs of dynamic demographics, any region can roll out this application for purposes they desire to serve the masses. This paper describes our design of multihop multiRAT routing protocol based on the traditional DYMO (Dynamic MANET On Demand) routing protocol. Since the tradition routing protocols including DYMO only support singleRAT communications. With the increasing demand of multiRAT communications, there is a need for a multihop multiRAT routing protocol. Among the well-accepted routing protocols, DYMO is one of the popular routing protocols, which is also a successor of the widely-used AODV (Ad-Hoc on Demand Distance Vector). To support multiRAT, a route discovery process in DYMO is enhanced. A route request message RREQ will be broadcasted from the source to its neighbors through multiRAT instead of singleRAT as done traditionally. Then, the intermediate hosts also perform the same procedure by broadcasting the received RREQ to the next hop via all RATs they have in hands. The process continues until reaching the destination. The destination then sends a route reply message RREP back to the source through the reverse order of the intermediate hosts and the specified RATs. Therefore, a routing table stored on each host has be enhanced to include the information regarding the RAT used for each route entry, so that the RREP can be successfully sent through the right RATs along the discovered route back to the source. With the performance evaluation based on the simulation in OMNET++, the result shows that the proposed enhanced multiRAT DYMO achieves high QoS in terms of reception rate and end-to-end delay, and successfully create routes in multiRAT environment with the mix use of different RATs in each data route. © 2024 IEEE.

Balance disorders pose a significant health concern, especially among the elderly, often leading to falls and a reduced quality of life. The TeleRehabilitation of Balance clinical and economic Decision Support System (TeleRehaB DSS) project aims to tackle these challenges by integrating personalised interventions with advanced digital health technologies. This multidisciplinary effort, funded under the Horizon 2020 framework, leverages cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality to deliver tailored rehabilitation programs. TeleRehaB DSS aims to optimise treatment efficacy, improve patient engagement, and enhance the overall quality of life for individuals with balance disorders. Additionally, the project emphasises personalisation based on multiple criteria, including socio-economic factors and digital skills, to provide the most effective intervention for each participant. The overall concept will be assessed during a clinical validation phase to be conducted in 5 countries and hospitals.

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems provide geographically unrestricted services to ground users. However, the conflict between existing resource allocation schemes and the variability of inter-beam traffic is becoming increasingly prominent. To address this issue, this paper proposes a resource allocation strategy for beam-hopping satellite networks based on Rate-Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) technology, aiming to reduce co-channel interference while improving system resource utilization. First, by analyzing the resource allocation challenges faced by beam-hopping satellite networks, including low spectrum utilization and co-channel interference, the background and motivation for the proposed strategy are provided. Next, RSMA technology is introduced, dividing user messages into common and private parts, and a corresponding resource allocation algorithm is designed to enhance spectrum utilization and reduce co-channel interference. Through the construction of a system model and simulation experiments, the effectiveness and performance advantages of the proposed strategy are verified. This study provides new ideas and methods for resource allocation in beam-hopping satellite networks, which is significant for improving system performance and service quality. © 2024 IEEE.

Assessing the impact of meteorological parameters for forecasting floods in the northern districts of Bihar using machine learning

India is the second largest flood affected country in the world. Every year floods have a deleterious effect on people, agriculture and infrastructure. Due to its high population density and poor infrastructure, the damage caused by floods in India is exacerbated forcing millions of people to migrate from one place to other. Therefore, there is a need to devise flood mitigation strategies that would forecast future floods in real time. In this paper, machine learning techniques have been used for forecasting floods in the northern districts of Bihar. Experimental results showed that, in addition to traditional meteorological parameters rainfall and temperature, certain parameters like vapour pressure, cloud cover, wet day frequency, crop evapo-transpiration and surface evapo-transpiration had a severe impact on the performance of a flood forecasting model. Bihar is the most flood-affected state in India and the losses incurred amount to one-third of the total losses due to floods in India. These losses can be alleviated by designing models that forecast floods in real time. One such model exists that uses classification based machine learning techniques to forecast floods in northern district of Bihar. However, the flood dataset used was imbalanced, as the non-flooding instances far exceeded the flooding instances. This paper attempts to address this problem by balancing this data using oversampling techniques and thereafter use it for designing flood forecasting models. The objective of the paper is to ascertain whether balancing dataset improves the performance of classifiers. Experimental based comparison showed that the classifiers performed comparatively better on balanced dataset in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, F-measure and AUC-ROC. Further, dataset balanced using KMeans SMOTE resulted in the maximum improvement in the performance of all classifiers. Copyright © 2022 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Augmented Reality (AR) Supporting Citizen Engagement in Circular Economy

Improving the public’s awareness of and engagement with sustainable practices is essential for transitioning from a linear to a circular economy (CE). This task is not trivial;however, research into new ways of effectively supporting awareness and engagement, especially in view of digitalization trends, is still missing. In this study, we investigate the ability of augmented reality (AR) technology to improve awareness of CE practices and to engage citizens, inclusively, in the CE approach. Specifically, we report on the development of a novel AR engagement tool and present the results of two studies undertaken using this tool to assess the reliability and validity of this engagement practice. The first study focuses on the citizens of a municipality in Greece, and the second focuses on the general public outside the municipality boundaries. Attributes related to user engagement, such as novelty, aesthetics, perceived usability, endurability, focused attention, self-efficacy, perceived learning, and interest in the topic, were assessed, as were factors affecting these attributes related to the participants’ knowledge of CE principles and exposure to similar technologies. The two studies indicate that the AR engagement tool increased social inclusion and community cohesion and was able to successfully bring CE principles and benefits to the public’s attention. Higher engagement levels were observed in participants who had limited exposure to the concept of CE prior to using the AR tool, and its use was found to improve their confidence and interest in CE. This study aspires to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the use of mobile AR and to support further evidence-based development of digital tools for public awareness and engagement. © 2022, The Author(s).
