An FIR filter is implemented in this work. Enhancing the arithmetic operations of the filter is considered. For the addition operation, the signed-digit number system is utilized. For the multiplication operation, Booth-3 algorithm is used to reduce the number of partial products. Then a 1D filter is used to construct a 2D filter that is deployed on real hardware in an image processing application.

As mobile technologies evolved, the mobile networks provided users not only high mobility, but also high data rates and flexible services. Meanwhile, Internet services had been very successful from 1970s to date. However, the Internet and the mobile telecommunications evolved separately and were not compatible until 3GPP proposed the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). In this paper, we first introduce mobile Web 2.0 application creation in the next generation IMS network. Teaching engineering and technology subjects involves conveying understanding of abstract information structures and processes such as complex telecommunications protocols, complex mathematical concepts, and data structures. These are multidimensional and can be difficult to grasp quickly. Supported by a Hewlett-Packard (HP) Technology for Teaching grant, the School of engineering and Technology at National University has embarked on a project to enable students to grasp these complex concepts more quickly and easily, using continuous dialog among students and instructors as the structures are first introduced and then examined from multiple perspectives through real-time interaction among students, small groups, and instructors. HP Wireless Tablet PCs are used to discuss and experiment with diagrams and processes in realtime. This allows combining lectures and problem-solving sessions into a single class session. Our hypothesis is that: 1) an in-depth learning of theory is accomplished, and 2) student engagement is enhanced. Presentation of theory by the instructor is integrated with application while the theory is still in the student's short-term memory. Students no longer have to wait for a separate session such as a recitation session to apply the concepts. This approach often takes less time. In addition to accelerating the learning process, expert instructors find this approach more rewarding as students grasp new concepts more quickly. Analysis of data captured from both students and instructors are presented to support our hypotheses, and our results are compared with similar research carried out by other universities. In addition, the level of interaction enabled by the use of HP Tablets in on-line classes is discussed. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) can characterize vascular heterogeneity, and has potential utility in assessment of the efficacy of angiogenesis inhibitors in cancer treatment. Due to the heterogeneous nature of tumor microvasculature, the measured signals can be represented as the mixture of the permeability images corresponding to different perfusion rates. We recently reported a hybrid convex analysis of mixture framework for unmixing of non-negative yet dependent angiogenic permeability distributions (APDs) and perfusion time activity curves (TACs). In our last work, we presented an underlying theory to infer the concept that the TACs can be identified by finding the lateral edges of an observation-constructed convex pyramid when the well-grounded points exist for all APDs. For fulfilling this concept, a hybrid method including non-negative clustered component analysis, convex analysis, and least-squares fitting with non-negativity constraints was developed. In this paper, we use computer simulations to validate the performance of our reported framework, and further apply it to three sets of real DCE-MRI data, before and during the treatment period, for assessing the response to antiangiogenic therapy. The experimental results are not only surprisingly meaningful in biology and clinic, but also capable of reflecting the efficacy of angiogenesis inhibitors in cancer treatment.

The BER performances of differential and nondifferential synchronous downlink multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems that employ random spreading are studied and compared using Standard Gaussian Approximation (SGA) in AWGN channel. Furthermore, Monte-Carlo simulations were carried out to compare the BER performances of these systems in AWGN and in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels considering a various number of interferers in the system. Various modulation schemes were considered namely, BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, DBPSK, and DQPSK modulation schemes.

Speech act classification is an essential part of a dialogue system because it is very important to catch user's intention. The previous approaches on speech act classification were focused on obtaining high performances in a single-domain, but they did not deal with a feature interference problem that frequently rises in a multi-domain. In this paper, we propose a two-step system for speech act classification in a multi-domain. In a first step, the proposed system detects a dialogue domain associated with user's utterance. In the second step, the proposed system determines the speech act of his/her utterance based on the statistical information of the detected domain. Owing to this architecture, the proposed system show ed higher precision of 5.5% than the baseline system based on the mixed statistical information.
