This paper proposes new processor architecture to exploit the increasingly number of transistors per integrated circuit and improve the performance of data parallel applications on general-purpose processors. The proposed processor (called Mat-core) is based on the use of multi-level ISA to explicitly communicate data parallelism to processor in a compact way instead of the dynamic extraction using complex hardware or the static extraction using sophisticated complier techniques. Since the fundamental data structures for data parallel applications are scalar, vector, and matrix data, Mat-core extends a scalar core (for executing scalar instructions) with a matrix unit (for executing vector/matrix instructions). Like vector microarchitectures, the extended matrix unit is organized in parallel lanes; each lane contains a pipeline of each functional unit and a slice of the register file. However, the Mat-core processor can effectively process not only vector but also matrix data on the parallel lanes. The increasingly budget of transistors can be exploited to scale the Mat-core processor by providing more cores in a physical package. On a multi-core processor, performance would be improved by parallel processing threads of codes using multi-threading techniques.

This paper introduces a reformulation to design full-matrix Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) controllers for multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) plants with model uncertainty. It considers a double-step procedure: an inverse-based decoupling and a consecutive loop-by-loop quantitative robust control design. The method generalizes several previous non-diagonal MIMO QFT techniques, avoiding some required prior hypotheses of such former methods, and simplifies the design procedure. It deals with two classical control problems: reference tracking and disturbance rejection at plant output. The paper ends applying the new technique to the design of a MIMO controller for a spacecraft flying in a formation that is moving with respect to a central body in a circular orbit.

In this paper a method to estimate the initial rotor position of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) at the stand still condition is proposed. The proposed method can be implemented by the simple microcontroller based system, and it is not necessary to know the magnetization curves. The impulse gate drive signal is applied and the winding current is detected and its approximate value is used for calculating the rotor position. The compensation method to reduce the estimation error thorough one cycle is also mentioned. The proposed method is implemented with the 6-stator-pole and 4- rotor-pole, 1.5 kW 3-phase switched reluctance motor.
In this paper, a design of the 3-phase, 6-stator-pole and 4-rotor-pole, 15 kW switched reluctance motor for the propulsion system of the electric vehicle is presented. Its performance such as the torque per volume and...

This paper explores the characteristics (i.e. stability and performance) of transfers to, and captures at Europa. We focus on optimal low-thrust transfers from Ganymede to potential science orbits at Europa and compare different capture types, transfer resonances, and thrust accelerations. The two types of capture methods we consider are capture in a distant retrograde orbit (DRO) and capture by targeting a state on a stable invariant manifold of a halo orbit. We show that each type has its advantages and disadvantages. The first part of DRO-type capture may be easier than a halo-type capture in some design schemes because DROs are generally extremely stable. However, halo-type captures using stable invariant manifolds typically result in fewer escapes even when full ephemeris is used. Moreover, changing the inclination to achieve a high inclination science orbit at Europa is much easier in a halo-type capture. We study these trade-offs in this paper.

This modeling study investigates the functional role of pacemaker neurons in generating stable rhythms in the pre-Botzinger complex, a subcircuit of the respiratory pattern-generating circuitry in mammals. While the presence of pacemakers within the network is without doubt, the percentage and significance of such pacemakers is still unresolved. Here we revisited earlier network simulations by varying the fraction of pacemaker and non-pacemaker neurons within the network, and quantifying the robustness of the input parameter space and range of frequencies output by the network. Stable network rhythms were possible even with no pacemakers. However, we found that a network of at least 50% pacemakers produced the greatest range of output frequencies and had the more robust input space

Due to the wide spread of Arabic documents on the Internet, it becomes an urgent necessity to build systems that manipulate Arabic documents. In this paper, we propose a new technique of an Automatic Text Categorization (ATC) for Arabic documents based on a light stemming algorithm;which removes suffixes and prefixes from words. Despite the complexity of Arabic language, our technique shows a very significant F-measure varying between 0.85 and 0.987 with an average of 0.955. The obtained results are like those for the well-studied English language using the best ATC techniques including Support Vector Machines.
We now apply the model predictive control (MPC) of speed limits that we have presented in previous publications to a calibrated METANET model of a 19 km stretch of the real-world freeway A1 in The Netherlands. This fr...

Nanchang Institute of Aeronautical Technology Nanchang 330034 novel 3-D temperature field reconstruction method is proposed in this paper which is based on multi-wavelength thermometry and Hopfield neural network computed tomography. A mathematical model of multi-wavelength thermometry is founded and a neural network algorithm based on multiobjective optimization is developed. Through computer simulation and comparison with the algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) and the filter back-projection algorithm (FBP) the reconstruction result of the new method is discussed in detail. The study shows that the new method always gives the best reconstruction results. At last temperature distribution of a section of four peaks candle flame is reconstructed with this novel method.
