In this study, we present an effective hybrid algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO), called PSO-TLBO, to solve multi-objective optimization (MOO) problems. In PSO-TLBO, teacher phase and learner phase in TLBO are incorporated to a PSO to improve the exploration and exploitation ability. Another feature of PSO-TLBO is the improved circular crowed sorting (CCS) to truncate the external archive which stores the nondominated solutions found during the search. Moreover, the polynomial mutation is used only when the velocities of all solutions are very small. The performance of PSO-TLBO algorithm for MOO is tested on ZDT and DTLZ benchmarks functions and compared with some powerful MOO algorithms in terms of both convergence and spread performance. Also, the contribution of CCS is compared with crowded sorting in NSGA-II. Comparison results reveal the powerful ability of PSO-TLBO to obtain remarkable solutions in terms of inverted generational distance (IGD) metrics.

In traditional multiple instance learning (MIL), both positive and negative bags are required to learn a prediction function. However, a high human cost is needed to know the label of each bag - positive or negative. Only positive bags contain our focus (positive instances) while negative bags consist of noise or background (negative instances). So we do not expect to spend too much to label the negative bags. Contrary to our expectation, nearly all existing MIL methods require enough negative bags besides positive ones. In this paper we propose an algorithm called 'Positive Multiple Instance' (PMI), which learns a classifier given only a set of positive bags. So the annotation of negative bags becomes unnecessary in our method. PMI is constructed based on the assumption that the unknown positive instances in positive bags be similar each other and constitute one compact cluster in feature space and the negative instances locate outside this cluster. The experimental results demonstrate that PMI achieves the performances close to or a little worse than those of the traditional MIL algorithms on benchmark and real data sets. However, the number of training bags in PMI is reduced significantly compared with traditional MIL algorithms. © 2016 IEEE.

As a promising technique, cooperative relaying has attracted more and more attention from academia and industry recently. In this paper, we investigate the scheme of Decode-and-Forward Two-way Relaying (DF-TWR) relying on a cross-layer design, which combines adaptive Network-coded Modulation (NCM) at the physical layer and truncated Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) at the data link layer. The relay node utilizes Network-Coded Quadrature amplitude modulation (NC-QAM) where NCM imposes only a modest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation on the single-link QAM performance. Additionally, we derive the achievable spectral efficiency in closed-form for transmission over Rayleigh fading channels. It is shown that this combination of adaptive NC-QAM and truncated ARQ substantially improves the system's throughput compared to the schemes operating without ARQ.

In this papers, the authors see dynamic SPL as a technical mean to achieve DevOps and propose a process to construct the dynamic adaptive system (for dynamic SPL) and its operation process. The process conducts uncertainty modeling in beginning, identifies uncertainties, divides them into smaller uncertainties and studies needed development and operation works for each possible solution to the known uncertainty. Requirements are separated into ones satisfied by the dynamic adaptive system and ones satisfied by its operation process. Requirements relating to known uncertainty is satisfied by reconfiguration of the dynamic adaptive system, namely dynamic SPL technologies. On the other hand, additional and change requirements to the dynamic adaptive system and its operation process found in operation, which are relating to unknown uncertainties, are realized by derivative development process. The proposed process achieves DevOps's goal by combination of reconfiguration and evolution of the dynamic adaptive system.

A CMOS chaotic jerk oscillator is presented based on inherently hyperbolic tangent nonlinearity. The circuit comprises three Gm-C integrators, a current mirror and a differential Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA). The OTA provides inherently hyperbolic tangent nonlinearity for chaos. A balanced double-scroll strange attractor is capable of continuously smooth transition to an unbalanced double-scroll and, finally, to either a right-half or a left-half single-scroll attractor. Such transition is adjustable by varying a DC voltage. The circuit is implemented in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology with full-custom design. © 2016 IEEE.

Many uncertainties arise in system development as systems can be complex and large-scale and can be deployed in an uncertain environment. Developers cannot determine some types of uncertainties until the start of an operation. To deal with changing requirements and environments owing to these uncertainties, we must build an architecture that takes operations into account within a system development lifecycle. In this paper, a lifecycle-oriented development process is proposed to improve the uncertainties of requirement and design. As a case study, we apply the proposed method to the development of Patrash, a transfer guide application.

An analysis on element shape geometry is presented in this paper to enhance the reflectarray element bandwidth, to produce a more reliable phase distribution over the reflectarray antenna aperture and to have a good reflection element performance. The shape analysis consists of circular patch element, circular ring element and circular square ring element. The reflection coefficient parameter focuses on phase range, phase slope, bandwidth and return loss performance for each analysis and presented in this paper. It is shown that the proper selection of element shape geometry will significantly affects the reflection coefficient of reflectarray element and the antenna gain performances.

Mining class association rules (CARs) with the itemset constraint is concerned with the discovery of rules, which contain a set of specific items in the rule antecedent and a class label in the rule consequent. This task is commonly encountered in mining medical data. For example, when classifying which section of the population is at high risk for the HIV infection, epidemiologists often concentrate on rules which include demographic information such as gender, age, and marital status in the rule antecedent, and HIV-Positive in the rule consequent. There are two naive strategies to solve this problem, namely pre-processing and post-processing. The post-processing methods have to generate and consider a huge number of candidate CARs while the performance of the pre-processing methods depend on the number of records filtered out. Therefore, such approaches are time consuming. This study proposes an efficient method for mining CARs with the itemset constraint based on a lattice structure and the difference between two sets of object identifiers (diffset). Firstly, a lattice structure is built to store all frequent itemsets in the dataset. To reduce memory usage, instead of the entire set of object identifiers, the diffset is used. Secondly, the lattice is traversed to generate only rules which satisfy the itemset constraint. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of both the mining time and memory usage. © 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In recent years, in applications related to the remote sensing of the environment, the research on characterization of the electromagnetic wave interaction with complex rainfall particles is of great importance. Several analytical methods based on wave theory, such as quasi-crystalline approximation, are frequently used. However, these approaches are not able to capture the essential physics of many real world problems. The alternative method to deal with scattering of complex rainfall particles is resort to numerical technologies, for instance, the method of moment (MoM). The MoM can provide precise solution of complex media scattering, while the main disadvantages of MoM are significant calculation time and huge memory requirements for the storage of impedance matrix. In order to alleviate these bottlenecks, a fast numerical method, which is called Sparse-Matrix/Canonical Grid (SM/CG) method, is proposed as an efficient method for calculating the scattering from three-dimensional dense media. To obtain the scattering over a frequency- and angular-band using SM/CG, one has to repeat the calculations at each frequency and angle over the band of interest. This can be computationally prohibitive despite the increased power of the present generation of computers. In order to alleviate this difficulty, a hybrid 2-D interpolation method is proposed for the efficient electromagnetic scattering analysis of precipitation particles over a broad frequency and angular band. This method hybridizes the cubic spline interpolation method and the Steor-Bulirsch model. The cubic spline interpolation method is applied to model the induced current over wide angular band, while the Steor-Bulirsch model is applied to accelerate calculation over wide frequency band. Therefore, a great deal of time could be saved for the calculation of frequency- and angular-sweep.
