On Infinite Time Performance of Nonlinear Model Predictive Controllers

This paper addresses the problem of infinite time performance of model predictive controllers applied to constrained nonlinear systems. The total performance is compared with a finite horizon optimal cost to reveal performance limits of closed-loop model predictive control systems. Based on the Principle of Optimality, an upper and a lower bound of the ratio between the total performance and the finite horizon optimal cost are obtained explicitly expressed by the optimization horizon. The results also illustrate, from viewpoint of performance, how model predictive controllers approaches to infinite optimal controllers as the optimization horizon increases.

An evident correlation between the high injection and the efficiency droop is demonstrated in GaInN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for temperature ranging from 80K to 450K. For this temperature range, the efficiency droop has the same thermal tendency with the high injection, i.e. the onset shifts to lower voltage and higher current with increasing temperature. The voltage difference between two onsets mainly falls on the resistive p-type region and induces strong electric field to enable electron drift leakage and the resulting efficiency droop.

An analysis of the radar backscatter from oil-covered sea surfaces using moment method and Monte-Carlo simulation: preliminary results

An analysis of the radar backscattering from the ocean surface covered by oil spill is presented using a mi- crowave scattering model and Monte-Carlo simulation. In the analysis, a one-dimensional rough sea sur- face is numerically generated with an ocean waveheight spectrum for a given wind velocity. A two-layered medium is then generated by adding a thin oil layer on the simulated rough sea surface. The electric fields backscattered from the sea surface with two-layered medium are computed with the method of moments （MoM）, and the backscattering coefficients are statistically obtained with N independent samples for each oil-spilled surface using the Monte-Carlo technique for various conditions of surface roughness, oil-layer thickness, frequency, polarization and incidence angle. The numerical simulation results are compared with theoretical models for clean sea surfaces and SAR images of an off-spilled sea surface caused by the Hebei （Hebei province, China） Spirit oil tanker in 2007. Further, conditions for better oil spill extraction are sought by the numerical simulation on the effects of wind speed and oil-layer thickness at different inci- dence angles on the backscattering coefficients.

The in-plane rotation of magnetic stripe domains in a 65-nm magnetostrictive Fe0.8Ga0.2 epitaxial film was investigated combining magnetic force microscopy, vibration sample magnetometry, and x-ray resonant magnetic scattering measurements. We analyzed the behavior of the stripe pattern under the application of a bias magnetic field along the in-plane direction perpendicular to the stripe axis, and made a comparison with the analogous behavior at remanence. The experimental results have been explained by means of micromagnetic simulations, supported by energy balance considerations. Fields smaller than ∼400 Oe do not induce any stripe rotation; rather, a deformation of the closure domains pattern was evidenced. Larger fields produce a sudden rotation of the stripe structure.

Population ratios between excited states are measured to build the excited state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter(ESFADOF). We calculate these values between the excited states according to the spontaneous transition probabilities using rate equations and the measured intensities of fluorescence spectral lines of He atoms in an electrodeless discharge lamp in the visible spectral region from 350 to 730 nm. The electrodeless discharge lamp with populations in excited states can be used to realize the frequency stabilization reference of the laser frequency standard. This lamp can also build ESFADOFs for submarine communication application in the blue-green wavelength to simplify the system without the use of a pump laser.

This paper proposes user segmentation algorithm using moving edge detection to provide customized coaching service to users in advanced sports simulator like horse riding. To give this service in the simulator, exact user segmentation is very important. If the segmenting user from its background became better, we will get a better pose recognition results. In this paper, some of the well-known object segmentation methods to be applied to sports simulator have been investigated. Also, a moving object detection algorithm for recognizing user's poses which is a novel innovation to assure high recognition reliability in sports simulator has been proposed. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper,we present a model predictive control algorithm for input-saturated systems by a saturation-dependent Lyapunov function *** saturation-dependent Lyapunov function captures the real-time information on the severity of saturation and thus leads to less conservative results in controller design.A set invariance condition for the systems with input saturation is presented.A min-max MPC algorithm is proposed for the linear parameter-varying(LPV) systems based on the invariant *** MPC controller is determined by solving a linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization *** example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In order to improve the mobility robustness in heterogeneous networks (HetNets), a series of transport parameter optimization schemes are proposed in this paper. The HO parameters, including TimeToTrigger, A3-offset and Hysteresis are adaptively adjusted based on the type of the source cell and the type of the target cell. So as to achieve accurate measurement results, thus improving the HO performance, the Layer 3 (L3) filter coefficient is also optimized by adaptively adjusting its value with different UE speeds. Simulations are performed and results show that the proposed schemes behave well in HetNets and can help improve the mobility performance with respect to handover failure (HoF) rate and short time-of-stay (ToS) rate. As a small step towards mobility robustness optimization, the proposed schemes in this paper shine light on further study on transport parameter optimization in HetNets. © 2013 IEEE.
