The transmission of real time multimedia services in wireless ad hoc networks requires optimal multicast routing protocol that satisfies the quality of service guarantees. However, multicast routing protocol in wireless ad hoc networks must also be energy aware since the nodes are energy constrained due to limited battery life. This gives rise to the need for efficient multicast routing protocol that is able to determine multicast routes which satisfies the quality of service guarantees and at the same time conserves energy. The design of such protocol can be formulated as a Multiobjective Multicast Routing Problem (MMRP) that attempts to optimize the objectives simultaneously. The paper proposes a novel multiobjective algorithm based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for MMRP problem. Our protocol attempts to optimize the end-to-end delay and total transmitted power simultaneously to obtain the Pareto-optimal solutions. The simulation results are very promising and show that our algorithm is able to find near optimal solution efficiently.

Prediction of hard rock TBM penetration rate using least square support vector machine

The prediction of tunnel boring machine (TBM) penetration rate is helpful to plan construction time and to control cost. This paper studies on modeling the penetration rate and the rock mass parameters via least square support vector machine (LS-SVM). These rock properties include uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), Brazilian tensile strength (BTS), peak slope index (PSI), distance between planes of weakness (DPW) and the alpha angle. The correlation between the rock parameters and the measured rate of penetration (ROP) is first investigated via LS-SVM. Then the necessity of normalizing the rock parameters is discussed. Finally, comparisons between the LS-SVM and other methods are presented to demonstrate the applicability of LS-SVM for predicting ROP.

This paper investigates variation of infinite horizon (IH) performance of Model Predictive Control (MPC) without constraints as the optimization horizon changes. By exploring properties of the Difference Riccati Equations (DRE), an upper bound and a lower bound of the ratio between variation of IH performance of MPC and finite horizon (FH) optimal cost are obtained. The result shows the dynamic behavior of IH performance of closed-loop MPC systems as the optimization horizon varies.

3D RRAM arrays are studied at the device- and architecture-levels. The memory cell performance for a horizontal cross-point is shown experimentally to be essentially comparable to vertical pillar-around geometry. Array performances (read/write, energy, and speed) of different 3D architectures are investigated by SPICE simulation, showing horizontal stacked RRAM is superior but suffers from higher bit cost. Adopting a bi-layer pillar electrode structure is demonstrated to enlarge the array size in 3D vertical RRAM. Design guidelines are proposed for the 3D VRRAM: it shows that increasing the number of stacks of VRRAM while keeping the total bits the same, as well as scaling of feature size (F), are critical for reducing RC delay and energy consumption.

The paper proposes an algorithm for the rejection of periodic disturbances of unknown frequency. The frequencies of the components of the disturbance are estimated using an orthogonal signals generator based on second-order generalized integrators. A novel feature of the algorithm is that internal signals of the frequency estimator are combined linearly to produce the control signal, resulting in a very simple algorithm. For a sinusoidal disturbance, the entire scheme is governed by a single adaptive parameter. It is shown that, within the assumptions of an averaging analysis, the adaptive system is globally stable and completely rejects the disturbance, even in the presence of plant uncertainty. Bounds on the uncertainty can be computed a priori based on bounds on the disturbance frequency. Simulations demonstrate the properties of the algorithm in a variety of conditions. © 2012 IFAC.

This paper presents a novel real-time super-resolution (SR) method using directionally adaptive image interpolation and image restoration. The proposed interpolation method estimates the edge orientation using steerable filters and performs edge refinement along the estimated edge orientation. Bi-linear and bi-cubic interpolation filters are then selectively used according to the estimated edge orientation for reducing jagging artifacts in slanting edge regions. The proposed restoration method can effectively remove image degradation caused by interpolation using the directionally adaptive truncated constrained least-squares (TCLS) filter. The proposed method provides high-quality magnified images which are similar to or better than the result of advanced interpolation or SR methods without high computational load. Experimental results indicate that the proposed system gives higher peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM) values than the state-of-the-art image interpolation methods.

We present an antialiasing method using combined wavelet-Fourier transform and spatially adaptive shrinkage of the transform coefficients. Traditional antialiasing methods employ a simple low-pass filter onto the entire image, so the resulting image loses not only aliasing artifacts but also high-frequency components such as edges and ridges. The proposed algorithm analyzes the property of the LL subband of the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and reduces aliasing artifacts using patch-adaptive shrinkage of the DWT coefficients. More specifically, an antialiased LL subband is obtained using adaptive patch-based aliasing reduction. To detect an aliased region, we subtract the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) coefficients of the LL subband from the DFT coefficients of antialiased LL subband. The detected aliasing artifacts in the LH, HL, and HH subbands are reduced by patch-wise adaptive shrinkage of the transform coefficients. The resulting antialiased image is obtained using the inverse DWT. The aliasing artifacts can be efficiently reduced by adaptively shrinking wavelet transform coefficients for preserving high-frequency image details. The proposed antialiasing algorithm is suitable for removing aliasing artifacts which frequently occur in imaging sensors with limited resolution.

In this paper, we propose a tree search approach to generate and evaluate cooprative behavior online in multiagent systems. It was difficult to apply a tree search methodology to tasks that the state-action space is continuous and requires realtimeness. However, it has become possible to apply such an approach since the computational resources became more powerful today. We applied a tree search method to the Robo Cup soccer 2D simulation and analyzed its effect by evaluating the team performance. © 2012 IEEE.

A unified charge-based model for fully depleted silicon-on-insulator （SOI） metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors （MOSFETs） is presented. The proposed model is accurate and applicable from intrinsic to heavily doped channels with various structure parameters. The framework starts from the one-dimensional Poisson Boltzmann equa- tion, and based on the full depletion approximation, an accurate inversion charge density equation is obtained. With the inversion charge density solution, the unified drain current expression is derived, and a unified terminal charge and intrinsic capacitance model is also derived in the quasi-static case. The validity and accuracy of the presented analytic model is proved by numerical simulations.
