In this paper, we propose a method to estimate unknown team formation from observed positional data. We combined Growing Neural Gas Network and triangulation based function representation model in order to analyze positional data and recompose a team formation. In the experiments, we show the estimation results using the log file recorded by the RoboCup soccer 2D simulator.

The paper deals with the damage monitoring of concrete material structures by analysing the crack evolution by means of Acoustic Emission (AE). This analysis requires multi transducers, high sampling frequency and long time of observation. Triggered acquisition modality needs to avoid the saving of big size digitalized data. Due to the propagation in the concrete, the AE reduces its amplitude during the path, and, consequently, some events can be loosed due to the intensity lower than the trigger level. The proposal consists in the introduction of the Flat Amplifier and Trigger generator block (FAT) in order to generate a logical trigger when the AE is detected by one of the transducers. The experimental validation to assess the effectiveness of the acquisition system set up is performed according with the standard for AE in the concrete.

The research presented compares a fully passive solar driven geothermal air-conditioning strategy to an active forced air driven geothermal air-conditioning system;in either case ambient air propagates through the Earth-to-Air Heat Exchanger (EAHE) for the purpose of chilling our Solar Energy Research Testing Facility (SERTF) building, located in Bennington Nebraska. The all passive system employs two techniques namely EAHE and solar chimney. This full scale demonstration is then used to evaluate the performance of the coupled system (i.e. EAHE coupled with solar chimney) for the two cases, first: passive solar driven air flow, second: mechanically driven forced air flow, 24 hours per day. The system performance is evaluated through assessing the maximum air flow rate (CFM) and cooling (in Btu/hr, kWatts, and tons) that the system can provide to the building during hot summer time for each case study. Total Cooling Capacity of the system under these two scenarios have been calculated using standardized equations which account for latent and sensible cooling achieved. The experimental results are then compared to building cooling load coefficients generated with a simulation using the TRACE 700 software package. Thermal environmental comfort conditions for human occupancy are also evaluated using American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standard 55-2004. We propose a generalised diffusion-based file replication scheme for load balancing in unstructured P2P file-sharing networks. The generalised method is derived by replacing the replication probability of a peer used in our previous study with a new expression. In the previous expression, the replication probability is defined to be proportional to the difference between its own load and the average load of its neighbour peers. We show here that the replication probability can instead be expressed as a simple average of one defined to be negatively proportional to its own load and one defined to be proportional to the average load of its neighbour peers. The generalised method (a) includes the above three methods as special cases, (b) can control the trade-off between search and load balancing performances, (c) has a physical analogy to diffusion phenomena, and (d) achieves a good balance in the trade-off differently from our previous method. This research proposes a scheme of area calculation system, focusing on image warping to top view. The sensor attached to camera is used to compensate the camera's orientation in real time. One constraint is that the calculated area is planar surface. In practice, the alignment of sensor and camera is imperfect. This error makes the calculated area size inaccurate. Therefore, calibration between camera and sensor is required by using Iterative Least Square method. Then, the extrinsic parameters derived from calibrated sensor and pre-computed intrinsic parameter will be used to generate a homography matrix. In top view image, we can directly count the number of target pixel. Finally, we will also find the relationship between rotation angle and size of each pixel in real-world unit with calculating percentage accuracy of this method. The experimental results show top view target area size generated from the tilted camera using information from the orientation sensor in real time. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a tree search approach to generate and evaluate cooprative behavior online in multiagent systems. It was difficult to apply a tree search methodology to tasks that the state-action space is continuous and requires realtimeness. However, it has become possible to apply such an approach since the computational resources became more powerful today. We applied a tree search method to the Robo Cup soccer 2D simulation and analyzed its effect by evaluating the team performance.

Though centrality of vertices in social networks has been extensively studied, all past efforts assume that centrality of a vertex solely depends on the structural properties of graphs. However, with the emergence of online "semantic" social networks where vertices have properties (e.g. gender, age, and other demographic data) and edges are labeled with relationships (e.g. friend, follows) and weights (measuring the strength of a relationship), it is essential that we take semantics into account when measuring centrality. Moreover, the centrality of a vertex should be tied to a diffusive property in the network - a Twitter vertex may have high centrality w.r.t. jazz, but low centrality w.r.t. Republican politics. In this paper, we propose a new notion of diffusion centrality (DC) in which semantic aspects of the graph, as well as a diffusion model of how a diffusive property p is spreading, are used to characterize the centrality of vertices. We present a hyper graph based algorithm to compute DC and report on a prototype implementation and experiments showing how we can compute DCs (using real YouTube data) on social networks in a reasonable amount of time. We compare DC with classical centrality measures like degree, closeness, betweenness, eigenvector and stress centrality and show that in all cases, DC produces higher quality results. DC is also often faster to compute than both betweenness, closeness and stress centrality, but slower than degree and eigenvector centrality.

Self-organizing network (SON), which is an essential technology of future radio networks, is proposed in the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) specification as a usage case. In this paper, we focus on user equipment (UE)'s power control considering interference mitigation and retransmission constraints especially for physical random access channel (PRACH) of LTE. When a UE initially accesses an evolved-NodeB (eNB), it sends a preamble with an initial access level, and raises the power by a fixed step whenever the preamble was not detected by the eNB. We present an analysis and simulation to study the tradeoff relationship between inter-cell interference and retransmission according to the PRACH power setting, i.e., the initial target received power and power ramping step, assuming Rayleigh fading channels. Furthermore, we propose an algorithm tracing the optimal power setting that minimizes the resource wastage of the cell in consideration and its adjacent cells satisfying the constraint of retransmission and failure probability bound.

In this paper, we study multicast capacity for cognitive networks. We consider the cognitive network model consisting of two overlapping ad hoc networks, called the primary ad hoc network (PaN) and secondary ad hoc network (SaN), respectively. PaN and SaN operate on the same space and spectrum. For PaN (or SaN, respectively), we assume that primary (or secondary, respectively) nodes are placed according to a Poisson point process of intensity n (or m, respectively) over a unit square region. We randomly choose n s (or m s , respectively) nodes as the sources of multicast sessions in PaN (or SaN, respectively), and for each primary source vp (or secondary source v s , respectively), we pick uniformly at random nd primary nodes (or md secondary nodes, respectively) as the destinations of v p (or v s , respectively). Above all, we assume that PaN can adopt the optimal protocol in terms of the throughput. Our main work is to design the multicast strategy for SaN by which the optimal throughput can be achieved, without any negative impact on the throughput for PaN in order sense. Depending on nd and n, we choose the optimal one for PaN from two strategies called percolation strategy and connectivity strategy, respectively. Subsequently, we design the corresponding throughput-optimal strategy for SaN. We derive the regimes in terms of n, n d , m, and m d in which the upper bounds on multicast capacities for PaN and SaN can be achieved simultaneously. Unicast and broadcast capacities for the cognitive network can be derived by our results as the special cases by letting n d = 1 (or m d = 1) and n d = n - 1 (or m d = m - 1), respectively, which enhances the generality of this work.

The objective of this research was to design and implement a new ultrasonic pulse-power-decay technique that transmits multiple ultrasound pulses through slurry to determine the lowest concentration that can provide an accurate attenuation measurement. A wide measurement range is obtained using the pulsed-power-decay transmission technique, and regardless of the material used to construct the container. A signal in the receiver transducer provides the attenuation measurements, for each echo, a fast Fourier transform (FFT) of the appropriate signal was obtained and compared with the water signals to yield the attenuation as a function of frequency. The data show the feasibility of measuring a kaolin concentration of 5% wt. When using a commercial pulser with the same device setting, no detectable echo was observed. Therefore, new technique measurements may prove useful in detecting solid content in liquid. This study demonstrated that the proposed pulsed-power transmission technique is promising for evaluating low concentrations of solids in fluids and for measuring sedimentation in solid-liquid systems.
