With the development of information technologies and increase scale of digital resources, personalized recommendation systems have come into the big picture of web2.0 technology. This paper proposed a graph-based recommendation algorithm using the user-resource rating data to construct a graph model and improves the model by adding user background information. The Random Walk with Restarts algorithm is applied to generate the final recommendation set. The improvement in accuracy on sparse data is illustrated by the experiments on the Movie Lens data set, comparing with the collaborative filtering algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

3DV quality model based depth maps for view synthesis in FTV system

Depth maps are used for synthesis virtual view in free-viewpoint television （FTV） systems. When depth maps are derived using existing depth estimation methods, the depth distortions will cause undesirable artifacts in the synthesized views. To solve this problem, a 3D video quality model base depth maps （D-3DV） for virtual view synthesis and depth map coding in the FTV applications is proposed. First, the relationships between distortions in coded depth map and rendered view are derived. Then, a precisely 3DV quality model based depth characteristics is develop for the synthesized virtual views. Finally, based on D-3DV model, a multilateral filtering is applied as a pre-processed filter to reduce rendering artifacts. The experimental results evaluated by objective and subjective methods indicate that the proposed D-3DV model can reduce bit-rate of depth coding and achieve better rendering quality.

A passive image steganalysis method is proposed to universally detect spatial-domain steganography schemes. It is shown to have better performance than universal steganalyzers known to be powerful in spatial domain, including the WFLogSv and the WAM methods. This level of accuracy is the result of improving the WFLogSv steganalyzer by considering a more comprehensive relationship between the singular values of each image block and the linear correlation of the rows and the columns. That is, instead of the closeness of the lower singular values to zero, the energy distribution of the singular values is investigated. An innovative measure is proposed for this investigation, which is inspired from arithmetic mean-geometric mean inequality. Experimental results confirm the supremacy of the proposed steganalysis scheme over its counterparts.

A passive universal image steganalysis method is proposed that is shown to be of higher detection accuracy than existing truly blind steganalysis methods including Farid's and the WAM. This is achieved by improving some weaknesses of Farid's steganalysis scheme in feature extraction, that is, instead of deriving an over-determined equation system for each sub band of the wavelet decomposition, the sub bands are divided into overlapping blocks and an over-determined equation system is constructed for each block. To guarantee the existence of finite answers, the over-determined equation systems are solved in a way different from Farid's by using Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse concept. Further improvement to the performance is achieved by adding diagonal directions and increasing the number of moments. The comparative evaluations confirm the superiority of the proposed method over prevalent blind steganalysis schemes. © 2011 IEEE.

Runtime testing is a common way to detect faults during normal system operation. To achieve a specific diagnostic coverage runtime testing is also used in safety critical, automotive embedded systems. In this paper we propose a test architecture to consolidate the hardware resource consumption and timing needs of runtime tests and of application and system tasks in a hard real-time embedded system as applied to the automotive domain. Special emphasis is put to timing requirements of embedded systems with respect to hard real-time and concurrent hardware resource accesses of runtime tests and tasks running on the target system. © 2011 IEEE.

Emerging data centers may host a large number of applications that consume CPU power, memory, and I/O resources. Previous studies focus on the allocation of resources in order to perfectly satisfy the demands seen in the current cycle, and the existing application placement algorithms are all based on applications. The existing application placement algorithms in literature assume that the consumption of system resources is proportional to the level of workloads submitted to the system. In this paper, we revealed that it may not be the case in some circumstances. Based on this observation, we design and implement an application placement framework, called EAPAC, for data centers. The developed framework is able to judiciously allocate to application servers a proper mixture of different types of application requests as well as an appropriate number of requests in each type. Further, we investigate the issue of resource conflicts among different applications when there exist concurrent requests in the system. We have conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of the developed framework. The experiment results show that compared with the existing studies, EAPAC can improve the performance by 30% in terms of the reply rate. Especially, when there are concurrent requests in the system, the performance can be improved by 100%. © 2011 IEEE.

In this work, we report the characterization results of GaN/4H-SiC heterojunction vertical pn power diode. The diode is realized using four separate epitaxial growth mechanisms: a) direct growth of p-GaN over n-(4H)SiC; b) growth of p-GaN over n-(4H)SiC with AlN as the interface layer; c) growth of p-GaN over n-(4H)SiC with Ga-flux as the interface layer; and d) growth of p-GaN over p-(4H)SiC. The use of less than 2 nm AlN, as the interface material in one of the growth mechanisms is guided from the first principle atomistic simulation study. In all of these four samples, n + -doped (4H)SiC acts as the cathode substrate. For all of the four cases, the metallization for the anode contact is Pd(200 A 0 )/Au(10000 A 0 ) while Ni(1000 A 0 ) is used for the cathode contact. The measured forward drop of the pn diode with AlN as the interface material is found to be around 5.1 V; whereas, it is between 2 V to 3 V for the rest of the three diode samples. The measured reverse-blocking capability of all the four diode samples is found to be greater than 200 V.

Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) employs one control channel for safety-oriented applications and six service channels for non-safety commercial applications. However, most existing multichannel schemes require all neighboring vehicles periodically (e.g. every 100 milliseconds) tune to the control channel for a full update of safety-oriented data before they can switch to the service channels for non-safety services. The safety exchange interval increases with the increase of traffic density. Consequently, under high traffic densities, the service channels are often completely idle while the control channel is congested. We propose a RSU Assisted Multi-channel Coordination MAC (RAMC) protocol that fully utilizes all channels to provide simultaneous safety and non-safety communications. Within the radio range of a roadside unit (RSU), vehicles are free to tune to any service channel. The RSU monitors all the safety messages being transmitted in both the control and service channels. Periodically, the RSU broadcasts a consolidated traffic view report to all neighboring vehicles in all channels. Therefore, a vehicle can operate in a service channel as long as it needs to achieve high throughput for non-safety applications, while maintaining adequate and timely safety awareness. Our simulation results show that the proposed RAMC protocol consistently achieves very high percentage of non-safety usage, while maintaining high safety message delivery ratios in various traffic density conditions. Ad-hoc network is becoming more important in various areas for wireless communications. In the network, routing algorithms have a great influence on the communication performance. To minimize network overheads, this paper proposes a hybrid routing algorithm, Group Hierarchical Routing (GHR), which is a combination of proactive and reactive routing methods. The comparison with other hybrid routing methods shows that GHR has less communication complexities in route discovery and maintenance.

Brain CT images are very useful in diagnosis of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). These images contain too many information. But most of the times, provided information is contaminated by noise and suffer from poor contrast. On the other hand, there are certain parts of the brain image that is really important to radiologist, while other image details are more or less confusing. This sparks the need for customized enhancement of brain CT images. Translation-invariant wavelet transform is being widely used in most of image processing tasks including image enhancement. This transform is calculated with a filter bank algorithm, called algorithme àtrous. In this paper we propose a filter bank structure similar to algorithme àtrous. This structure is more redundant and offers greater selectivity and flexibility to enhance desired features of brain CT images.
