This paper presents a module for Wi-Fi by using system-on-package (SoP) technology. This module is composed of a single-pole-double-throw (SPDT) IC, a power amplifier module (PAM), a Tx low-pass-filter (LPF), a matching stage for a PAM, a Rx band-pass-filter (BPF), and decoupling capacitors to reject DC bias noise. All components are fully embedded in organic substrate in order to implement a slim module. A LPF and a BPF are designed and fabricated by employing chip inductors and chip capacitors. Proto-types of a BPF and a LPF are designed and verified on teflon substrate, and then these are embedded in organic substrate. A PAM and a SPDT IC as active ICs demands bypass capacitors and decoupling capacitors. All passive components have 0.3 mm thickness owing to 0.6 mm × 0.3 mm × 0.3 mm (0603) type and all active components are given as 0.5mm thickness. Organic substrate consists of epoxy and Ajimoto-bonding film (ABF). All components as active ICs and chip capacitors are fully embedded in this substrate. At first, each block is designed and fabricated on the surface of teflon substrate. Each block is embedded in organic substrate after testing. Finally, a fully embedded SoP module is simulated and implemented. The size of implemented module is given as 7.0 mm × 9.0 mm × 0.65 mm. In case of measurement for a BPF, insertion loss is less than 1.6 dB and return loss is more than 16.0 dB in pass band. In case of Tx, insertion loss is less than 0.45 dB and the return loss is more than 23.3 dB. A Tx path which includes a LPF, SPDT IC, and PAM is measured. The measured adjacent-channel ratios (ACPRs) at first and second side-lobe are -34.3 dBc and -55.1 dBc, respectively. Gain and P1dB are 24 dB and 23dBm, respectively. © 2010 EuMA.

Mobile WiMAX access network is being developed to support various multimedia services such as mobile Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), mobile Video-on-Demand (VoD), and mobile internet services. This mobile network is a shared radio medium which utilizes a point-to-multipoint method, where one base station (BS) can be connected to many mobile stations (MS). That is to say that a mobile IPTV viewer can join a specific multicast group over mobile WiMAX access network, while others, at the same time, are able to receive the same program channel, even though they do not belong to the same multicast group. This, however, is different from the traditional Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) version, used for IPTV services, in network layer which does not allow immediate program channel sharing. This is because the Connection ID (CID) is required before the Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS) can transmit its service flows in mobile WiMAX. Therefore, in this case, viewers always need to perform two processes before they are able to view the program channels, i.e. performing the IGMP join/leave at network layer and obtaining the CID at Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. This paper propose a new extended IGMP protocol which can be used in mobile WiMAX radio access network especially for mobile IPTV services to reduce the channel change time on the network.

The paper deals with the experimental implementation of a test method to perform the dynamic characterization of the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). This test method is based on the experimental detection of the Zero Crossing Time Sequence (ZCTS) into the resulting signal difference between the DAC output and the auxiliary reference one. From the ZCTS the numerical procedure reconstructs in the time domain and analyzes in the frequency domain the non-uniformly sampled output signal of the DAC. Advantageous aspect for the experimental implementation is the fact that the ZCTS can be detected by high speed low resolution ADC. The paper is focused on the experimental set up of the measurement station, the solutions to obtain the reference signal and the requirements to acquire the resulting signal with the proper resolution in order to detect the ZCTS. The results of the experimental tests carried out on the output section of 12 bit waveform generator are presented.

A doubly - fed induction generator (DFIG) system is presented in terms of its natural and power variables as the state variables. The natural variables are the electromagnetic torque (T e ), the reactive torque (T r ), the magnitude of rotor flux linkage (λ r ), the magnitude of stator flux linkage (λ s ), and the rotor speed (ω). These are used in modelling the induction machine and the machine side converter (MSC) of the system. The real power (P f ) and reactive power (Q f ) that the grid side converter (GSC) exchanges with the grid make up the power variables of the system and are used to model the GSC. Simulation of the dynamic natural variable model of the induction machine is carried out and the results are compared with a conventional induction machine simulation technique. Steady state analysis is presented for various power factor operations. A method of predicting an optimal stator power factor operation is proposed.

Shorted stator induction generator (IG) is presented for low wind speed power application. An analytical model is derived for predicting electrical performance of the generator while operating in regions 1 and 2 of turbine power versus wind speed curve. This paper determines an explicit optimal stator electrical speed of operation since the stator is disconnected from synchronism with the grid. A vector control scheme is developed for the IG. Simulation and experimental results are presented for a 5hp machine.

Fast and flexible walking is necessary for hu-manoid robots in the Robocup soccer competition. Instability is one of the major defects in humanoid robots. Recently, various methods on the stability and reliability of humanoid robots have been actively studied. We propose a new fuzzy-logic control scheme that would enable the robot to realize flexible walking or turning with high standard of stability by restricting the step length and inclining the body of robot to an appropriate extent. In this paper, a stabilization algorithm is proposed using the balance condition of the robot, which is measured using accelerometer sensors during standing, walking, and turning movement are estimated from these data. From this information the robot selects the proper motion pattern effectively. In order to generate the proper reaction under various the body of robot situations, a fuzzy algorithm is applied in finding the proper angle of the joint. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by walking, turning tap and ball kicking movement experiments on a 18-DOFs humanoid robot, called EFuRIO.

We report here, the results of molecular dynamics simulation of p-doped (Ga-face)GaN over n-doped (Siface)(0001)4H-SiC hetero-epitaxial material system with one-layer each of Ga-flux and (Al-face)AlN, as the interface materials, in the form of, the total Density of States (DOS). It is found that the total DOS at the Fermi-level for the heavily p-doped (Ga-face)GaN and ndoped (Si-face)4H-SiC hetero-epitaxial system, with one layer of (Al-face)AlN as the interface material, is comparatively higher than that of the various cases studied, indicating that there could be good vertical conduction across the (Ga-face)GaN over (Si-face)(0001)4HSiC hetero-epitaxial material system.

IEEE 802.16m, also known as the WirelessMAN-Advanced air interface, system adopts a random access using CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)-based random access and message-based random access. The message-based random access is intended to reduce access delay when random access load is low. However, CDMA-based random access is used as random access load increases due to failure of message-based random access. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the enhanced random access in the IEEE 802.16m system which supports message-based random access in addition to CDMA-based random access. The analysis and numerical results help understand the performance of random access in IEEE 802.16m with low delay and low collision probability.
