An 81.6 GOPS object recognition processor based on memory-centric NoC (MC-NoC) is implemented in a 0.18-mum CMOS technology. The MC-NoC facilitates data transactions among 10 SIMD processing elements (PEs) by exploiting 8 visual image processing (VIP) memories. The 10 PEs implement special SIMD instructions to perform Gaussian filtering at 16 GOPS. The 8 VIP memories provide one cycle local maximum pixels search operation performing 65.6 GOPS. The chip dissipates 1.4 W at 200 MHz operating frequency.

Using a rigorous electrodynamic approach, the spectra of the terahertz response of periodically ordered arrays of field-effect transistors with two-dimensional electron channel were calculated. This paper is concerned with the development of a novel color image thresholding technique using fuzzy thresholding and Dempster-Shaferpsilas theory based fusion. The color bands of a given image are fuzzified by means of a fuzzy thresholding technique which uses an S-shape membership function and a linear index of fuzziness based fuzzy measure. The resulting fuzzy maps are used to determine the mass functions of the hypotheses representing the classes for each pixel. These hypotheses are then combined using the orthogonal sum rule of the Dempster-Shafer theory to compute the final threshold map. The results show that the proposed algorithm yields a superior performance to its counterpart methods which are based on crisp and fuzzy techniques.

Sphere decoding enables maximum likelihood (ML) detection with fairly low complexity in the MIMO wireless systems, but it takes hundreds cycles at low SNR environment. This paper proposes a fast decoding algorithm to reduce the decoding cycles using look-ahead search. Since the proposed decoding algorithm utilizes hardware resources to add other sub-trees into the search space successively, it helps not to go down into the sub-tree that has a small value at the root node but has large values at the child nodes. Scaling and enumeration techniques are also presented, which are effective in implementing the proposed sphere decoder. As a result, the proposed decoder saves about 30% decoding cycles at the cost of small hardware overhead compared to the conventional decoder.

The objective of this paper is to develop a power converter module that charges a battery with solar power, and the design technique at the product level is introduced to realize a compact size and light weight. The main circuit is a buck-boost chopper so that it can cover wide range of charging voltage. The MPPT control is realized by a very simple algorithm of Limit-Cycle MPPT (LCMPPT) proposed by authors previously. All control functions are implemented in digital algorithm and a HITACHI H8 microprocessor is used for the control. In addition to the battery, a load can be directly connected also, which is automatically disconnected in the case of detecting a low voltage condition of the battery. RS-232C port is also available for observing the internal variables such a input/output voltages and currents through a PC. An example of obtained test results showing the relations of output power versus input/output voltages and efficiency are given. The efficiency is about 70-72% in a wide range of output power.© 2008 IEEE.

Wireless meshing has been envisioned as the economically viable networking paradigm to build up broadband and large-scale wireless commodity networks. Several different mesh network architectures have been conceived by both industry and academia; however many issues on the deployment of efficient and fair transport protocols are still open. In this paper, an adaptive and responsive transport protocol (AR- TP) is proposed for WMNs in order to fairly allocate the network resources among multiple flows, while minimizing the performance overhead. Compared to the classical end-to-end rate control mechanisms, an hop-by-hop congestion control approach is designed to keep track of dynamic multi-hop network characteristics in a responsive manner. In addition, a coarse-grained end-to-end reliability algorithm is integrated with the proposed hop-by-hop congestion control mechanism to provide packet level reliability at the transport layer. Performance evaluation via extensive simulation experiments show that the AR-TP protocol achieves high performance in terms of network throughput and fairness.

This paper describes the design and implementation of software architecture for Linux-based mobile terminals supporting interworking between CDMA and WiBro. The software architecture includes network switching controller which controls the network switching procedure among other modules and multi-option network selection algorithm. The software architecture also includes function which provides network transparency to the higher network layer and mobile IPv4 based mobility function. The implemented software architecture is designed to have expandability in each function and easily applied to the terminal with more than two networks. The procedures and functions of software architecture are verified by interworking with the multimedia application program.

This paper describes the design and implementations of the application service based on embedded Linux; personal voice recorder (PVR) which uses WiBro network for data communications and CDMA network for voice communications. PVR consists of client and server. PVR client send CDMA voice data to PVR server located in the Internet through WiBro network. Then, PVR server converts voice data to wave form and stores it. In case of shortage of storage space on terminal, PVR makes user to store voice data.

Robots are complex systems that require multidisciplinary approach to development. Hence, both research and production of a robotic system require a tool that would provide means for coordination between teams with different areas of expertise as well as the ability to integrate, simulate and debug the system in a comprehensive way. Also, with the growing popularity of service robotics, research and modeling of human-machine interaction gains the attention. From a simulation tool, it is expected to support the means for describing this interaction. For that purpose we are investigating the ML Designer TM , not just as a possible simulation tool, but also as a modeling and design paradigm. For verification purposes we will compare it against MATLAB Simulink TM . A pneumatic system will be modeled with both tools and a comparison will be performed.
