We propose a hardware/software co-design framework, which leverages hardware-aware quantization and a reconfigurable processor to improve the computational efficiency of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) on tiny IoT devices based on reconfigurable platforms. Firstly, we proposed a multi-objective optimization value function that can weigh accuracy, the size of CNN models, and computational delay, to improve the efficiency of the mixed- precision quantization algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning. Secondly, we propose a reconfigurable CNN processor that can adapt to the computing characteristics of various quantized CNN models, as well as a reconfigurable computing array and an on-chip elastic buffer, to improve the performance and computing efficiency on edge equipment. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed co-design method through an extensive evaluation of the Ultra96-V2 platform. With respect to the well-known CNNs—VGG-16, ResNet-50, and MobileNet-V2, the experimental result shows that the throughput of 216.6 GOPS, 214.0 GOPS, and 53.6 GOPS, the computing efficiency of 0.63GOPS/DSP, 0.64GOPS/DSP, and 0.24 GOPS/DSP, respectively. In addition, achieving a better optimized trade-off between the computing efficiency and accuracy compared with the recently proposed CNN processor with fixed bit-width and mixed-precision.

The world migration towards automatic and wire-less systems results an increased usage of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The noticeable popularity of WSNs has imposed enlarged computational in-node demands. Hence, the recourse to fully-integrated and sophisticated systems with low power is a challenging task. Since wireless sensor nodes have limited power resources, it is important to find a balance between energy consumption and computational performance. The traditional software optimizations are not usually suited or enough to find this tradeoff. Consequently, the use of codesign methodology and the careful implementation of hardware accelerator with low frequency processors could offer a good compromise between energy consumption and performance. In this paper, we present a SoC WSN node prototype based on Leon 3 processor for leak detection in water pipeline using Kalman Filter (KF). A hardware acceleration of the KF has been designed and implemented to reduce energy consumption. We have compared also the software implementation of the algorithm and its hardware acceleration in terms of the execution time, the energy consumption and the area requirements. The results show about 97% reduction in energy consumption and execution time without noticeable increased area. © 2019 IEEE.

Finite time anti-synchronization of complex-valued neural networks with bounded asynchronous time-varying delays

In this paper, we studied the finite time anti-synchronization of master-slave coupled complex-valued neural networks (CVNNs) with bounded asynchronous time-varying delays. With the decomposing technique and the generalized {ξ, ∞}-norm, several criteria for ensuring the finite-time anti-synchronization are obtained. The whole anti-synchronization process can be divided into two parts: first, the norm of each error state component will change from initial values to 1 in finite time, then from 1 to 0 in fixed time. Therefore, the whole time is finite. Finally, one typical numerical example is presented to demonstrate the correctness of our obtained results. Hierarchical attention generative adversarial networks for cross-domain sentiment classification

Cross-domain sentiment classification (CDSC) is an importance task in domain adaptation and sentiment classification. Due to the domain discrepancy, a sentiment classifier trained on source domain data may not works well on target domain data. In recent years, many researchers have used deep neural network models for cross-domain sentiment classification task, many of which use Gradient Reversal Layer (GRL) to design an adversarial network structure to train a domain-shared sentiment classifier. Different from those methods, we proposed Hierarchical Attention Generative Adversarial Networks (HAGAN) which alternately trains a generator and a discriminator in order to produce a document representation which is sentimentdistinguishable but domain-indistinguishable. Besides, the HAGAN model applies Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (Bi-GRU) to encode the contextual information of a word and a sentence into the document representation. In addition, the HAGAN model use hierarchical attention mechanism to optimize the document representation and automatically capture the pivots and non-pivots. Person re-identification, as the basic task of a multi-camera surveillance system, plays an important role in a variety of surveillance applications. However, the current mainstream person re-identification model based on deep learning requires a lot of labeled data, which takes a lot of time and manpower. In this study, we proposed a person re-identification method based on random occlusion recovery with noise channel. We add random occlusion blocks to the original image, use the GAN model for repair, and use the repaired image to expand the original training set. After that, the generated image is adjusted through the noise channel. Finally, we use the enhanced data set to train the baseline model. Our model achieves the state-of-the-art on Market-1501 dataset, proving that the method is effective. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

User behavioral analysis is expected to act as a promising technique for identity theft detection in the Internet. The performance of this paradigm extremely depends on a good individual-level user behavioral model. Such a good model for a specific behavior is often hard to obtain due to the insufficiency of data for this behavior. The insufficiency of specific data is mainly led by the prevalent sparsity of users’ collectable behavioral footprints. This work aims to address whether it is feasible to effectively detect identify thefts by jointly using multiple unreliable behavioral models from sparse individual-level records. We focus on this issue in mobile social networks (MSNs) with multiple dimensions of collectable but sparse data of user behavior, i.e., making check-ins, posing tips and forming friendships. Based on these sparse data, we build user spatial distribution model, user post interest model and user social preference model, respectively. Here, as the arguments, we validate that there is indeed a complementary effect in multi-dimensional blended behavioral analysis for identity theft detection in MSNs. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been regarded as a promising means to supplement ground communications. As flying relays, UAVs can be rapidly and flexibly deployed to assist data transmissions in many practical scenarios. In this paper, we investigate a two-way multi-hop UAV relaying network, where there are two ground users as sources and multiple UAVs as relays to help the two ground sources exchange information. We first provide an efficient two-way multi-hop UAV relaying pattern, which can achieve a data rate of 2/4 data packets per time slot with decode-and-forward (DF) protocol. Then, we further formulate a joint transmit power and trajectory optimization problem for the UAVs in this two-way multi-hop relaying scenario. The formulated problem is non-convex which makes it difficult to solve directly, hence we propose an iterative algorithm to obtain an approximate optimal solution. Numerical results demonstrate that our proposed network achieves significant throughput gains.

A personal assistance, is a software component offering advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) features by initiating and making a "conversations" between humans and machines. Its main objective is to identify the sentences and the context from human's question and respectively give an adequate response to the question posed. The proper response is given after analyzing the words of the question with those registered in its database. This type of application is called a personal assistant - chatbot. In this work, such an application is presented where it can be installed in any smart home as well as assisted living environment. Through the application, all automations, as well as the home robot also, are controlled by human voice in Greek language. Also, a number of auxiliary applications can be performed in the direction of better human service. © 2018 Tei of Western Macedonia.

The evolution of social network and multimedia technologies encourage more and more people to generate and upload visual information, which leads to the generation of large-scale video data. Therefore, preeminent compression technologies are highly desired to facilitate the storage and transmission of these tremendous video data for a wide variety of applications. In this paper, a systematic review of the recent advances for large-scale video compression （LSVC） is presented. Specifically, fast video coding algorithms and effective models to improve video compression efficiency are introduced in detail, since coding complexity and compression efficiency are two important factors to evaluate video coding approaches. Finally, the challenges and fu- ture research trends for LSVC are discussed.

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a widely-adopted optimization algorithm which is based on particles’ fitness evaluations and their swarm intelligence. However, it is difficult to obtain the exact fitness evaluation value and is only able to compare particles in a pairwise manner in many real applications such as dose selection, tournament, crowdsourcing and recommendation. Such ordinal preferences from pairwise comparisons instead of exact fitness evaluations lead the traditional PSO to fail. This paper proposes a particle swarm optimization based on pairwise comparisons. Experiments show that the proposed method enables the traditional PSO to work well by using only ordinal preferences from pairwise comparisons. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.
