Many biologically motivated problems are expressed as dynamic programming recurrences and are difficult to parallelize due to the intrinsic data dependencies in their algorithms. Therefore their solutions have been sped up using task level parallelism only. Emerging platforms such as GPUs are appealing parallel architectures for high-performance;at the same time they are a motivation to rethink the algorithms associated with these problems, to extract finergrained parallelism such as data parallelism. In this paper, we consider the hmmersearch program as a representative of these problems and we re-design its computational algorithm to extract data parallelism for a more efficient execution on emerging platforms, despite the fact that hmmersearch has data dependencies. Our approach outperforms other existing methods when searching a very large database of unsorted sequences on GPUs. Copyright © 2010 ACM.

This article redesigns appraising index and improves its model, since current c2c business credit evaluation index and evaluation model are single standard and easy to calculate. Buyers evaluate sellers on inf.rmation veracity, production quality, service satisfaction and goods delivery. In order to attract buyers to participate in the evaluation, sellers will set incentive mechanism and evaluation index will be designed into questionnaire and be provided to buyers. Credit evaluation model are improved by combining questionnaire score, transaction amount, rate of positive assessments, seller's credit together into consideration. The new evaluation system will enhance satisfaction of buyers and reliability of seller's credit grade. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a data-driven foreground object detection technique which can detect foreground objects from a moving camera. We propose to build a data-driven consensus foreground object template (CFOT) and then detect the foreground object region in each frame. The proposed foreground object detection technique is equipped with the following functions: (1) the ability to detect the foreground object captured by a fast moving camera ; (2) the ability to detect a low contrast (spatially/temporally) foreground object; and (3) the ability to detect a foreground object from a dynamic background. There are three contributions of our method: (1) a newly proposed data-driven foreground region decision process for generating the CFOT has been shown robust and efficient; (2) a foreground object probability is proposed for properly dealing with the imperfect initial foreground region estimations; and (3) a CFOT is generated for precise foreground object detection.

In this paper, we propose a new object detection method that does not need a learning mechanism. Given a hand-drawn model as a query, we can detect and locate objects that are similar to the query model in cluttered images. To ensure the invariance with respect to rotation, scaling, and translation (RST), high curvature points (HCPs) on edges are detected first. Each pair of HCPs is then used to determine a circular region and all edge pixels covered by the circular region are transformed into a polar histogram. Finally, we use these local descriptors to detect and locate similar objects within any images. The experiment results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing state-of-the-art work.

The main disadvantage of LFSR-based compression is that it should be usually combined with a constrained ATPG process, and, as a result, it cannot be effectively applied to IP cores of unknown structure. In this paper, a new LFSR-based compression approach that overcomes this problem is proposed. The proposed method allows each LFSR seed to encode as many slices as possible. For achieving this, a special purpose slice, called stop-slice, that indicates the end of a seed's usage is encoded as the last slice of each seed. Thus, the seeds include by construction the inf.rmation of where they should stop and, for that reason, we call them self-stoppable. A stop-slice generation procedure is proposed that exploits the inherent test set characteristics and generates stop slices which impose minimum compression overhead. Moreover, the architecture for implementing the proposed technique requires negligible additional hardware overhead compared to the standard LFSR-based architecture. The proposed technique is also accompanied by a seed calculation algorithm that tries to minimize the number of calculated seeds.

Workflow process mining technology is not a tool of workflow design, but it is very useful for understanding the current business processes. Workflow process mining does well in knowledge management and decision-making support. The dynamic flow control and fuzziness make the old methods that analysis the performance of workflow not applicable. In order to solve the problem a new workflow process mining algorithm is presented.

Since the multi-rate enhancements have been implemented in wireless ad hoc networks (MANETs), QoS-constrained multicast protocols for multimedia communication should be adapted to exploit them fully for using more efficiently the limited resources. To build a multicast tree with delay-guaranteed, one-hop delay and end-to-end delay must be known. The one-hop delay is the transmission time at a given link connecting two neighboring hosts, and the end-to-end delay is the time taken for a data packet from a specific source to reach the destination node. However, how to calculate the above two delays using the IEEE 802.11 MAC is still a challenging problem, because the radio channel is shared among neighbors. Further, the multi-rate enhancements make it more difficult since the neighboring relation among hosts is varied with the transmission rates. In this paper, we first propose a method to estimate the one-hop delay based on varied transmission rates by monitoring the sensed busy/idle ratio of shared channel. Then, by its aid, another method is proposed to compute the end-to-end delay. Finally, we integrate the above two methods with a typical multicast routing protocol, ODMRP, for constructing a delay-guaranteed multicast protocol. Simulation results show that the proposed method obtains more precise one-hop delay than a very recently work. Besides, the integrated protocol provides better delay guarantee than the existing protocol when the multicast traffic has delay requirement.

Visual attention region determination simulates the behavior of the human visual system and determines visual attention regions in an image. In this study, a visual attention region determination approach using low-level features, including luminance, color, and region inf.rmation, is proposed. First, the contrast map is attained by computing the contrast between each pixel and its ldquothresholdingrdquo neighboring pixels in eight directions, based on the just noticeable difference (JND) model. Then, the block-based edge map and standard deviation representation are used to generate the region mask. The saliency map is obtained by using the contrast map and the region mask. Finally, a visual attention region determination scheme is presented to determine visual attention region(s) in the image. Based on the experimental results obtained in this study, the proposed approach has better performance than two comparison approaches.
