Efficient energy management is a cornerstone of advancing cognitive cities,where AI,IoT,and cloud computing seamlessly integrate to meet escalating global energy *** this context,the ability to forecast electricity consumption with precision is vital,particularly in residential settings where usage patterns are highly variable and *** study presents an innovative approach to energy consumption forecasting using a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)*** a dataset containing over twomillionmultivariate,time-series observations collected froma single household over nearly four years,ourmodel addresses the limitations of traditional time-series forecasting methods,which often struggle with temporal dependencies and non-linear *** bidirectional LSTM architecture processes data in both forward and backward directions,capturing past and future contexts at each time step,whereas existing unidirectional LSTMs consider only a single temporal *** design,combined with dropout regularization,leads to a 20.6%reduction in RMSE and an 18.8%improvement in MAE over conventional unidirectional LSTMs,demonstrating a substantial enhancement in prediction accuracy and *** to existing models—including SVM,Random Forest,MLP,ANN,and CNN—the proposed model achieves the lowest MAE of 0.0831 and RMSE of 0.2213 during testing,significantly outperforming these *** results highlight the model’s superior ability to navigate the complexities of energy usage patterns,reinforcing its potential application in AI-driven IoT and cloud-enabled energy management systems for cognitive *** integrating advanced machine learning techniqueswith IoT and cloud infrastructure,this research contributes to the development of intelligent,sustainable urban environments.

The current paper proposes a new approach for peripheral speech emotion analysis and gender estimation incorporating the best machine learning architectures such as CNNs and LSTMs. Its correct depiction of emotions and the variation of the gendered speech to indicate manifold signal-to-noise ratio make the approach accommodate the difficulty inherent in recognizing emotions from the recording of voices as well as predicting the gender of a speaker. It is then able to ally with preprocessing and collection of a vast range of different speech samples, feature extraction of pitch, tone and spectral data. These features serve as input to the CNNs and LSTMs: LSTMs work well at temporal regular features and the CNNs work well in feature extraction by location (spatio feature). The approach is tested on the RAVDESS and IEMOCAP datasets and establishes a near perfect match to prior approaches with reference to recognition accuracy of emotion analysis and gender prediction. Thus, applying the identified dual method approach, which could be described by such characteristics as highly accurate data pre-preprocessing, clear indication of the features of interest, a different CNN-LSTM model joint training, it offers a reasonably good platform to gain certain insights into such characteristics of the speech as our experiment demonstrates. This work offers satisfactory configurations on concerns such as human computer relation, customer relation and mental health surveillance to suggest that other applications could be achieved in future. © 2025 IEEE.

Supervised learning applied to electrocardiogram statistical features for the detection of premature ventricular contraction

Purpose: The development of an automated premature ventricular contraction (PVC) detection system has significant implications for early intervention and treatment decisions. This study aims to develop a novel approach using various supervised machine learning (ML) methods for detecting PVCs in electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings. Methodology: To achieve this, we extracted ten distinct statistical and temporal features from 33 long-term ECG recordings from the benchmark MIT-BIH arrhythmia database (MIT-BIH-AD), capturing significant characteristics from the signals. We then investigated the effectiveness of traditional ML algorithms in identifying PVCs based on these features, namely support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), naïve Bayes (NB), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and artificial neural network (ANN). Results: Among these classifiers, the SVM, KNN, ANN, and DT classifiers demonstrated exceptional discriminatory power and classification performance, yielding near-perfect area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) values of 97.3%, 95.4%, 95%, and 94.1%, respectively. On the other hand, the SVM classifier emerged as the most accurate, achieving an overall accuracy of 97.39%, indicative of making correct predictions. Conclusion: These findings underscore the generalization of the proposed approach, especially since we worked on an extended dataset encompassing different types of heartbeats to discriminate PVCs from other heartbeat types, not only normal ones, and providing closer alignment with real-world scenarios. Subsequently, the robustness and accuracy of these models highlight their suitability for clinical applications and their potential for efficient implementation and deployment in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), as they demand minimal computational resources and time. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2025.

The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has dramatically altered Customer Relationship Management (CRM) by allowing organizations to anticipate customer behavior, customize interactions and automate service delivery. This research introduces an extensive AI-based predictive analytics framework aimed at improving customer engagement, retention and satisfaction using advanced Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) methodologies. By using XGBoost for churn prediction and BERT-based models for sentiment analysis, the system efficiently handles both structured and unstructured customer data. The methodology involves sophisticated feature engineering, customer segmentation via K-Means clustering, and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) prediction to aid data-driven business strategies. An NLP-driven chatbot offers real-time, personalized support, response time and improving user experience. Evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score demonstrate the better performance of the proposed system compared to conventional CRM approaches. This work also addresses important issues such as data privacy compliance, algorithmic bias and explainability of AI decision-making. Ethical deployment and transparency of AI are emphasized for building confidence in automated CRM systems. Future evolution will tackle the use of reinforcement learning to facilitate learning-based interaction schemes and federated learning for trusted, decentralized management of data. This architecture does not only provide better CRM functionality but also builds a platform towards intelligent, responsible and scalable solutions for customer relations across industries. © (2025), (Science and Information Organization). In this study we propose and evaluate AtheroRisk, a standalone integrated computer software system for the analysis of carotid B-mode ultrasound (U/S) images and videos. Our goal was to provide a tool to help physicians stratify stroke risk. The presented system is based on outcomes from different research studies, as well as European guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of carotid artery disease. The goal is to enable reproducible analysis of atherosclerotic plaques in real time. AtheroRisk brings together analysis of U/S image and/or video of the carotid arteries facilitating anonymization, standardization, noise filtering and segmentation of plaques;followed by image and motion feature extraction to derive plaque-composition and stability. All the above steps are combined to determine the annual stroke risk rate and the 5-year stroke-free survival rate. The system is powered by an SQLite local database, in which the end user can save and manage data extracted from processing and analysis in an anonymized way. The first version of AtheroRisk was developed following an incremental software development process. The developed system was verified using 54 U/S videos (27 Asymptomatic, AS;27 Symptomatic, SY cases) while the clinician’s satisfaction and comments were collected through a questionnaire-based validation process. The results show that the integrated system proposed in this study can be successfully used for the automated image and video analysis of the CCA plaque in ultrasound videos. © The Author(s) 2025.

Optimized Metamaterials for Design of Enhanced-Performance High Order Mode Dipole-Driven Yagi-Uda Antenna for Millimeter Wave Applications

This paper presents the development of a Yagi antenna optimized for third-order mode operation within the millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum. A third-order mode driven dipole, along with a reflector, is introduced to enhance the antenna’s gain. The rigorous numerical optimization procedure was employed to precisely adjust the dimensions and positions of the driven dipole, director, and reflectors. The optimized Yagi antenna operates within the fifth generation (5G) band at 28 GHz, with a bandwidth of 2.6 GHz. Radiation pattern analysis indicates that the gain of the antenna in this higher resonant mode exceeds that of a conventional Yagi-Uda antenna, achieving a gain of 9.35 dBi at 28 GHz. To further increase the gain and address the path loss challenges in the mmWave spectrum, a near-zero index metamaterial (NZIM) array was integrated. A 5 x 5 unit cell array was embedded into the same antenna substrate, positioned in front of the reflector. The metamaterial array was optimized using the trust-region (TR) algorithm, resulting in a significant gain enhancement, reaching 13.8 dBi at 28 GHz while maintaining the operational bandwidth in terms of impedance matching. The antenna was subsequently fabricated and tested, with experimental results demonstrating a strong correlation with the simulated outcomes across all key parameters. © 2013 IEEE.

Identifying pavement damage is a crucial component in road maintenance and infrastructure management. Prompt detection and corrective action of pavement defects can prevent severe deterioration, maintain safety, and prolong the useful life of road infrastructure. computer vision is widely applied to vehicle applications, such as driver assistance and self-driving, and that is a good platform to equip the pavement damage recognition service. Therefore, this work applies computer vision to develop the pavement damage detection service named high-performance pavement health recognition (HPPH) to detect common pavement damages, including longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, alligator cracks, and potholes. The proposed HPPH can be deployed on a vehicle for regular road detection. To fit the requirements of vehicle applications, HPPH considers state-of-the-art techniques to optimize the performance of the recognition service on vehicles, e.g., DeepStream is applied to increase the inference performance. At the same time, YOLOv8s (You Only Look Once, YOLO) provides real-time inference. The experimental results reveal that HPPH provides an accuracy of 90.3% and an average precision 0.5 of 74.3%. Moreover, the optimized HPPH provides three times better than the pure YOLOv8s in terms of the inference speed. In summary, the proposed HPPH provides high recognition accuracy with high efficiency and is feasible to be applied to vehicle applications to realize distributed road maintenance. © 2025 IEEE.

PURPOSE: Deep learning is promising for enabling accurate and automatic prostate segmentation. Existing deep learning segmentation model approaches often rely on large training datasets for good generalization. We aim to adapt pre-trained foundation models to enable accurate, data-efficient, and robust prostate segmentation. METHODS: We adapt the promptable foundation model SAM1 for prostate segmentation on rotational micro-ultrasound scans2 of the prostate. We design novel prompting strategies to provide the model with enhanced 3D context awareness to improve segmentation. RESULTS: Our model, which we call SliceTrack-SAM, outperforms prior state-of-the-art in micro-ultrasound prostate segmentation. We achieve a Dice coefficient of 94.0% and Hausdorff distance 1.76 mm on the MicroSegNet dataset. Qualitative analysis and ablation studies further validate the success of our approach. CONCLUSION: Transfer learning from pre-trained foundation models can alleviate the challenge of data scarcity and improve the generalization of medical imaging deep learning systems. Prompts provide a flexible and effective way to leverage auxiliary information, such as 3D context, when using these models. © 2025 SPIE.
