Computational Performance of a LES Solver for Supersonic Jet Flow Applications

An in-house large eddy simulation tool is developed in order to reproduce high fidelity results of compressible jet flows. The large eddy simulation formulation is written using the finite difference approach, with an explicit time integration and using a second order spatial discretization. The energy equation is carefully discretized in order to model the energy equation of the filtered Navier-Stokes formulation. Such numerical studies are very expensive and demand high performance computing. Message passage interface protocols are implemented into the code in order to perform parallel computations. The present work addresses the computational performance of the solver running on up to 400 processors in parallel. Different mesh configurations, whose size varies from approximately 5.9 million points to approximately 1.0 billion points, are evaluate in the current paper. Speedup and efficiency curves are evaluated in order to assess the strong scalability of the solver. © 2023, CC BY.

Current design constraints have encouraged the studies of aeroacoustics fields around compressible jet flows. The present work addresses the numerical study of subgrid scale modeling for unsteady turbulent jet flows as a preliminary step for future aeroacoustic analyses of main engine rocket plumes. An in-house large eddy simulation (LES) tool is developed in order to reproduce high fidelity results of compressible jet flows. In the present study, perfectly expanded jets are considered because the authors want to emphasize the effects of the jet mixing phenomena. The large eddy simulation formulation is written using the finite difference approach, with an explicit time integration and using a second order spatial discretization. The energy equation is carefully discretized in order to model the energy equation of the filtered Navier-Stokes formulation. The classical Smagorinsky model, the dynamic Smagorinsky model and the Vreman models are the chosen subgrid scale closures for the present work. Numerical simulations of perfectly expanded jets are performed and compared with the literature in order to validate and compare the performance of each subgrid closure in the solver. © 2023, CC BY.

The Fractional Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (FNLS) is an equation that is generally used to describe the interaction of boson particles in the trap potential. This paper discusses the stability of the stationary solution of the FNLS (2+1) dimensional equation using the Newton-Raphson method as a method for determining the stationary solution. The stability of the stationary solution of the FNLS is determined by analyzing the distribution of real-part and imaginary-part of eigenvalues listed on the complex plane. The results obtained in this study are found that the solution to the 1-dimensional FNLS is a stable system. This solution is obtained by analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues in the complex plane, where in the solution to the 1-dimensional FNLS there are only imaginary-part eigenvalues without any real-part eigenvalues. Unlike the case with the solution of the 2-dimensional FNLS equation, the eigenvalues obtained have a real-part of eigenvalues. These eigenvalues represent that the solution to the 2-dimensional FNLS equation is an unstable system. It is an indicator that the soliton which is the solution of the FNLS equation for the 2-dimensional case will be damaged for a certain time.

The development of game technology has opened up new possibilities in learning methods through educational games. However, in Indonesia, the application of this concept is lacking. One lesson that can benefit from educational games is Indonesian History in class X, with a focus on history in the pre-literacy period. This study aims to create a puzzle-adventure type of digital game that can help educate students about the pre-literacy period, developed with Unity, and uses WebGL as a target device while referring to Indonesia's revised 2013 national curriculum. The result of this research is the creation of a digital game that can be played on average of 254.36 seconds, with potential for educational use. A survey result shows that many of the ancient objects and some of the ages are well-recognized. However, the survey also shows many of the gameplay aspects, such as UI, gameplay features, and adventure elements, need improvements.

Distance learning is a learning process that allows students and instructors are in different physical locations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, various countries including Indonesia chose the distance learning option to avoid the spread of the pandemic. However, the implementation of distance learning is not without problems. In Indonesia, the problems to implement distance learning are enormous both in terms of equitable distribution of infrastructure and costs for accessing the internet. To overcome these problems, research about best distance learning tools and its implementation strategy is really needed. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the strategies and tools for implementing distance learning that reliable and cost-effective for the student at the same time. Based on research that has been conducted by analyzing questionnaire surveys of 256 students in Indonesia, this research recommends tools combination strategy consists of Google Classroom tool as a learning app, Whatsapp group as broadcast messaging and Zoom as a video conference media for distance learning. This research also recommended to maximize the e-learning/learning app features for theoretical lessons and consider video conference just in practical lessons so that the distance learning costs become cheaper for students. © 2020 International Information and engineering Technology Association. In this research, we have been developed teaching materials for electromagnetics that demonstrate theories using real-world actual applications (capacitors, coils, piezoelectric elements, Wireless Power Transfer(WPT), WiFi, direct-current motor, etc.) presented as animations and video data via Web services. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and JavaScript were used to create the Web services for teaching materials. Recently, the lack of academic ability of Japanese engineering course students has become a large social problem at Japanese higher education. In particular, in the field of electrical engineering education, the visualization and mathematical abilities of students have been declining remarkably. In addition, today's teaching materials for educational institutions in Japan tend to reply primarily on rote learning. However, we consider that rote learning is not the primary method for university education. We tested our new developed materials on students learning motivation of electromagnetics and evaluated their effectiveness with some questionnaires. It was clear that the new teaching method has effectiveness for increasing learning motivation of Electromagnetics. © 2020 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

IT Governance are one of the needs in managing Enterprise Level IT. This study shows part of the decision domain of IT Governance Help, which are IT Investment and Prioritization. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility of implementation open source ERP system Odoo project management module that replaces current system based on operational, economic, and technical aspects. The method used are Fit/Gap Analysis and Cost Benefit model using economic impact worksheet. The analysis is done by comparing the requirement with features owned by current system and Odoo ERP system. This research resulted that Odoo ERP System is feasible in the 3 aspects, the operational feasibility Odoo reaching 72% Fit, the economic feasibility with ROI of 84%, and technical feasibility indicating the technical requirement can be fulfilled by leasing AWS server. The conclusion is the open source ERP system Odoo project management module is feasible to be applied in terms of 3 aspects that have been studied, those are operational, economic, and technical. © 2019 IEEE.

The advent of Internet of Things (IoT) has bring a new era in communication technology by expanding the current inter-networking services and enabling the machine-to-machine communication. IoT massive deployments will create the problem of optimal power allocation. The objective of the optimization problem is to obtain a feasible solution that minimizes the total power consumption of the WSN, when the error probability at the fusion center meets certain criteria. This work studies the optimization of a wireless sensor network (WNS) at higher dimensions by focusing to the power allocation of decentralized detection. More specifically, we apply and compare four algorithms designed to tackle Large scale global optimization (LGSO) problems. These are the memetic linear population size reduction and semi-parameter adaptation (MLSHADE-SPA), the contribution-based cooperative coevolution recursive differential grouping (CBCC-RDG3), the differential grouping with spectral clustering-differential evolution cooperative coevolution (DGSC-DECC), and the enhanced adaptive differential evolution (EADE). To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first time that LGSO algorithms are applied to the optimal power allocation problem in IoT networks. We evaluate the algorithms performance in several different cases by applying them in cases with 300, 600 and 800 dimensions. © 2021, CC BY.

The palm oil business employs almost 20 million people, generates USD 21 billion in revenue, and plays a vital role in Indonesia’s social economy. The Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to Palm Oil Mills (POM) distribution system is one important aspect of fruit quality. Three steps are involved in getting Oil Palm FFB from the plantation to the POM. The first part of the procedure involves cutting FFB from the tree, the second stage involves gathering the fruit at a fruit collection point (FCP), and the third stage involves transporting the fruit to the palm oil mill (POM). As of now, the cost of the FFB transportation is still considerable, accounting for roughly 15% to 20% of the FFB pricing. The use of the Business Intelligence (BI) idea in the oil palm harvesting system is presented in this study as a foundation for creating web-based applications.
