Physiological Biomarkers for Assessment of Pain during Routine Blood Tests for Older Adults with Dementia in Long-Term Residential Care

Objective: Evaluating pain in individuals with dementia can be difficult when verbal communication is limited. Vocalization has emerged as a potential avenue for assessments of pain in nonverbal populations. This study aimed to evaluate if physiological assessments of vocalization were correlated with observational assessments of pain during routine blood tests for persons with dementia. Design: A cross-sectional descriptive study. Setting and Participants: Sixty older adults (aged ≥65 years old) with dementia requiring routine finger puncture and peripheral venipuncture for routine blood tests were recruited by purposive sampling from 3 long-term care facilities in Taiwan. Methods: Observational assessments were conducted with the Pain Assessment in Advanced Dementia (PAINAD) instrument;physiological biomarkers of vocalization were assessed with a noninvasive sensing device and microphone (NISDM). Assessments were conducted simultaneously in one session during situations of increasing pain levels: at rest, making a sound, finger puncture, and peripheral venipuncture. PAINAD scores were compared with signal recording measures from the NISDM. Analysis of variance and Pearson correlation coefficient assessed correlations between observational and physiological measures. Results: Most participants were female (63.3%);mean age was 81.27 years (SD = 9.69);Clinical Dementia Rating was 2.23 ± 0.70;and Mini-Mental State Examination was 7.07 ± 6.95. Signal recording measures using the NISDM during finger puncture and venipuncture were significantly greater compared with measures at rest and making sound, indicating higher signal levels were associated with pain. PAINAD scores were significantly correlated with physiological measures for vocalization variables of sound amplitude (r = 0.49, P <.001), shimmer (r = 0.63, P <.001), and inhalation-to-exhalation amplitude ratio (r = 0.48, P <.001). The precise diagnosis of urinary stones is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies. The diagnostic process, however, is often complicated by the low contrast between stones and surrounding tissues, as well as the variability in stone locations across different patients. To address this issue, we propose a novel location embedding based pairwise distance learning network (LEPD-Net) that leverages low-dose abdominal X-ray imaging combined with location information for the fine-grained diagnosis of urinary stones. LEPD-Net enhances the representation of stone-related features through context-aware region enhancement, incorporates critical location knowledge via stone location embedding, and achieves recognition of fine-grained objects with our innovative fine-grained pairwise distance learning. Additionally, we have established an in-house dataset on urinary tract stones to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach. Comprehensive experiments conducted on this dataset reveal that our framework significantly surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Shopping centers are transformed from physical stores to e-commerce with more varied product and service offerings. Since fashion is the most favorite item category in Indonesia, there are lots of fashion e-commerce grown in the country. One of the unsatisfactory conditions that are occurred in fashion e-commerce in Indonesia is user drop off. By using funnel analysis, the product detail page of fashion e-commerce founded as the page with the most user drop off. To tackle this problem, several experiments were prepared. With A/B testing, the experiments that possibly improved the conversion rate were identified. This research discovered experimental version of the User Interface (UI) of the product detail page by manipulating button colors, layout, and delivering comprehensible information to users.

Anomalies in data become ubiquitous and often unavoidable. Despite it might be caused by various errors during the data collection or transportation, some anomalies potentially give important information such as indication of a new underlying process. The aim of anomaly detection task is to determine all such instances in the input dataset in a data-driven fashion. In the past decade, the proliferation of anomaly data in many domains have raised research interest resulted in a plethora of anomaly detection methods A vast number of previous study reports suggested that there is no single model will achieve the best performance for every dataset. This paper presents empiric results on the effect of several kernel functions to performance of One-Class Support Vector Machine (OC-SVM) as an anomaly detector model. The proposed model is tested using financial transactions of microfinance service dataset from an Indonesian Bank. The empiric results showed that OC-SVM model with Sigmoid and RBF kernels achieve the best statistically significant value of training, validation, and testing accuracies than the OC-SVM model with no-kernel, linear kernel and polynomial (degree 3,4,5,6) kernels. © 2019 IEEE.

As a rich country in genetic resources, Indonesia has the potential for strengthening food security. Maize is one of the commodities that greatly affect food security in Indonesia. Maize is also widely used as animal feed. The high demand for maize requires efforts to increase the productivity of sustainable cultivation. Various research efforts that have been carried out require the support of a comprehensive information system. This study aimed to build a research model for maize genetic resource information systems that can help search for superior varieties. The data collection method used was collecting genotype, phenotype, climate data and interviewing the maize breeders or researchers. As for the design of the model, this study used the Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD) method with notation from Unified Modelling Language (UML). The result of this research was a web-based model of information systems for maize research.

Attendance, presence, or attendance recording is very important for every lecture, office or other organizational activities. Currently, recording student attendance activities at Mercu Buana University is by calling one by one the students by the lecturer, then the lecturer signs attendance on the special application form for lecturers that have been provided. For this reason, it is necessary to design a database to create the database. The analysis used is SWOT to compare between Gaudy Booch and Ivan Jacobson methods. This comparison is used to find out which method is appropriate in implementing a better database. Based on the database design that is made to further facilitate archiving of attendance, increase data efficiency. From the results of the research with class diagram description objects, the class diagram and database model that we use is from Ivar Jacobson, because it shows how actors from class diagrams point to Object-Oriented Software Engineering that has advantages that are easy to learn and have notation simpler. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Recently, Cui et al. [Sci. China Phys. 62, 110311 (2019)] proposed a measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) scheme based on high-dimensional encoding to increase the channel capacity of each individual photon. A secret key is shared among two legitimate parties via the help of a dishonest third-party (TP). They claimed that the proposed protocol can improve the drawback of the low-key generation rate that existed in the past MDI-QKD schemes. However, this study pointed out a loophole during the security check of TP. That is, the two legitimate participants merely use the corresponding qubit pairs that are both generated in the diagonal basis for the discussion, which leads to a potential attack that not only allows TP to avoid the security check but also creates partial inconsistency of key bits for both communicating sides. Fortunately, this problem can be fixed by a minor correction of the protocol. © World Scientific Publishing Company.

Understanding learning culture based on learning activities is important for learning success in an e-Learning. As an effort that can be done for this purpose, it is necessary to build a student learning culture based on students activities. The study proposes a Cultural Framework for Learning in an E-Learning. It is called E-LEEP Culture because used in an e-Learning the Equality Education program (E-LEEP). This framework has five key components, namely: Students, E-LEEP, Learning Activities, Learning Culture, and Digital Contents. Learning culture component in E-LEEP Culture Framework consists of sharing activities, getting information, discussingIndividualistic Learning, Collaborative Learning, Learning Time (learn a little), and Learning Time (learn a lot). Social media can be used to support learning activities in non-formal education. The utilization of social media by students can be seen as a strategy to improve the students' engagement in e-Learning. It is an important goal for the e-Learning of non-formal education. This study aims to propose a strategy using social media to increase students engagement in E-Learning for the Equivalency Education program (SosMed E-LEEP strategy). This strategy has several key components. These components are students, social media, E-LEEP, and Students Engagement. SosMed E-LEEP Strategy consists of sharing activities, getting information, discussing, and interacting with students and Tutor, and for learning purpose. The purpose of this paper is to understand the deployment model of MEC with distributed cloud in 4G network before rolling out 5G and make the most successful deployment without creating conflict with NFV as part of digital transformation. MEC brings flexibility and agility to meet the application demands of low latency, high reliability with high scalability, bandwidth and battery savings. It explains few reasons why MEC should be adopted before 5G deployment and what would be the benefits for all the actors like operators and public cloud service providers. MEC architecture is designed by ETSI and there are some known challenges with MEC use scenarios like AR/VR, IoT and connected vehicles. MEC offerings few deployment options which available for 4G and take that deployment model as a reference for MEC deployment on 5G include the migration options. This paper provides list of recommendations for key successes deploying MEC in 4G network and 5G and help the stakeholders understand the way to realize the MEC benefits. © 2019 IEEE.
