Polygon-based computer-generated holography algorithms can achieve high realism at low computational cost. Many recent contributions improve the hologram generation efficiency and solve many issues of 3D realistic rendering. This manuscript provides a comprehensive evaluation of their performance and potential through a detailed classification and comparison. Although the numerical-based algorithms using spectral interpolation offer greater flexibility in achieving realistic 3D displays, further phase-optimization algorithms are needed to render 3D reconstructions with higher definition, reduced noise, and faster updates. © 2024 SPIE. Revealing the hidden dynamics of confined water in acrylate polymers: Insights from hydrogen-bond lifetime analysis

Polymers contain functional groups that participate in hydrogen bond (H-bond) with water molecules, establishing a robust H-bond network that influences bulk properties. This study utilized molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to examine the H-bonding dynamics of water molecules confined within three poly(meth)acrylates: poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PMEA), poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), and poly(1-methoxymethyl acrylate) (PMC1A). Results showed that H-bonding dynamics significantly slowed as the water content decreased. Additionally, the diffusion of water molecules and its correlation with H-bond breakage were analyzed. Our findings suggest that when the H-bonds between water molecules and the methoxy oxygen of PMEA are disrupted, those water molecules persist in close proximity and do not diffuse on a picosecond timescale. In contrast, the water molecules H-bonded with the hydroxy oxygen of PHEMA and the methoxy oxygen of PMC1A diffuse concomitantly with the breakage of H-bonds. These results provide an in-depth understanding of the impact of polymer functional groups on H-bonding dynamics. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Internet of Things (IoT) allows better solutions for managing challenges such as reliability and power quality in a smart grid environment. It also assists in adopting smart grid measures in smart city development. A smart meter in the smart grid environment must securely access services from a service provider via public channels. An adversary can pose several security vulnerabilities as the communication occurs through a public channel. Various researchers recently conducted several research types to determine the most challenging problems with the smart grid. The security features like integrity, authentication, and confidentiality are indispensable requirements of the smart grid environment. On the other hand, different objects like smart meters in the smart grid environment are resource-constrained, posing in designing lightweight security protocols. Hence, we propose a lightweight mutual authentication scheme to offer surveillance to smart meters in smart grid infrastructure. We analyze the suggested protocol against well-known security threats. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the protocol to illustrate its efficiency. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Motif Channel Opened in a White-Box: Stereo Matching via Motif Correlation Graph

Real-world applications of stereo matching, such as autonomous driving, place stringent demands on both safety and accuracy. However, learning-based stereo matching methods inherently suffer from the loss of geometric structures in certain feature channels, creating a bottleneck in achieving precise detail matching. Additionally, these methods lack interpretability due to the black-box nature of deep learning. In this paper, we propose MoCha-V2, a novel learning-based paradigm for stereo matching. MoCha-V2 introduces the Motif Correlation Graph (MCG) to capture recurring textures, which are referred to as "motifs" within feature channels. These motifs reconstruct geometric structures and are learned in a more interpretable way. Subsequently, we integrate features from multiple frequency domains through wavelet inverse transformation. The resulting motif features are utilized to restore geometric structures in the stereo matching process. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of MoCha-V2. MoCha-V2 achieved 1st place on the Middlebury benchmark at the time of its release. Code is available at here. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The objective of this paper is to identify the stresses placed on the musculoskeletal system when small dogs walk on floors with low friction coefficients. In many households, and small dogs in particular are often kept indoors. According to veterinary experience, it is known that small dogs kept indoors that walk with their lower limbs slipping cause a great deal of stress on the musculoskeletal system, and that the incidence of joint disease in the lower limbs of such small dogs is high. In this study, we measured the body movements of small dogs walking on slippery floors using a three-dimensional motion capture system and force plate system. Furthermore, by inputting these measurements into the musculoskeletal simulation model we have developed to simulate the musculoskeletal system of dogs, we derived the load on the musculoskeletal system of small dogs on slippery and non-slippery floors. As a result, it was identified that walking on a slippery floor causes a strong load on the lower limb muscles of small dogs.

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) systems hold great potential in aiding disabled and elderly individuals to live independently. Various approaches have been suggested for identifying human activities, including sensors, cameras, wearables, and contactless microwave sensing. This latter method is gaining significant attention due to its ability to address privacy concerns arising from cameras and alleviate discomfort caused by wearables. However, current microwave sensing techniques have a key limitation, requiring controlled and ideal conditions to achieve accurate activity detection. In this paper, we propose RISense, a deep learning-aided system for HAR using Re-configurable Intelligent Surface (RIS). RISense introduces novel modules designed to generate a human activity representational space that ensures separability between activity classes, even in the presence of noisy and distorted Channel State information (CSI) measurements. These representations are then fed into a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), which learns the sequential changes in features to accurately estimate the user activity. The evaluation of RISense across two realistic settings, encompassing both non-line-of-sight and multi-floor scenarios, showcases its efficacy. Specifically, RISense achieves an activity recognition accuracy of 98.7%. This performance overcomes the accuracy of state-of-the-art systems by over 15%. These findings highlight the superior efficacy of the proposed methodologies, including integrating RIS and advanced learning techniques.

The advent of Beyond 5G (B5G) and the anticipated arrival of 6G have spurred a remarkable impact on various aspects of human life. Next-generation Human Activity Recognition (HAR) systems are poised to advance healthcare, create smart environments, and enhance overall well-being. The imperative for next-gen HAR systems lies in their capability to be intelligent, privacy-preserving, and deeply accurate. These systems, leveraging the cutting-edge capabilities of B5G and 6G, such as Re-configurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), aim to revolutionize the monitoring process and intelligently discern various human activities. Hence, this paper introduces BSgActiv, a smart RIS-enhanced HAR system. BSgActiv utilizes fractional wavelet transform to effectively highlight time and frequency features of activities from the measured channel state information (CSI) reflected from RIS. Afterward, these features are utilized to train a recurrent neural network that records the temporal characteristics of the input, hence promoting activity recognition. Moreover, BSgActiv integrates diverse modules that enhance the deep model's overall observation and ability to withstand and perform well in the presence of noise. BSgActiv evaluations contain two different realistic scenarios, including both non-line-of-sight and multi-floor setups, proofing its efficacy. Particularly, BSgActiv overcomes benchmark techniques and delivers an activity recognition accuracy of 89.7%.

To solve the problem of low efficiency of NO_(x)emission reduction in self-reflux burners,this study is based on the concept of coordinated control of self-reflux burner structural and thermal *** completing the structural design and optimization of thermal parameters,we continue to adjust the two key structural parameters:the nozzle axis distance and the length of the cylindrical section,to minimize NO_(x)*** are the two parameters that chiefly affect the mixing of flue gas and fuel *** results show that increasing nozzle axis distance can delay the mixing of gas and air and create a more uniform oxygen concentration field for the combustion *** maximum combustion temperature is reduced from 1973.65 K to 1935.88 K and the volume fraction of NO_(x)in the flue gas is reduced from 188.08×10^(–6)to 143.47×10^(–6).However,compared with the nozzle axis distance,the length of the cylindrical section of the burner has little effect on the mixing of the flow *** different cylindrical section lengths,the maximum combustion temperature does not change more than 3 K,and the volume fraction of NO_(x)in the flue gas changes within 5×10~(–6).

Accessing the accurate downlink channel state information (CSI) is essential to take full advantage of frequency division duplex (FDD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems due to its weak channel reciprocity. Meanwhile, great computational burdens will happen, which is accompanied by continuous CSI feedback. The existing compressive sensing (CS)-based and deep learning (DL)-based methods try to solve such problems, but do not achieve desired effect to get ideal CSI feedback or decrease the overhead. An adaptive deep neural network (DNN)-based CSI feedback method is proposed in this paper to address this. A classification block of the compression ratio is adopted and modified to apply to a more complex channel model named Clustered-Delay-Line (CDL), which helps decrease the computational overhead of the network. Besides, the reconstruction accuracy of the CSI feedback is further improved by proposing a new structure of the encoder. Quantization and dequantization modules are also applied to make the whole network more robust and effectively minimize the quantization distortion in the real communication scenario, respectively. The simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than the conventional ones on the CSI reconstruction accuracy in terms of normalized mean square error (NMSE), even though the quantization module is added.
