Diagnosability is an important parameter to measure the fault tolerance of a multiprocessor system. If we only care about the state of a node, instead of doing the global diagnosis, Hsu and Tan proposed the idea of local diagnosis. Chiang and Tan provided an extended star structure to diagnose a node under comparison model. In this work, we evaluate the local diagnosability better by proposing a tree structure around this node. We provide the corresponding algorithm to diagnose the node. Simulation results are presented for different failure probability of a node in the tree and different percentage of faulty nodes in the tree, showing the performance of our algorithm. © 2024 Institute of information science. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted received signal strength (RSS) positioning technology has attracted widespread attention due to its low deployment cost and ability to customize the wireless environment. Through regulating the RIS's electromagnetic responses, the transmission channels are altered to amplify the differences in RSS values between neighbouring locations, thereby enhancing the accuracy of positioning. However, existing works only consider reflective RIS, and thus can only improve the positioning accuracy of users on a single face of the surface. To offer positioning services to users on either sides of the surfaces, we propose to utilize Intelligent Omni-Surface (IOS), a special kind of RIS that is capable of reflecting and refracting incoming signals concurrently, to assist the RSS-based positioning. Specifically, by modulating the RSS distribution on the two sides of the IOS through adjusting the reflection and refraction phase shifts induced by the surface, positioning accuracy for individuals on either sides of the surface can undergo effective improvements, so as to realize full-dimensional localization. However, since the reflection and refraction phase shifts of the IOS are coupled, it is challenging to jointly optimize them so as to minimize the positioning error. To address this challenge, within this letter, we investigated an IOS-aided full-dimensional localization system based on RSS, in which IOS is placed in the centre of the room to adjust the RSS distribution of users on both sides, and designed an IOS-aided localization protocol to coordinate IOS and users. Based on this protocol, we formulate a phase shift optimization problem to reduce users' positioning error, and develop a phase shift optimization algorithm based on gradient descent for iteratively to solve it. Simulation results confirm the efficiency of the suggested IOS-aided positioning method. © 2024 SPIE.

Our previous research showed that emulating dendritic neuron structure effectively addresses orientation detection challenges in learning tasks, reducing both learning time and costs compared to alternative neural network approaches. Our simulation model incorporates an On-Off Response mechanism in bipolar cells (BCs) and horizontal cells (HCs) for processing grayscale input images. To overcome limitations with single-channel input, we introduce color-selective cells. By integrating these cells, we enhance and select outputs of local orientation detection dendritic neurons, generating specific feature maps. These feature maps are generated using a biologically-inspired model that mimics the mechanism of color-selective cells. Additionally, global neurons are used to capture overall image features by aggregating outputs from local dendritic neurons. Our system utilizes backpropagation to update parameters of local orientation detection dendritic neurons. Furthermore, we integrate a learnable orientation detection neural network after the dendritic neuron stage. © 2024 SPIE.

Evaluating marginal likelihood approximations of dose-response relationship models in Bayesian benchmark dose methods for risk assessment

Benchmark dose (BMD;a dose associated with a specified change in response) is used to determine the point of departure for the acceptable daily intake of substances for humans. Multiple dose-response relationship models are considered in the BMD method. Bayesian model averaging (BMA) is commonly used, where several models are averaged based on their posterior probabilities, which are determined by calculating the marginal likelihood (ML). Several ML approximation methods are employed in standard software packages, such as BBMD, ToxicR, and Bayesian BMD for the BMD method, because the ML cannot be analytically calculated. Although ML values differ among approximation methods, resulting in different posterior probabilities and BMD estimates, this phenomenon is neither widely recognized nor quantitatively evaluated. In this study, we evaluated the performance of five ML approximation methods: (1) maximum likelihood estimation (MLE)-based Schwarz criterion, (2) Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC)-based Schwarz criterion, (3) Laplace approximation, (4) density estimation, and (5) bridge sampling through numerical examples using four real experimental datasets. Eight models and three prior distributions used in BBMD and ToxicR were assumed. The approximation and estimation biases of bridge sampling were the smallest regardless of the dataset or prior distributions. Both the approximation and estimation biases of MCMC-based Schwarz criterion and Laplace approximation were large for some datasets. Thus, the approximation biases of the density estimation were relatively small but were large for some datasets. In terms of the accuracy of ML approximation methods, using Bayesian BMD, in which the bridge sampling is available, is preferred. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Object detection using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has achieved high performance and achieved state-of-the-art results with natural images. Compared to natural images, medical images present several challenges for lesion detection. First, the sizes of lesions vary tremendously, from several millimeters to several centimeters. Scale variations significantly affect lesion detection accuracy, especially for the detection of small lesions. Moreover, the effective extraction of temporal and spatial features from multi-phase CT images is also an important issue. In this paper, we propose a group-based deep layer aggregation method with multiphase attention for liver lesion detection in multi-phase CT images. The method, which is called MSPA-DLA++, is a backbone feature extraction network for anchor-free liver lesion detection in multi-phase CT images that addresses scale variations and extracts hidden features from such images. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on public datasets (LiTS2017) and our private multiphase dataset. The results of the experiments show that MSPA-DLA++ can improve upon the performance of state-of-the-art networks by approximately 3.7%. © 2024 International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and IOS Press.

Courier services are a means of transport that can be used to deliver orders to customers or claim orders from them, and customers can use technology from the courier service like track order to track their order. The use of courier service nowadays is common that every day, people use courier service as their daily means of transport for delivering goods. However, in situations like pandemic, the courier services need to put more effort into their services, so that customers can use courier services with trust. The courier service must be more careful to deliver customer orders or send orders to customers. For this research methodology, the data collection technique using Google Forms and collecting data directly from people about their opinion toward the research have been employed. The result of the data collecting technique is depicted as the usage of the courier service during COVID-19 pandemic starting from March 2020. The results vary every month because not everyone uses the courier service every day. Moreover, the conclusion on why the months starting from March to June do not show high usage of courier service is that the pandemic has not been that worse than the later months, and so, people were going out to deliver or to do activities like shopping or buying groceries on their own. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been successful in various computer vision tasks. However, the size of state-of-The-Art CNN models tends to be tremendous, which results in very long inference times and high memory usage. Model compression technology such as unstructured pruning can prune a significant proportion of parameters without affecting accuracy, but efficient utilization of sparsity remains a challenge. Column combining compress unstructurally-pruned CNN models by combining multiple sparse columns in a convolutional filter matrix into a single dense column. In addition, pruning all but the largest magnitude weight in each row of the combined column further compresses the matrix effectively. However, previous work did not address the details of partitioning sparse columns to minimize the negative impact of additional pruning on the performance of the model. In this work, we first prove that the column partition problem is an NP-Complete problem. Next, we propose a column combining scheme based on simulated annealing and global unstructured pruning to minimize the adverse effects of additional pruning on model performance. We implement the acceleration of column-combined CNN models using the TVM AI compiler without special hardware support. The proposed scheme achieves more efficient model compression, leading to a 0.65% improvement in accuracy and a 1.24× faster inference time on VGG19 under 88% sparsity with the TinyImageNet dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we describe the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) implementation of our City-LES code on detailed large eddy simulations, including the multi-physical phenomena on fluid dynamics, heat absorption and reflection by surface and building materials, cloud effects, and even sunlight effect. Because a detailed simulation involving these phenomena is required for analyses at the street level and several meters of resolution, the computation amount is enormous, and ordinary CPU computation cannot provide sufficient performance. Therefore, we implemented the entire code on GPU clusters with large-scale computing. We applied OpenACC coding to incrementally implement relatively easy programming and eliminate data transfers between the CPU and GPU memories. Based on this research, we determined that the elimination of data transfers is effective, even in the case where a part of the code execution on the GPU is slower than the CPU, owing to the absence of spatial parallelism. The objective of this study is to perform a complete climate simulation on a few square-kilometers field around the Tokyo Station, considering the finest resolution of the original highlighted area of the Marathon race in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. We successfully transferred the entire code to the GPU to provide approximately eight times the performance of CPU-only computation on multi-GPU per node with a large scale cluster. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for information Processing.

Relationship with customers is one of the most crucial factors in business continuity and development. Many current businesses have started delving into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) to establish and maintain their sales and customer relationships. This research was conducted on one retail company that implements CRM but experiencing a gap in their unit sales performance between their targeted sales and the realization. This study aims to analyze the gaps causing factors using Factor Analysis Method, constructing a suitable regression model, and proposing the company's necessary strategy. The research was conducted quantitatively using a questionnaire from 264 respondents. The result of this study showed that there are five causing factors which are CRM Reliability, Underutilization of CRM, CRM Capability, CRM Unpreparedness, and Customer Relation Quality, as well as forming a regression model of the company's CRM performance. © 2023 IEEE.

As a cause of interfering with routine activities, freezing of gait (FOG) is a severe syndrome of Parkinson's disease (PD) and usually performs as an abrupt and momentary inability to effective stepping forward. Advanced wearable acceleration sensors based on socially implemented Internet of medical things (IoMT) devices can remotely provide a platform for recognizing FOG. However, due to the diverse data acquisition modes that appear in classic IoMT devices, the obtained data may contain imprecise, hesitant, and incomplete ones. Meanwhile, the bounded rationality owned by neurologists usually has a big impact on using wearable acceleration sensors to predict illnesses. Therefore, the objective of this article lies in exploring a fuzzy intelligence learning approach based on bounded rationality in IoMT systems and providing a valid scheme for biomedical data analysis. Specifically, a brand-new three-way group decision-making approach by means of TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for interactive multicriteria decision-making) with incomplete dual hesitant fuzzy (DHF) information and its applications in detecting FOG in PD using IoMT devices are systematically explored. First, taking advantage of DHF sets (DHFSs) when depicting realistic group decision information, the concept of multigranulation (MG) incomplete DHF information systems is built. Second, adjustable MG DHF probabilistic rough sets (PRSs) are further put forward via DHF similarity relations. Third, a three-way group decision-making approach is constructed by virtue of adjustable MG DHF PRSs and TODIM. Finally, the validity, effectiveness, and practicality of the constructed three-way group decision-making approach are investigated by a University of California, Irvine (UCI) dataset with several experimental analyses in the background of FOG detection in PD using IoMT devices. The experimental result indicates that the developed fuzzy intelligence learning approach achieves reasonable diagnostic conclusions
