Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a research area that involves wearable devices integrating inertial and/or physiological sensors to classify human actions and status across various application domains, such as healthcare, sports, industry, and entertainment. However, executing HAR algorithms on remote devices or the cloud can lead to issues such as latency, bandwidth requirements, and energy consumption. Transitioning towards Edge HAR can be a more effective and versatile solution, overcoming the challenges of traditional HAR techniques. We present a novel HAR model for computation on edge devices: we design a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) Deep Learning approach and compare its performance with cloud-computing HAR models. The paper is accompanied by a self-collected dataset. The experiments on this dataset demonstrate that the proposed edge computing model achieves promising results (\geq 92 %) in terms of Precision, Recall, and Fl-score. Furthermore, the model exhibits significantly reduced latency, with only 117 ms, and utilizes minimal memory, with a peak of 18.8 Kb RAM and 956 Kb Flash memory. © 2023 IEEE.

A QoS-aware routing approach for Internet of Things-enabled wireless sensor networks in smart cities

In the Internet of Things (IoT), optimizing machine performance through data analysis and improved connectivity is pivotal. Addressing the growing need for environmentally friendly IoT solutions, we focus on "green IoT." Quality in smart cities heavily relies on efficient data gathering and communication. In this study, we propose a novel software architecture tailored for data collection and communication in IoT-enabled smart applications, emphasizing sustainability from the outset. Specifically, for smart cities utilizing IoT-enabled wireless sensor networks, we introduce a Quality of Service (QoS)-aware routing strategy. In the data collection phase, we employ Chaotic Bird Swarm Optimization (CBSO) for creating IoT sensor clusters, accompanied by Improved Differential Search (IDS) to assess the reliability of individual sensor nodes, ultimately designating the most trusted node as the Cluster Head (CH). In the data transport phase, we implement lightweight signcryption to enhance the security of IoT sensor data. Furthermore, we employ an Optimal Data Routing (ODM) approach to compute the most efficient data transmission paths between source and destination nodes within the IoT network. Finally, the performance of our QoS-aware routing strategy is evaluated through network simulations using NS2 and compared against existing approaches, offering valuable insights into its effectiveness and suitability for smart city IoT applications. The main findings of the study indicate that the proposed QoS-aware routing strategy (QOS-AWARE ROUTING) consistently outperforms existing routing algorithms in terms of energy efficiency, network longevity, and latency, both in scenarios with varying sensor node density and over multiple cycles. Additionally, it demonstrates significant advantages, such as up to 90.8% less energy consumption, 66.8% longer network lifespan, and 80.1% reduced latency when compared to the benchmarked methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to S

Smartphones contain a vast amount of information about their users, which can be used as evidence in criminal cases. However, the sheer volume of data can make it challenging for forensic investigators to identify and use the most relevant information. Neutrosophic logic is a generalization of fuzzy logic that allows for uncertainty and vagueness, making it a more potent tool for dealing with the ambiguity of real-world data. The proposed framework aims to identify and utilize the most relevant information for forensic investigators, making it easier to solve criminal cases using Neutrosophic logic. This novel approach provides a more powerful tool for dealing with the ambiguity of smartphone data, ultimately improving the accuracy and effectiveness of forensic investigations. Our research has utilized Neutrosophic logic to evaluate the degree of truth, falsity, or Indeterminacy of this information. Additionally, this study analyzes conversations between individuals using Excel’s fuzzy lookup add-in to determine the percentage of truth and false in each conversation. The results were compiled into a dataset and utilized a Neutrosophic Python code to evaluate the information. The results indicate the percentage of truth, false, and Indeterminacy in each conversation and which can be used to determine its admissibility as evidence and which not. © 2025, University of New Mexico. Visual question answering(VQA)is a multimodal task,involving a deep understanding of the image scene and the question’s meaning and capturing the relevant correlations between both modalities to infer the appropriate *** this paper,we propose a VQA system intended to answer yes/no questions about real-world images,in *** support a robust VQA system,we work in two directions:(1)Using deep neural networks to semantically represent the given image and question in a fine-grainedmanner,namely ResNet-152 and Gated Recurrent Units(GRU).(2)Studying the role of the utilizedmultimodal bilinear pooling fusion technique in the *** the model complexity and the overall model *** fusion techniques could significantly increase the model complexity,which seriously limits their applicability for VQA *** far,there is no evidence of how efficient these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques are for VQA systems dedicated to yes/no ***,a comparative analysis is conducted between eight bilinear pooling fusion techniques,in terms of their ability to reduce themodel complexity and improve themodel performance in this case of VQA *** indicate that these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques have improved the VQA model’s performance,until reaching the best performance of 89.25%.Further,experiments have proven that the number of answers in the developed VQA system is a critical factor that *** the effectiveness of these multimodal bilinear pooling techniques in achieving their main objective of reducing the model *** Multimodal Local Perception Bilinear Pooling(MLPB)technique has shown the best balance between the model complexity and its performance,for VQA systems designed to answer yes/no questions.

An Intelligent Privacy Protection Scheme for Efficient Edge Computation Offloading in IoV

As a pivotal enabler of intelligent transportation system(ITS), Internet of vehicles(Io V) has aroused extensive attention from academia and industry. The exponential growth of computation-intensive, latency-sensitive,and privacy-aware vehicular applications in Io V result in the transformation from cloud computing to edge computing,which enables tasks to be offloaded to edge nodes(ENs) closer to vehicles for efficient execution. In ITS environment,however, due to dynamic and stochastic computation offloading requests, it is challenging to efficiently orchestrate offloading decisions for application requirements. How to accomplish complex computation offloading of vehicles while ensuring data privacy remains challenging. In this paper, we propose an intelligent computation offloading with privacy protection scheme, named COPP. In particular, an Advanced Encryption Standard-based encryption method is utilized to implement privacy protection. Furthermore, an online offloading scheme is proposed to find optimal offloading policies. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that COPP significantly outperforms benchmark schemes in the performance of both delay and energy consumption.

Suppose anyone wants to start core research on IoT technologies, research opportunities, challenges, and solutions. In that case, this paper will help me understand all the basics, such as security, interoperability, standards, scalability, complexity, data management, and quality of service (QoS). This paper also discusses some recent technologies and the challenges in implementation. Traditional Internet protocol networks cannot provide the service of selecting a secure path to transmit various types of data with specific security ***,to solve the“secure path transmission”problem,this paper first proposes a search-transmit model for secure network path transmission,i.e.,to find a multi-attribute optimized path that meets the specific security requirements in the search phase,and then transmit the packets along the optimized path in the transmission ***,we propose a solution to the search-transmit *** idea of the solution is to use the particle swarm optimization algorithm to search for a secure path that meets the multi-attribute requirements and then set the source route on the router to control the packet ***,a prototype system based on network function virtualization is developed to evaluate the feasibility and performance of the proposed *** results show that the proposed solution outperforms existing algorithms in terms of performance.
