This paper describes a data replication service for large-scale, data intensive applications whose results can be shared among geographically distributed scientists. We introduce two kinds of data replication techniques, called owner-initiated data replication and client-initiated data replication, that are developed to support data replica consistency without requiring any special file system-level locking functions. Also, we present performance results on Linux clusters located at Sejong University. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

The development of effective classification techniques, particularly unsupervised classification, is important for real-world applications since information about the training data before classification is relatively unknown. In this paper, a novel unsupervised classification algorithm is proposed to meet the increasing demand in the domain of network intrusion detection. Our proposed UNPCC (Unsu-pervised Principal Component Classifier) algorithm is a multi-class unsupervised classifier with absolutely no requirements for any a priori class related data information (e.g., the number of classes and the maximum number of instances belonging to each class), and an inherently natural supervised classification scheme, both which present high detection rates and several operational advantages (e.g., lower training time, lower classification time, lower processing power requirement, and lower memory requirement). Experiments have been conducted with the KDD Cup 99 data and network traffic data simulated from our private network testbed, and the promising results demonstrate that our UNPCC algorithm outperforms several well-known supervised and unsupervised classification algorithms. © 2006 IEEE.

Ubiquitous sensor networks are application oriented system, which are composed of a large number of cooperative sensor nodes. The identification of individual sensor node is important especially for some security-sensitive applications. In this paper, we focus on the establishment of trust relationship among wireless sensor nodes, and try to combine the message authentication and identity authentication as a countermeasure to hostile attack. Accompanied with a simple lightweight key pre-distribution algorithm, in which each node sends only one message, we propose a lightweight trust relationship establishing scheme for ubiquitous sensor networks. The new scheme, which works without a trusted authority in the network, is not only concise in format but effective in practice to ensure network trusted and secure.

The role of mobile phones in contemporary life is a means to access to the wireless internet service not to mention a device for general communication. Even if additional functions and services are provided for use, the complexity of the phone increases and the usability and learn-ability of the phone would decrease. This paper proposes an innovative man machine interface by implementing the RFID technology into mobile phones. Unlike current MMI, the RFID phone minimizes the key inputs to connect to the wireless internet service that users want to connect to. By using the RFID phone, the wireless internet service usage will be increased with various services provided. © 2006 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel supervised classification approach called Collateral Representative Subspace Projection Modeling (C-RSPM) is presented. C-RSPM facilitates schemes for collateral class modeling, class-ambiguity solving, and classification, resulting a multi-class supervised classifier with high detection rate and various operational benefits including low training and classification times and low processing power and memory requirements. In addition, C-RSPM is capable of adaptively selecting nonconsecutive principal dimensions from the statistical information of the training data set to achieve an accurate modeling of a representative subspace. Experimental results have shown that the proposed C-RSPM approach outperforms other supervised classification methods such as SIMCA, C4.5 decision tree, Decision Table (DT), Nearest Neighbor (NN), KNN, Support Vector Machine (SVM), 1-NN Best Warping Window DTW, 1-NN DTW with no Warping Window, and the well-known classifier boosting method AdaBoost with SVM. © 2006 IEEE.

Road boundary detection and tracking is an important and integral function in advanced driver-assistance system. This paper proposes an algorithm, which can follow multi-kinds of lane, straight and curved, quickly and robustly. The algorithm uses several masks to extract blobs of road markings, combining with KNN function to remove the disturbance. Further more, road is modeled as a 3D surface, and some important parameters of current lane are provided on real-time by tracking based on Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The results of experiments, which have been done in urban road, show that the algorithm is adapted to many road conditions. Even in a complex driving environment, it also has a good performance. © 2006 IEEE.

With the improvement in information technology and the rapid adoption of automatization at both work and home, people are now enjoying a life that is more comfortable and convenient. In particular, as the automatization is becoming standard in the medical field, especially in the large hospital, the demand for system that can handle various information and data are now more than ever imperative. In the case of medical services, various medical accidents are occurring during offline status and the possibility of much more problems occurring during application of online medical diagnosis is high. This suggests that, there is a need to equip mutual security system structure to reduce conflicts between various medical systems that have been introduced and to maintain integrity of information. Therefore, the researcher will design a class based community system that will categorize systems, as a means to design systematic medical information system in ubiquitous environment. Structure of this research will be as follows. In the Chapter 2, definition of community will be defined and medical information and ubiquitous medical systems will be studied. In the Chapter 3, medical information community system will be designed and evaluated, followed by conclusion in the Chapter 4.

There is now an increasing demand for sharing document images and image data for process integration among enterprises. Web services technology has recently been widely proposed and gradually adopted as a platform for supporting integrations. There are so far no holistic solutions to tackle the various protection issues in this area, especially regarding the security and privacy protection requirements in cross-enterprise progress integration. We propose the exchange of document images through a Document Image Exchange Platform (DIEP), replacing ad-hoc and manual exchange practices. We show how contemporary technologies of Web services and watermarking can help archive images with layered implementation architecture. Through dedicated Web services technologies with watermarking mechanism, not only can the development, deployment, and maintenance of software be streamlined, the privacy protection in document image exchanges as required by disparate processes can also be much facilitated. © 2006 IEEE.

This paper presents a new code structure and its ability in supporting multiple transmission rates in point to point Spectral Amplitude Coding- Optical Code Division Multiple Access (SAC-OCDMA) links. The Double-Weight (DW) code family that has a basic fixed weight of 2 was proposed. Enhancement Double Weight (EDW) Code is a DW code family variation that has variable weight of greater than one. The ability of EDW codes to support simultaneous transmissions at different bit rates is shown through simulated results of the bit error rate (BER) and the eye patterns. Three EDW encoded channels were used at the bit rates of 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps. EDW code shown here significantly performs better than Hadamard and Modified Frequency Hopping (MFH) codes. © 2006 IEEE.
