Unveiling the epilepsy enigma: an agile and optimal machine learning approach for detecting inter-ictal state from electroencephalogram signals

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by the occurrence of paroxysmal recurrent seizures, which are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Seizures vary widely in their presentation, depending on the specific region of the brain involved and the extent of the abnormal electrical discharges. The disease can affect cognitive function posing a serious threat to the patients’ lives. Epilepsy causes emotional and behavioral changes, along with sleep disorders and migraines, leading to social isolation and discrimination. Timely administration of medication can cure most cases of epilepsy. However, identifying epileptic patients requires reviewing multiple EEG signal sheets, which can delay disease prediction. Therefore, the aim of our study is to apply simplistic machine learning algorithms that can study the EEG signal data swiftly to identify individuals in seizure, inter-ictal, and normal states, thereby aiding in medical diagnosis. The novelty of this study lies in the utilization of pre-built methods and develop a fast and efficient model that is lightweight and easy to integrate in healthcare to provide relief to epileptic patients. While previous studies have achieved high accuracy, the discussion involving time complexity of their models has been scarce. Given the importance of timely medication in managing epilepsy, it is crucial to consider the runtime of the model rather than solely focusing on accuracy. Therefore, a model that balances both a short runtime (2.9 min) and a satisfactory accuracy (97.46%) has been developed in this project. Integration of this project's findings will catalyze transformative changes within the healthcare industry, enabling healthcare professionals to detect epilepsy at earlier stages and provide timely interventions, ultimately fostering a system that prioritizes precision, innovation, and improved patient outcomes. © The Author(s) 2024.

Speech recognition systems play an integral role in numerous applications, from virtual assistants to accessibility tools. This paper offers a new viewpoint to speech recognition utilizing computer vision and deep learning techniques. The proposed system is trained on a sizable dataset comprising 700 video clips of individuals uttering predefined words, add up to approximately 3 GB of data. Leveraging TensorFlow and Keras, model architecture is designed incorporating convolutional and dense layers. The training process yielded promising results, with a training accuracy of 95.7% and a validation accuracy of 98.5%, indicative of robust classification performance. The integration of computer vision enriches the system's ability to extract meaningful features from audio-visual inputs, enhancing its overall recognition accuracy. Proposed method demonstrates significant potential for real-time speech recognition applications in different areas, like human-computer interaction and assistive technologies. © 2024 IEEE.

Agile development aims at rapidly developing software while embracing the continuous evolution of user requirements along the whole development *** stories are the primary means of requirements collection and elicitation in the agile development.A project can involve a large amount of user stories,which should be clustered into different groups based on their functionality’s similarity for systematic requirements analysis,effective mapping to developed features,and efficient ***,the current user story clustering is mainly conducted in a manual manner,which is time-consuming and subjective to human *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for clustering the user stories automatically on the basis of natural language ***,the sentence patterns of each component in a user story are first analysed and determined such that the critical structure in the representative tasks can be automatically extracted based on the user story *** similarity of user stories is calculated,which can be used to generate the connected graph as the basis of automatic user story *** evaluate the approach based on thirteen datasets,compared against ten baseline *** results show that our clustering approach has higher accuracy,recall rate and F1-score than these *** is demonstrated that the proposed approach can significantly improve the efficacy of user story clustering and thus enhance the overall performance of agile *** study also highlights promising research directions for more accurate requirements elicitation.

This study implemented transformative pedagogy as a reflective approach to promote intercultural self-awareness and its potential consequences in the context of teamwork. The context was a second-year systems analysis and design course with 118 students in the fall 2021 semester and 155 students in the spring 2022 semester. The research question was: What are students' beliefs regarding their own cultural values and the potential implications of those values on their teamwork interactions? Findings from the study indicate that students realized that team dynamics and values are crucial to team experience. We found that students believed that commitment to the team and communication of values contributed to the experience of teamwork and teamwork success. Students also believed that coming together and making decisions together in a collectivistic manner would help the progress of the team. © 2023 IEEE.

With the increasing complexity of distributed systems, achieving an optimal distribution of tasks across resources is paramount for enhancing system performance. Therefore, in this study, a novel multi-objective load balancing approach based on adaptive osprey optimization algorithm (AO²) within computing environments is proposed. Our proposed method aims to simultaneously optimize multiple objectives, such as minimizing energy consumption, cost and time, through the application of advanced optimization algorithms. The proposed system initially predicts the load of each virtual machine (VMs). After the prediction process, the tasks are assigned to the VMs. The research involves a comprehensive evaluation comparing the proposed approach with existing load balancing techniques, showcasing its effectiveness in achieving superior results. The findings demonstrate the potential of the multi-objective optimization algorithm to enhance load balancing efficiency in diverse computing scenarios, providing a valuable contribution to the field of distributed systems and resource management. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Security, heterogeneity, and interoperability are the prominent concerns in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with restricted amounts of resources such as energy, transmission range, and processing of packets. Moreover, secured and trusted communication among WSNs is required to enhance network lifetime and security, thereby reducing energy consumption in the network. Thus, the given paper presents an ontological-based trust aware hybrid key management scheme (OTAHKMS) for WSNs. The proposed approach is a two-fold approach, where the first phase involves the encryption process for maintaining data confidentiality and integrity, while the second phase involves the use of ontology for capturing trust relationships and representing contextual information among several nodes in the network. The performance of the proposed trusted approach is validated and compared with existing cited works based on evaluation metrics such as communication trust value (CTV), network throughput (NT), packet delivery ratio (PDR), and energy consumption (EC). The results show that the proposed ontological-based trusted approach efficiently outperforms existing protocols, thereby enhancing network lifetime and energy usage in WSNs. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

Significant progress has been made in real-time object detection, with YOLOv7 emerging as a state-of-the-art model that achieves the highest levels of accuracy and speed. This study combines Bag-of-Freebies (BoF) strategies with YOLOv7 to improve performance without incurring extra computational expenses. Our tests show that adding BoF preserves real-time inference capabilities while increasing mAP@0.5 by 3.5%. The accuracy and FPS of YOLOv7 with BoF are superior to those of the current YOLO-based models (YOLOv4, YOLOv5, YOLOv6). According to the results, YOLOv7 with BoF sets a new standard for real-time object detection by achieving a mAP@0.5 of 55.3% and 83 FPS on the COCO dataset. © 2025 IEEE.

Identifying semantic types for attributes in relations,known as attribute semantic type(AST)identification,plays an important role in many data analysis tasks,such as data cleaning,schema matching,and keyword search in ***,due to a lack of unified naming standards across prevalent information systems(*** islands),AST identification still remains as an open *** tackle this problem,we propose a context-aware method to figure out the ASTs for relations in this *** transform the AST identification into a multi-class classification problem and propose a schema context aware(SCA)model to learn the representation from a collection of relations associated with attribute values and schema *** on the learned representation,we predict the AST for a given attribute from an underlying relation,wherein the predicted AST is mapped to one of the labeled *** improve the performance for AST identification,especially for the case that the predicted semantic types of attributes are not included in the labeled ASTs,we then introduce knowledge base embeddings(***)to enhance the above representation and construct a schema context aware model with knowledge base enhanced(SCA-KB)to get a stable and robust *** experiments based on real datasets demonstrate that our context-aware method outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches by a large margin,up to 6.14%and 25.17%in terms of macro average F1 score,and up to 0.28%and 9.56%in terms of weighted F1 score over high-quality and low-quality datasets respectively.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of mortality in the world affectingboth men and women *** a radiologist just focuses on the patient’sbody, it increases the amount of strain on the radiologist and the likelihoodof missing pathological information such as abnormalities are *** of the primary objectives of this research work is to develop computerassisteddiagnosis and detection of lung cancer. It also intends to make iteasier for radiologists to identify and diagnose lung cancer accurately. Theproposed strategy which was based on a unique image feature, took intoconsideration the spatial interaction of voxels that were next to one *** the U-NET+Three parameter logistic distribution-based technique, wewere able to replicate the situation. The proposed technique had an averageDice co-efficient (DSC) of 97.3%, a sensitivity of 96.5% and a specificity of94.1% when tested on the Luna-16 dataset. This research investigates howdiverse lung segmentation, juxta pleural nodule inclusion, and pulmonarynodule segmentation approaches may be applied to create computer AidedDiagnosis (CAD) systems. When we compared our approach to four otherlung segmentation methods, we discovered that ours was the most *** employed 40 patients from Luna-16 datasets to evaluate this. In termsof DSC performance, the findings demonstrate that the suggested techniqueoutperforms the other strategies by a significant margin.
