With the rapid growth of mobile broadband traffic, adopting small cell is a promising trend for operators to improve network capacity with low cost. However, static small cells cannot be flexibly placed to fulfill time/space-varying traffic. The static small cells might stay in idle or under-utilized mode during some time periods, which wastes resources. Therefore, this paper utilizes the mobile small cell concept and studies the deployment problem for mobile small cells. The objective is to maximize the service time provided by mobile small cells for all users. If a finite number of mobile small cells can serve more users for more time, the mobile small cell deployment will have more gains. Specifically, we show an interesting trade-off in the service time maximization. Then, we prove our target problem is NP-hard and propose an efficient mobile small cell deployment algorithm to deal with the trade-off to maximize the total service time. We construct a series of simulations with realistic parameter settings to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm. Compared with a static small cell deployment algorithm and a random mobile small cell deployment algorithm, the simulation results show that our proposed scheme can significantly increase the total service time provided for all users.

The distributed networked control systems are considered in this paper. Several sub-systems which are connected with each other through a communication network make up the whole system. Each sub-system has its own quantizer so that any information which needs be transmitted to other sub-systems will be quantized due to limited bandwidth. Meanwhile, the actuator faults, including outage, loss of effectiveness and stuck are also considered in our research. A mode-based state feedback controller is given in this paper to stable such NCSs and to meet the robust H-inf performance. A simulation example is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of our method finally.

Future large Internet transactions ("Elephants") will not be supported efficiently by TCP/IP Internet Protocols and traditional switching and routing paradigms. This talk describes an entire optical network architecture from the Physical Layer to the Application Layer that will support "elephants" much more efficiently and economically. In particular, bursty dynamic elephant traffic can cause serious Physical Layer transient impairments through cross-coupling in optical amplifiers that will severely corrupt all the sessions sharing the same fiber. This network architecture uses a technique called "Adiabatic Switching" and a new Transport Layer Protocol to alleviate this effect which is very prominent when the network is under congestion.

Atomic population distribution of excited states in He electrodeless discharge lamp

Population ratios between excited states are measured to build the excited state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter(ESFADOF). We calculate these values between the excited states according to the spontaneous transition probabilities using rate equations and the measured intensities of fluorescence spectral lines of He atoms in an electrodeless discharge lamp in the visible spectral region from 350 to 730 nm. The electrodeless discharge lamp with populations in excited states can be used to realize the frequency stabilization reference of the laser frequency standard. This lamp can also build ESFADOFs for submarine communication application in the blue-green wavelength to simplify the system without the use of a pump laser.

The ability of accurate and scalable mobile device recognition is critically important for mobile network operators and ISPs to understand their customers' behaviours and enhance their user *** this paper,we propose a novel method for mobile device model recognition by using statistical information derived from large amounts of mobile network traffic ***,we create a Jaccardbased coefficient measure method to identify a proper keyword representing each mobile device model from massive unstructured textual HTTP access *** handle the large amount of traffic data generated from large mobile networks,this method is designed as a set of parallel algorithms,and is implemented through the MapReduce framework which is a distributed parallel programming model with proven low-cost and high-efficiency *** using real data sets show that our method can accurately recognise mobile client models while meeting the scalability and producer-independency requirements of large mobile network *** show that a 91.5% accuracy rate is achieved for recognising mobile client models from 2 billion records,which is dramatically higher than existing solutions.

Current trends in precision machinery include increased adaptability, speed and reliability. This, combined with the development of artificially-intelligent automatic sensors can lead to the establishment of highly-reliable and systematic manufacturing systems. During the automation process, equipment process parameters frequently need to be adjusted to match the requirements of different processes. Thus how to best maintain normal equipment operation and stable quality through these frequent adjustments is a key issue for manufacturers. Scientists have dreamed of an information system with cognitive human-like skills for years. However, constrained by the device characteristics and rapidly increasing design complexity under the traditional processing technology, little progress has been made in hardware implementation. The recently popularized memristor offers a potential breakthrough for neuromorphic computing because of its unique properties including nonvolatily, extremely high fabrication density, and sensitivity to historic voltage/current behavior. In this work, we first investigate the memristor-based synapse design and the corresponding training scheme. Then, a case study of an 8-bit arithmetic logic unit (ALU) design is used to demonstrate the hardware implementation of reconfigurable system built based on memristor synapses. © 2013 IEEE.
