We describe the design of an optical network architecture that will satisfy dramatic increases in data rate demands of emerging applications. Optical flow switching (OFS), will enable significant rate growth of > 10 3 , with power-efficiency and cost-effective scalability of next-generation networks. We will describe architecture concepts germinated 24 years ago, technology and testbed demonstrations performed in the last 19 years, and the architecture construct from the Physical Layer to the Transport Layer of an implementable optical flow switching network that is scalable and manageable. Recent architecture for an NSF-funded Internet research Program “UltraFlow”, for which OFS can be used, will be described.

Anonymous wireless networks use covert relays to prevent unauthorized entities from determining communicating parties through traffic timing analysis. In a multipath anonymous network, the choice of which relay nodes should be covert, as well as the route selection by the network nodes, affect both the anonymity and network performance. Although assigning relays as covert and selecting routes composed of covert relays can provide higher anonymity, the selection of these two parameters will increase the packet dropping rate of the network. In this paper, we introduce an analytical framework for joint relay assignment and route selection in multi-path anonymous wireless networks. The main contributions of this work are two-fold. First, we show that joint relay assignment and route selection can be formulated as a convex optimization problem which guarantees global optimum solution. Second, as special cases of our formulation, we derive solutions for the problem of route selection to maximize anonymity when the relay configuration is given, as well as the problem of relay configuration for a given route selection.

At Crypto'07, Goyal introduced the notion of accountable authority identity-based encryption (A-IBE) in order to mitigate the inherent key escrow problem in identity-based encryption, and proposed two concrete constructions. In an A-IBE system, if the private key generator (PKG) distributes a decryption key or produces an unauthorized decryption box for a user maliciously, it runs the risk of being caught and sued in the court of law with the help of a tracing algorithm. Subsequent efforts focused on constructions of A-IBE schemes with enhanced security. In these A-IBE constructions, the tracing algorithm needs to take a user's decryption key as input. If the user lost his key or is deliberately uncooperative in court, then we cannot implicate the PKG or the user. An interesting open problem left by Goyal et al. at CCS'08 is to consider the possibility of tracing a decryption box using only a public tracing key, or with the assistance of a tracing authority. In this paper, we address this problem positively. We first extend the original model of A-IBE to accommodate public traceability, and then propose an A-IBE scheme in the new model. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed scheme is the first A-IBE with public traceability. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

A reversible image steganographic scheme implemented in the SMVQ compression domain of image is proposed. The goal of this scheme is to hide secret data into the compression codes of image by applying the SMVQ state codebook. In addition to reversibility and high-payload, the bit rate of the compressed cover image is another consideration in the proposed scheme since the secret data are delivered through the compression codes of cover image. To compact the volume of the overall data needed to be transmitted, the Huffman coding technique is applied. By the proposed scheme, the original VQ-compressed cover image can be restored losslessly at the receiver. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

A measurement of the Higgs boson mass is presented based on the combined data samples of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in the H→γγ and H→ZZ→4ℓ decay channels. The results are obtained from a simultaneous fit to the reconstructed invariant mass peaks in the two channels and for the two experiments. The measured masses from the individual channels and the two experiments are found to be consistent among themselves. The combined measured mass of the Higgs boson is mH=125.09±0.21 (stat)±0.11 (syst) GeV.

Secret sharing scheme is a cryptographic technology that safely manages password keys by dividing them into segments. Existing (k, n) threshold secret sharing scheme has a problem of allowing recovery of original secret information by collecting k or more random segments among divided secret information segments. To resolve such problem, this paper proposes a one weighted threshold secret sharing scheme. That is, by granting weighted value on a secret segment, original secret information cannot be recovered by collecting k or more segments, as long as the segment applied with weighted value is not included in the collection.

Remote sensing observations meet some limitations when used to study the bulk atmospheric composition of the giant planets of our solar system. A remarkable example of the superiority of in situ probe measurements is illustrated by the exploration of Jupiter, where key measurements such as the determination of the noble gases' abundances and the precise measurement of the helium mixing ratio have only been made available through in situ measurements by the Galileo probe. This paper describes the main scientific goals to be addressed by the future in situ exploration of Saturn placing the Galileo probe exploration of Jupiter in a broader context and before the future probe exploration of the more remote ice giants. In situ exploration of Saturn's atmosphere addresses two broad themes that are discussed throughout this paper: first, the formation history of our solar system and second, the processes at play in planetary atmospheres. In this context, we detail the reasons why measurements of Saturn's bulk elemental and isotopic composition would place important constraints on the volatile reservoirs in the protosolar nebula. We also show that the in situ measurement of CO (or any other disequilibrium species that is depleted by reaction with water) in Saturn's upper troposphere may help constraining its bulk O/H ratio. We compare predictions of Jupiter and Saturn's bulk compositions from different formation scenarios, and highlight the key measurements required to distinguish competing theories to shed light on giant planet formation as a common process in planetary systems with potential applications to most extrasolar systems. In situ measurements of Saturn's stratospheric and tropospheric dynamics, chemistry and cloud-forming processes will provide access to phenomena unreachable to remote sensing studies. Multiple Level Security (MLS) has always been a center of focus since the usage of computers in military and intelligence systems. Extensive studies have been done on how to utilize virtualization technologies to provide multiple level secured execution in the cloud, yet the general assumption is that all components in the cloud service provider are trusted. With the advanced persistent threats currently faced by the military and intelligence community, it is unrealistic to assume complex information systems can remain trustworthy all the time. In this work, we present MUltiple level Security cloud with strong Hardware level Isolation (MUSHI), a novel framework that can provide hardware level isolation and protection to individual guest virtual machine (VM) execution. With MUSHI, a user can maintain confidentiality and integrity of her VM in a multicore environment even in the presence of malicious attacks from both within and outside the cloud infrastructure. © 2012 IEEE.
