In order that multicast routing characteristics are reflected under wireless environments, multicast routing metric is required for qualifying the multicast tree cost in wireless multi-hop mesh networks. We design a new multicast routing metric called the multicast-tree transmission ratio which quantifies the multicast tree cost, considering the link quality of wireless multicast channels as well as the wireless multicast advantage. The multicast-tree transmission ratio represents the product of the multicast transmission ratios of all nodes in the constructed multicast tree. This paper proposes a wireless multicast routing which constructs the multicast tree by maximizing the multicast-tree transmission ratio in wireless mesh networks. The proposed wireless multicast routing shows a higher delivery ratio and a lower average delay than the multicast routing minimizing the transmission count. In comparison with other multicast routings, simulation results show that the proposed multicast heuristic maximizing the multicast tree transmission ratio constructs a cost-effective multicast tree in terms of its delivery ratio, average delay, and required network resources.

This paper presents a power-efficient parallel cache coherence protocol for network-on-chip interconnection fabric on many core chips. With the increasing numbers of processor cores, a directory-based cache coherence protocol is more scalable and expected to be used for the future chip architectures. However, the characterization of directory-based protocol on a NoC platform shows that many cycles are used to perform command communications to ensure the data consistency before a data packet is transmitted or processed, which restricts the performance. In this paper, a parallel cache coherence protocol is designed to address the problem, which decouples the transmission of the data packets and command packets. Specifically, the parallel mechanism also provides an opportunity to reduce power consumption by using power-optimized wires. A formal speedup model has been established to estimate the performance of this approach. Simulation experiments show significant performance improvement and good system scalability: (1) the average latency reductions are 4.38%, 5.35%, 8.53% and 11.25% for 16, 32, 64, and 128-cores, respectively;(2) the numbers of the L2 cache accesses are greatly reduced;(3) the proposed protocol improves the system performance with up to 18.6%;and (4) the average power savings are 5.66%, 8.14%, 10.73%, and 13.23% for 16, 32, 64 and 128-cores, respectively. © 2011 IEEE.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a food allergy-associated disease characterized by esophageal eosinophilia and associated inflammation. EoE has become increasingly common in industrialized countries. However, current management strategies, such as treatment with swallowed steroids and dietary restrictions, are nonspecific or negatively impact the quality of life of EoE patients. In addition, use of more specific therapies that target immunoglobulin E (IgE) and interleukin (IL)-5 have been largely unsuccessful in ameliorating EoE. Thus, there is an urgent need to identify novel, specific immunological pathways that underlie the pathogenesis of EoE that could be targeted to treat this disease. Recently, a genome-wide association study identified that EoE is associated with a gain-of-function polymorphism in the gene that encodes thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP). TSLP is an IL-7 family member cytokine that promotes allergic inflammation by eliciting T helper type 2 cytokine responses, IgE production, and the expansion of a distinct population of basophils . However, whether TSLP directly promotes allergic inflammation in the esophagus and the mechanisms by which TSLP might contribute to the pathogenesis of EoE remain unknown. Here, we describe a new murine model of experimental EoE-like disease that was used to investigate the role of TSLP in allergic inflammation of the esophagus. Murine experimental EoE-like disease developed independently of IgE but was dependent on TSLP-elicited basophils. Critically, therapeutic antibody-mediated neutralization of TSLP or depletion of basophil populations ameliorated established EoE-like disease in mice. Finally, elevated TSLP levels and exaggerated basophil responses were observed in esophageal biopsies from EoE patients, and a gain-of-function polymorphism in TSLP correlated with increased basophil responses in patients with EoE. Since the first success of satellite laser communication experiments, their developments and researches have been much studied as a new satellite communication technology. From those experimental results, it is known that an instantaneous degradation of received optical power and link disconnection occur due to air turbulence or tracking error in the satellite-to-ground laser transmission. Therefore, forward error correction (FEC) is needed to achieve a high-quality transmission and the application of low-density parity check (LDPC) code for the satellite laser communication has been proposed. However, further application of land mobile communication techniques for achieving higher capacity is not fully discussed. One of the candidates of this application for more efficient satellite laser communication is a multi-hop transmission, which can be applied for geostationary satellite (GEO)-to-ground or deep space-to-ground links. Therefore, we propose a multi-relay cooperative LDPC transmission scheme for satellite laser communications to obtain an improved transmission quality with lower decoding complexity. This paper compares the efficiency of on-off Keying (OOK) modulation formats non-return-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) in both electrical and optical chromatic dispersion compensation. While In electrical compensator feed forward-decision feedback equalizer (FFE-DFE) method was applied, Dispersion Compensation Fiber (DCF) was chosen to evaluate the effect of modulation format on them. Transmission distance, subsequently are varied in both systems with mentioned compensation systems to evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) regarding to mentioned modulation techniques.

A passive image steganalysis method is proposed to universally detect spatial-domain steganography schemes. It is shown to have better performance than universal steganalyzers known to be powerful in spatial domain, including the WFLogSv and the WAM methods. This level of accuracy is the result of improving the WFLogSv steganalyzer by considering a more comprehensive relationship between the singular values of each image block and the linear correlation of the rows and the columns. That is, instead of the closeness of the lower singular values to zero, the energy distribution of the singular values is investigated. An innovative measure is proposed for this investigation, which is inspired from arithmetic mean-geometric mean inequality. Experimental results confirm the supremacy of the proposed steganalysis scheme over its counterparts.

A passive universal image steganalysis method is proposed that is shown to be of higher detection accuracy than existing truly blind steganalysis methods including Farid's and the WAM. This is achieved by improving some weaknesses of Farid's steganalysis scheme in feature extraction, that is, instead of deriving an over-determined equation system for each sub band of the wavelet decomposition, the sub bands are divided into overlapping blocks and an over-determined equation system is constructed for each block. To guarantee the existence of finite answers, the over-determined equation systems are solved in a way different from Farid's by using Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse concept. Further improvement to the performance is achieved by adding diagonal directions and increasing the number of moments. The comparative evaluations confirm the superiority of the proposed method over prevalent blind steganalysis schemes. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper a planar inductor based resonant circuit is designed for zero-current switching (ZCS) buck converter. The electromagnetic behavior of the design is analyzed by finite element (FE) methods for EMI interactions. A high frequency model for conducted EMI in the resonant circuit is obtained. To suppress the conducted EMI in the circuit, a method based on the resonant circuit impedance control is proposed. All the results are compared to conventional circuits and improvement in responses were observed and verified through simulation and laboratory experimentation.

In this paper, the development of finite element-based phase variable model of three-phase wound rotor induction machine, in the presence of saturation and leakage inductances, is presented. The cross and mutual flux saturations are taken into account through the evaluation of inductances at different saturation levels. The leakage inductance was calculated from the suppression of evaluated inductances by respective flux and stored magnetic energies. In this model, the inductances are rotor position dependent. The simulation results show acceptable accuracy as compared to the full FE model but at a faster computation speed and acceptable memory requirements. These computational advantages make it possible for detailed simulation and for the creation of hardware in loop integrated drive simulations and development procedures.

Model-based approaches to the inter-turn fault diagnosis of electrical machinery cover three main categories: fault modeling, feature extraction, and classification. In this paper, the modeling of a PM generator with the internal permanent short circuit fault under speed variation is presented. For this purpose, the geometrical dimensions, winding arrangement, material, and phase resistance of a typical PM machine are designed. The designed values are used to create a physics-based phase variable model of the PM generator. The Physics-based phase variable model of the machine is created using the back emf's and inductances obtained from a nonlinear transient FE analysis of the machine. The permanent fault is modeled as a parallel resistance with some turns in one of the phases. The physics-based model of the machine includes information about the fault location and the number of turns which are shorted. The Physics- based phase variable generator model is then placed in a network consisting of a rectifier, dc bus, DC/AC converter, and a balanced AC load. The effects of variation in the number of shorted-turns, fault resistance, and speed on the voltages terminals of generator were studied. The simulated results show promising information for the identification of inter-turn faults and their classification for the diagnostic studies of a variable speed wind PM machine.
