As an emerging portable service platform, OSGi is now taking a more and more important role in Ubiquitous Computing environment. As a module management framework, OSGi provides the functions of dynamic loading and unloading software modules at runtime. But its use is limited because it is centralized and single programming language supported. In this paper we present LIR-OSGi, an extended framework of OSGi, which is designed to add the distribution and programming language independence to OSGi. Meanwhile it is easy to use for developers because of the transparence of service invocation and automation of distribution. Not like OSGi which can be applied only on the Java platform, LIR-OSGi makes programs which may be written in different programming languages be able to call each other transparently so that it can be applied in many different platforms such as DotNet Framework and so on. This brings much convenience to the program development in a distributed and heterogeneous environment.

In this paper, we investigate a cooperative system consisting of one source-destination pair equipped with single antenna and L relays equipped with M antennas as wireless access points. We propose a new relay selection scheme for this system based on partial relay selection, where the best relay is selected according to the instantaneous and one-hop channel state information (CSI). We use maximal ratio combining (MRC) and maximal ratio transmitting (MRT) at relays to obtain the maximal achievable received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Close-form expressions for the outage probability and symbol error rate (SER) are derived. High SNR analysis is tightly approximated to explicitly characterize the diversity order and array gain. Monte Carlo simulations verify our analytical results. Results show that the diversity order increases with the antenna numbers at the selected relay according to M. For partial relay selection, two available relays are enough to get the array gain, and impacts of relay locations are also discussed in this paper.

In this study, a new type of trigonometric neural network is presented by adding frequency and phase to trigonometric activation functions. The proposed trigonometric neural network has more flexibility in comparison with conventional trigonometric neural networks and even other types of neural networks. Due to the low convergence rate and high posibility of trapping in a local minimum of backpropagation algorithm, Extended Kalman Filter algorithm is used to train the neural network's parameters which they appear in a nonlinear form. The Simulation of the suggested neural network based on the prediction of Mackey-Glass time series and identification of a nonlinear dynamic ystem reveals the efficiency of the proposed network. To show the efficiency of this method, the results are compared with the results of the others.

This paper develops a systematic procedure of designing global power system stabilizers (GPSSs) based on collocated control to enhance the damping during interarea oscillations. The availability of remote signals from phasor measurement units (PMUs) enables the wide-area control in large scale systems. The closed loop eigenvalues are excluded from a region of the complex plane by the collocated control algorithm guaranteeing that low frequency modes must be damped. The optimum locations for GPSSs were selected using controllability. The damping performance of a 16-machine, 68-bus study system reinforced with GPSSs is examined in the frequency and time domains. The simulation results show that the control scheme is able to damp out interarea oscillations following possible disturbances.

In this study, a new type of training the adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is presented by applying different types of the Differential Evolution branches. The TSK-type consequent part is a linear model of exogenous inputs. The consequent part parameters are learned by a gradient descent algorithm. The antecedent fuzzy sets are learned by basic differential evolution (DE/rand/1/bin) and then with some modifications in it. This method is applied to identification of the nonlinear dynamic system, prediction of the chaotic signal under both noise-free and noisy conditions and simulation of the two-dimensional function. Instead of DE/rand/1/bin, this paper suggests the complex type (DE/current-to-best/1+1/bin & DE/rand/1/bin) on predicting of Mackey-glass time series and identification of a nonlinear dynamic system revealing the efficiency of proposed structure. Finally, the method is compared with pure ANFIS to show the efficiency of this method.

From field-scale measurements to global climate simulations and remote sensing, the growing body of very large and long time series Earth science data are increasingly difficult to analyze, visualize, and interpret. Data mining, information theoretic, and machine learning techniques—such as cluster analysis, singular value decomposition, block entropy, Fourier and wavelet analysis, phase-space reconstruction, and artificial neural networks—are being applied to problems of segmentation, feature extraction, change detection, model-data comparison, and model validation. The size and complexity of Earth science data exceed the limits of most analysis tools and the capacities of desktop computers. New scalable analysis and visualization tools, running on parallel cluster computers and supercomputers, are required to analyze data of this magnitude. This workshop will demonstrate how data mining techniques are applied in the Earth sciences and describe innovative computer science methods that support analysis and discovery in the Earth sciences.

In this paper, we propose a method to predict the outcome of Bevacizumab therapy on Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) tumors. The method uses diffusion anisotropy indices (DAI) and spatial information to predict the treatment response of each tumor voxel. These DAIs are Fractional Anisotropy, Mean Diffusivity, Relative Anisotropy, and Volume Ratio, extracted from Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data before treatment. The spatial information is considered as the distance of each tumor voxel from the tumor center, extracted from pre-treatment post-contrast T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance Images (pc-T1-MRI). DAIs and spatial information of each tumor voxel are considered as feature vector. DTI and pc-T1-MRI are gathered before and after the treatment of seven GBM patients. First, DAIs of all brain voxels and the distance of each tumor voxel from the tumor center are calculated. Second, the method registers pre-treatment DAI maps and post-treatment pc-T1-MRI to pre-treatment pc-T1-MRI. Next, the tumor is segmented using thresholding technique from pc-T1-MRI. Then, Gd-enhanced voxels of the pre- and post-treatment pc-T1-MRI are compared to label the feature vectors. Three classifiers were evaluated, including Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Artificial Neural network. Classification results show a preference for K-Nearest Neighbor based on well-established performance measures.

Climate change is an issue of growing economic, social, and political concern. Continued rise in the average temperatures of the Earth could lead to drastic climate change or an increased frequency of extreme events, which would negatively affect agriculture, population, and global health. One way of studying the dynamics of the Earth's changing climate is by attempting to identify regions that exhibit similar climatic behavior in terms of long-term variability. Climate networks have emerged as a strong analytics framework for both descriptive analysis and predictive modeling of the emergent phenomena. Previously, the networks were constructed using only one measure of similarity, namely the (linear) Pearson cross correlation, and were then clustered using a community detection algorithm. However, nonlinear dependencies are known to exist in climate, which begs the question whether more complex correlation measures are able to capture any such relationships. In this paper, we present a systematic study of different univariate measures of similarity and compare how each affects both the network structure as well as the predictive power of the clusters.

In this paper, a valid frequency range of throat signal analyses is presented. Compare to speech signals, the throat signals have many differences in the amount of information. In this context, targeting on throat signals to find valid frequency range is one of the most important analyses for the development of new breed of feature extraction algorithm. In this respect, using analysis similarity of throat signals feature distribution and correlation analysis of throat signals in the frequency domain, the frequency range can be found with effective and quick response time to be applied to a voice command recognition system using neck-microphone. As a result, the proposed frequency range is from 200Hz (center frequency) to 2001Hz (center frequency). For the neck-microphone voice command system using the proposed frequency range, a significant reduction in time complexity of 25% can be achieved without any loss in recognition rate.

The survivability of network is of vital importance with respect to the normal operation of information infrastructure. The current research works in the area of network survivability generally aimed at the definitions and quantifications of specific survivability attributes for distinct network objects. Unfortunately, there is a lack of research concerning how to model, measure and analyze the survivability of network in a consistent manner, and it is helpful to the unification of network survivability measurement and the promotion of related research works in the area of network survivability. Furthermore, the requirements for network survivability measurement are variable among different application domains. Therefore, a flexible mechanism to support the customizable measurement of network survivability is needed. In this paper, we propose a unified framework for network survivability measurement which is extensible and customizable. The customization method of network survivability measurement model and the process of network survivability measurement are analyzed in detail. The analysis result shows the generality and practicability of the framework. © 2010 IEEE.
