This paper proposes power-optimized and bit-error-ratio (BER) minimized cooperative relaying strategies for multi-hop wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Due to the limited power and hardware resource in sensor nodes, much attention has been paid to the minimization of energy consumption and low bit-error in designing WSN protocols. We identify the challenges in the design of cooperative relaying schemes for WSNs, which leaverage the capability to achieve lower BER and power-consumption. Results from the modeling and simulations show that our novel cooperative relaying strategies enable sensor stations to facilitate energy-efficient and robust cooperative communications.

We present here a report on a new performance evaluation system for biometric systems, which is secure, automatic and remote. This system will provide developers in biometrics to progress in their works, avoiding problems with data protection policies related to testing, but without compromising the privacy of testing subjects. Biometric testing needs personal data to be recorded and used. Therefore in order to test their prototypes, researchers have to waste a lot of time and money for buying or creating testing databases. The solution described here offers the developers a secure and remote system which is available at all times, and which concentrates all private data in a secured centralized server. Also, as current standards, including standard APIs, are used, efforts needed by developers to use the system will be minimized, lowering also the overhead costs for testing purposes. The system is described by block diagrams as well as flowcharts.

The paper describes the design and implementation of Qplus Smartphone Edition based on embedded Linux. Existing Smartphone platforms entailed royalty expenses and had customization difficulties due to the closure of their source codes. The Qplus Smartphone Edition requires no royalty because it is based on the embedded Linux. And, it supports key navigation functionality such as moving between folders or running applications with key-only operations. It also provides more user friendly environment through screen interfaces and indicators similar to those of the cellular phones.

We propose a system that can record driving events and detect unsafe driving behaviors. Three sensors, an engine control unit (ECU) reader, a 3-axis accelerometer, and a camera are used, in which they represent the car, the passenger, and the driverpsilas perspective. Our system combines data from these three sensors with a fuzzy inference system to identify an event of hazardous driving. The output of the system is the driving risk level ranging from 1 to 3, where 1 is the safest. The output of the system was verified by comparison with a questionnaire from three passengers in a test run experiment.

In this paper, a class of hybrid impulsive systems with time delays and stochastic effects are considered. We obtain some criteria on the global exponential stability in mean square for the impulsive stochastic delayed systems. To do this, differential inequalities and ℒ-operator inequalities are developed. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Fractional-order transfer functions can characterize complex nonlinear dynamics with many fewer parameters than integer-order functions. This paper addresses the use of a polymer-electrolyte transistor (PET) for use in implementating fractional-order algorithms for signal processing.
