The Farmer model is a basic model of the farming methodology that loads the component defined in the aspect-object from the PICR into the distributed object after analyzing the real world entity in various aspects and defining the aspect elements as the Aspect-Object. This model is a model that formalizes the concept of downloading the componentware from the PICR to the distributed entity node type that describes the abstract object, the aspect node type that describes this object, the link type that shows the relativity between the entity and the aspect, and the attribute type that shows the characteristics of the entity. In this paper, the platform independent TMN agents are designed by the diagram of the Farmer model.

In this paper, we present a framework for managing ATM customer networks using WWW and CORBA technologies. The WWW technology may provide network management operators with platform independence, location independence, friendly and/or consistent management behavior as well as secure management operations. The main problems in a Web-based network management system may include limited management capabilities of HTTP operations and lack of supporting mechanisms for trap or event notifications. These problems are, in this paper, solved by the integration of Java and CORBA technologies. We extend the current Web technology which is being used for transferring various information on Internet to those which can be used to transfer management requests and replies as well as event notifications. A Web browser is used as a universal user interface for monitoring and controlling the activities of the ATM customer networks. We have developed an integrated customer network management system which can manage SNMP-enabled or CMIP-enabled network devices and provide ATM CNM services. In particular, we applied the CORBA technology to accommodate several management protocols such as SNMP, CMIP and other management protocols. Through the CORBA IDL-to-Java mapping, complex management operations as well as event notifications are supported without modification of the current WWW systems.

In this paper we propose a real-time communication scheme that can be used in general point-to-point real-time multicomputer systems with wormhole switching. Real-time communication should satisfy the two requirements of predictability and priority handling. Since traditional wormhole switching does not support priority handling which is essential in real-time computing, flit-level preemption is adopted in our wormhole switching. Also, we develop an algorithm to determine the message transmission delay upper bound to predict worst-case message delay. Simulation results show that the delay upper bounds calculated using the proposed algorithm are very close to actual average message transmission delays for messages with high priorities.

Electrophoretic analyses of acid extracts from mature sperm of newt, Cynops pyrrhogaster, on acid/urea/Triton X-100 polyacrylamide gel showed the exclusive occurrence of sperm-specific nuclear basic proteins (SBPs), which moved faster than somatic histones on the gel. These SBPs were eluted separately by reversed phase-high-performance liquid chromatography as two large peaks and a few small peaks. Of these, only the small peaks disappeared with treatment of the acid extracts with alkaline phosphatase before they were injected into the column, so that there were only two distinct components: NP1 and NP2. Determination of amino acid sequences by the Edman method as well as by sequencing of cDNA for both components indicated that each protein consisted of 43 (NP1) or 48 (NP2) amino acid residues, rich in arginine residues (53.5% in NP1; 47.9% in NP2), forming the clusters. They had molecular masses of 5,386 Da (NP1) and 5,748 Da (NP2), respectively. Northern blot analysis using cDNAs as probes indicated that mRNAs for both NP1 and NP2 occurred not in primary spermatocytes but in round spermatids. In situ hybridization analyses using antisense RNA for NP1 as a probe clearly showed the first appearance of NP1 mRNA at the late stage of round spermatid. Mol. Reprod. We design and implement the internetworking system between the ATM network and PSTN, which provides telephone services between the clients of the ATM network and subscribers of the PSTN. The internetworking system consists of the PSTN I/F module, signaling processing module, voice sampling module, voice regeneration module, transmission module, and ATM I/F module. The PSTN I/F module and ATM I/F module are implemented by using the existing commercial hardware products. However, the other 4 modules are implemented for the WIN95 environments by software. The test environment was also implemented and it was found that the internetworking system operates without problems.

In order to generate local addresses for an array section A(l:h:s) with block-cyclic distribution, an efficient compiling method is required. In this paper, two local address generation methods for the block-cyclic distribution are presented. One is a simple local address generation method that is modified from the virtual-block scheme. The other is a linear-time /spl Delta/M table construction method. The array elements of A(l:h:s) to be accessed at run-time build up a family of lines. By using the equation of the lines, a /spl Delta/M table can be generated in O(k) time. Experimental results show that a simple local address generation method has poor performance but a linear-time /spl Delta/M table generation method is faster than other algorithms in /spl Delta/M table generation time and access time for 10,000 array elements.

In packet-switched networks, queueing of packets at the switches can result when multiple connections share the same physical link. To accommodate a large number of connections, a switch can employ link-scheduling algorithms to prioritize the transmission of the queued packets. Due to the high-speed links and small packet sizes, a hardware solution is needed for the priority queue in order to make the link schedulers effective. But for good performance, the switch should also support a large number of priority levels (P) and be able to buffer a large number of packets (N). So a hardware priority queue design must be both fast and scalable (with respect to N and P) in order to be implemented effectively. In this paper we first compare four existing hardware priority queue architectures, and identify scalability limitations on implementing these existing architectures for large N and P. Based on our findings, we propose two new priority queue architectures, and evaluate them using simulation results from Verilog HDL and Epoch implementations.

This paper targets engineers and practitioners who want a simple procedure to compute the mean performance measures of the Batch Markovian Arrival process (BMAP/G/1) queueing system when the parameter matrices order is very low. We develop a set of system equations and derive the vector generating function of the queue length. Starting from the generating function, we propose a spectral approach that can be understandable to those who have basic knowledge of M/G/1 queues and eigenvalue algebra. ©2003 by North Atlantic Science Publishing Company.

He completed his bachelor of science degree in aeropace and ocean engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985 and his master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland in 1990. Mr. Dirlik recently completed a master of science program in applied physics at The Johns Hopins University and currently works in the Radar Cross Section and Target Physics Branch of the Signatures Directorate at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Corderoke Division. He has worked on Navy low observable programs since 1990. Stephen Hambric:is a research associate at the Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B. S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his D. Sc. in mechnical engineering from the George Washington University. He has worked on several computer aided multidiscikplinary design and optimization projects over the years including an automated propeller design system and a structural acoustic optimization capability. Dr. Shpour Azarm:is currently working as an associate professor with the Design and Manufacturing Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of maryland at College Park. Dr Azarm's expertise is in the areas of optimization-based designed and concurrent design and optimization of multidisciplinary systems. He was a consultant at Black & Decker Corporation (summer 1996) and worked as a Navy senior summer faculty fellow (summer 1995) and a NASA summer faculty fellow (summer 1994). A prototype concurrent engineering tool has been developed for the preliminary design of composite topside structures for modern navy warships. This tool, named GELS for the Concurrent engineering of Layered Structures, provides designers with an immediate assessment of the impacts of their decisions on several disciplines which are important to the performance of a modern naval topside structure, including electromagnetic interference effects (EMI), radar cross section (RCS), structural integrity, cost, and weight. Preliminary analysis modules in each of these disciplines are integrated to operate from a common set of design variables and a common materials database. Performance in each discipline and an overall fitness function for the concept are then evaluated. A graphical user interface (GUI) is used to define requirements and to display the results from the technical analysis modules. Optimization techniques, including feasible sequential quadratic programming (FSQP) and exhaustive search are used to modify the design variables to satisfy all requirements simultaneously. The development of this tool, the technical modules, and their integration are discussed noting the decisions and compromises required to develop and integrate the modules into a prototype conceptual design tool.
