Semantic communication is envisioned as a potential communication paradigm enabled by artificial intelligence and is promising to break the Shannon limit for future 6G networks. This paradigm benefits unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to conserve communication resources and minimize latency by only transmitting task-relevant semantic information. However, resource allocation in the multiple collaborative UAV scenarios remains unexplored, particularly regarding multi-modal semantic communication. To tackle this challenge, this paper investigates a semantic-aware intelligent resource allocation method for multi-UAV-assisted semantic communication networks in the UAV image-sensing task-oriented scenario. A multi-modal semantic communication framework with multi-UAV relay collaboration is developed. At the semantic level, a novel quality of experience (QoE) and the transmission cost model are introduced, based on which a semantic-aware resource allocation problem is formulated, aiming to maximize QoE while minimizing the transmission cost by jointly optimizing the UAV trajectory, the spectrum bandwidth, the transmit power and the number of the transmitted semantic symbols. To deal with optimization challenges involving hybrid variables and coordination among UAVs, a multi-UAV hybrid decision-controlled deep reinforcement learning (DRL) scheme is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared with the benchmark schemes in achieving a good balance between the QoE and the transmission cost. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

This paper considers the problem of monitoring and adaptively estimating an environmental field, such as temperature or salinity, using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV moves in the field and persistently measures environmental scalars and its position in its local coordinate frame. The environmental scalars are approximately linearly distributed over the region of interest, and an adaptive estimator is designed to estimate the gradient. By orthogonal decomposition of the velocity of the AUV, a linear time-varying system is equivalently constructed, and the sufficient conditions on the motion of the AUV are established, under which the global exponential stability of the estimation error system is rigorously proved. Furthermore, an estimate of the exponential convergence rate is given, and a reference trajectory that maximizes the estimate of the convergence rate is obtained for the AUV to track. Numerical examples verify the stability and efficiency of the system.

A Hybrid Blockchain-Based Identity Authentication Scheme for Mobile Crowd Sensing

With the continuous innovation and popularization of mobile smart devices, the application of Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) has been widely studied. However, the existing centralized MCS applications that use servers for task publishing and data collection have common problems such as a single point of failure and privacy protection. Based on this, we proposes a hybrid blockchain-based identity authentication scheme for MCS named HBIA, which uses blockchain technology to solve the single point failure problem of MCS. HBIA builds a cluster structure based on factors such as geographical location and balance, and uses this to build a hybrid blockchain, with the cluster head node and the node within the cluster authenticating on the public chain and the private chain respectively, and the use of Zero-knowledge proof(ZKP) to ensure the identity privacy of participants, thus balancing the contradiction between blockchain transparency and participant identity privacy. In addition, HBIA uses zero-knowledge succinct non-interactive argument of knowledge(zk-SNARKs) technology to implement off-chain computing and on-chain verification, further reducing the workload of the blockchain. Finally, the HBIA scheme was tested on the Ethereum public test network Ropsten, and the test results showed that the identity authentication scheme proposed in this paper has advantages in execution time and throughput. © 2022, The Authors. *** evidence from human studies has revealed the adverse impact of ambient fine particles(PM_(2.5))on health outcomes related to metabolic disorders and distant *** exposure to ambient PM_(2.5)leads to kidney impairment remains *** rapid air quality improvement driven by the clean air actions in China since 2013 provides an opportunity for a quasiexperiment to investigate the beneficial effect of PM_(2.5)reduction on kidney *** on two repeated nationwide surveys of the same population of 5115 adults in 2011 and 2015,we conducted a difference-indifference *** in long-term exposure to ambient PM_(2.5)were associated with changes in kidney function biomarkers,including estimated glomerular filtration rate by serum creatinine(GFRscr)or cystatin C(GFRcys),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),and uric acid(UA).*** a 10μg/m^(3)reduction in PM_(2.5),a significant improvement was observed for multiple kidney functional biomarkers,including GFRscr,BUN and UA,with a change of 0.42(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.06,0.78)mL/min/1.73m^(2),-0.38(-0.64,-0.12)mg/dL,and-0.06(-0.12,-0.00)mg/dL,respectively.A lower socioeconomic status,indicated by rural residence or low educational level,enhanced the adverse effect of PM_(2.5)on kidney *** results support a significant nephrotoxicity of PM_(2.5)based on multiple serum biomarkers and indicate a beneficial effect of improved air quality on kidney function.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) classification has recently reached its performance bottleneck. Multimodal data fusion is emerging as a promising approach to overcome this bottleneck by providing rich complementary information from the supplementary modality (X-modality). However, achieving comprehensive cross-modal interaction and fusion that can be generalized across different sensing modalities is challenging due to the disparity in imaging sensors, resolution, and content of different modalities. In this study, we propose a Local-to-Global Cross-modal Attention-aware Fusion (LoGoCAF) framework for HSI-X classification that jointly considers efficiency, accuracy, and generalizability. LoGoCAF adopts a pixel-to-pixel two-branch semantic segmentation architecture to learn information from HSI and X modalities. The pipeline of LoGoCAF consists of a local-to-global encoder and a lightweight multilayer perceptron (MLP) decoder. In the encoder, convolutions are used to encode local and high-resolution fine details in shallow layers, while transformers are used to integrate global and low-resolution coarse features in deeper layers. The MLP decoder aggregates information from the encoder for feature fusion and prediction. In particular, two cross-modality modules, the feature enhancement module (FEM) and the feature interaction and fusion module (FIFM), are introduced in each encoder stage. The FEM is used to enhance complementary information by combining the feature from the other modality across direction-aware, position-sensitive, and channel-wise dimensions. With the enhanced features, the FIFM is designed to promote cross-modality information interaction and fusion for the final semantic prediction. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our LoGoCAF achieves superior performance and generalizes well on various multimodal fusion and classification tasks. The code will be made publicly available. Provably Convergent Federated Trilevel Learning

Trilevel learning, also called trilevel optimization (TLO), has been recognized as a powerful modelling tool for hierarchical decision process and widely applied in many machine learning applications, such as robust neural architecture search, hyperparameter optimization, and domain adaptation. Tackling TLO problems has presented a great challenge due to their nested decision-making structure. In addition, existing works on TLO face the following key challenges: 1) they all focus on the non-distributed setting, which may lead to privacy breach;2) they do not offer any non-asymptotic convergence analysis which characterizes how fast an algorithm converges. To address the aforementioned challenges, this paper proposes an asynchronous federated trilevel optimization method to solve TLO problems. The proposed method utilizes µ-cuts to construct a hyper-polyhedral approximation for the TLO problem and solve it in an asynchronous manner. We demonstrate that the proposed µ-cuts are applicable to not only convex functions but also a wide range of non-convex functions that meet the µ-weakly convex assumption. Furthermore, we theoretically analyze the non-asymptotic convergence rate for the proposed method by showing its iteration complexity to obtain ϵ-stationary point is upper bounded by (Formula Presented). Extensive experiments on real-world datasets have been conducted to elucidate the superiority of the proposed method, e.g., it has a faster convergence rate with a maximum acceleration of approximately 80%. One of the big challenges of current electronics is the design and implementation of hardware neural networks that perform fast and energy-efficient machine learning. Spintronics is a promising catalyst for this field with the capabilities of nanosecond operation and compatibility with existing microelectronics. Considering large-scale, viable neuromorphic systems however, variability of device properties is a serious concern. In this paper, we show an autonomously operating circuit that performs hardware-aware machine learning utilizing probabilistic neurons built with stochastic magnetic tunnel junctions. We show that in situ learning of weights and biases in a Boltzmann machine can counter device-to-device variations and learn the probability distribution of meaningful operations such as a full adder. This scalable autonomously operating learning circuit using spintronics-based neurons could be especially of interest for standalone artificial-intelligence devices capable of fast and efficient learning at the edge.
